PSA when floating the river

Just a PSA from a near miss on the river. There are people fly fishing where y’all are floating. If you are going to go behind a person fly fishing and the bank PLEASE make sure we know you’re there. Don’t assume we see you. I almost got a young girl with a fly while casting because I didn’t know they were there. I checked over both shoulders and the raft was at the imperfect place and speed that it was in my blind spot. When the girls all shrieked I about jumped out of my skin.

Im in no hurry to cast. I wait for groups to pass, talk to people. When they say “sorry we’re in your fishing spot” I’m like “hey I’m in your floating spot. It’s everyone’s river and this was my first near miss in 3 seasons of fishing around floaters. I would have felt awful if I hit anyone with my rod, and worse if I hooked someone. I can’t speak for ALL fly anglers, but if you let me know you’re there, I’ll wait, let you pass, and then resume fishing. I’d rather miss the fish of my life than accidentally hurt someone.

Edit: to include they were inside a rod length. I’m NOT saying that you shouldn’t be floating, or you should wait for me, navigate around me, or anticipate if I’m going to cast or not. ALL I am saying is a “hey we’re coming up behind you” is better for everyone.

Long shot, but here it goes. Boise river, in town, soft hackle fly tips please.

Doing trout spey on the Boise river in town (iykyk) and looking at putting a Big Y order of soft hackles in. Checked my shop and they don’t have much as most people fishing are running nymphs. Any tips at what I should be looking at putting on the order?

Can a person get in trouble for refusing field sobriety tests and simply request a breathalyzer?

So I have ADHD and routinely come up with realistic hypothetical situations and then obsess on them.

So I’m a year sober but let’s say that I’m DDing for some friends. I’m hanging out at the bar with them, someone bumps me and spills a beer on me. We leave at bar close, I drop them off and on my way home, I change lanes without a turn signal, or drift slightly over because I’m opening a bottle of water, or any other minor traffic infraction. The officer following me lights me up, I pull over, they obviously smell the beer on me. So they have PC for the stop and likely an alcohol evaluation. I’ve heard enough people say something along the lines of “I couldn’t pass that test sober” or “it’s just additional evidence”, and let’s face it, I’m not gonna nail the FST and they just be like “well you’re good to go”, I’m still gonna get a breathalyzer.

Long story short, title. I’m probably tired and at the limit of people-ing and just wanna get home as quickly as legally possible.

Edit: having ADHD is only relevant in the context of “random shower/3am thoughts”. I’m not implying that ADHD has any bearing on my ability to drive or pass the SFST.

Edit 2: the situation is “I’m going to need you to step out to do some tests” I say “I don’t want to do the tests, I’m sober, on no medication, I will GLADLY submit to a breathalyzer. Someone spilled beer on me and that is the odor you’re smelling.”

Which do you think is more important?

So I got into rockhounding to be an inexpensive hobby. Ha! Joke on me. Went to a maker space today and used a saw for cutting for the first time and a cabbing machine and made my second cabochon in two days. Rock shop has both available for nominal fees but is 45 minutes away and with gas prices the way they are and my schedule it’s not feasible. I’m going to get both eventually.

I’m leaning towards buying a 6” cabking, and get a saw later as I’ve already found cabbing to be super relaxing and I could spend hours doing that versus cutting at home and then having to go to the store where I get a free hour then $5/hr (still seems like a decent price). Store also has 8” cabbers so I would just use those on an as needed basis as I’ve read that the 6” is more versatile and considerably cheaper.

Any advice for me?

Protein supplement question

Looking at starting to eat easy light breakfast things such as overnight oats. Would like to add some protein to it. I’m NOT going to the gym currently. What are some good vanilla and chocolate protein powders I can add? What should I be looking at? Preferably lower sugar as I have honey, real maple syrup, and agave syrup for sweetness. I’m an absolute novice to healthier eating and currently don’t eat breakfast as I don’t like cooking in the mornings. Coffee is an essential but the most effort I want which is why overnight oats is/are appealing since I can make it the night before, wake up, grab and eat.

Person at work has HORRIBLE breath.

So I have a coworker I have to work fairly close with who has smoker+coffee+poor hygiene/rotting corpse bathing in sewage breath. I’ve always practiced the “if they can’t fix it in 30 seconds don’t say anything” rule, but it’s BAD. They were talking to me and I was actively trying not to gag. We work in food production, and no mints or gum is allowed on the floor. Several people have brought it up to me, and I also have a horrible sense of smell, and if I can smell it, it’s bad; so there’s that and I know it’s not a “just me noticing it” thing.

Do I say anything? Bring it up with management?

Dumb question but how do you prepare your rocks?

So I have some broken up agates and petrified wood that I got on some rockhounding trips. How do you prepare it for going into the tumbler? Obviously, they need to be broken up into an appropriate size, but beyond that? I’ve been looking at videos and most look pretty good going in, one video even had a guy pre-shaping and polishing a bit on a cabking before tumbling which to a novice like myself seems to be unnecessary.

Not obvious gear items

What are some not obvious gear things or game changing gear items that make life easier for y’all?

Last weekend I was out with a group hunting petrified wood. We were onto a agatized (is that the right word? Idk?) tree trunk running into the side of the hill. Another guy and I are getting at it with shovels making slow progress and the leader of the group comes over with a Finn Hoe and moves a crap load of dirt fast. The thing is part pick, part scoop, part hoe on an axe handle. By being able to swing it down, and the little bit of contour of the axe handle (they also have a textured coating on the handle itself) it moves a lot of dirt very efficiently. They also allow you to easily pull dirt for backfilling purposes. If you don’t have one personally or in your group, this is something you need to buy. There is a mining supply company out of Idaho that sells them for $75. Not sure offhand if I’m allowed to post links. I’m not affiliated with them, but it’s in the first few hits on a google search.
