Happy Birthday America-- Molly McIntire May Not Have Been the American Girl George Washington Wanted But She Was (Probably) the One He Needed
Since yesterday was the 250th birthday of America (and coincidentally the same day I met a self-styled Warlock at the grocery store but I kind of wish I hadn't, where do you go from there, once you reach such heights?) I figured it was time to answer the question I've seen on everyone's minds this year--would Founding Father George Washington have emotionally connected with Molly McIntire, one of the original three dolls launched by The Pleasant Company?
As a middle class white millennial woman if there's two things I love it's astrology and being toxic. If there's three, you can add American Girl dolls to the list. So obviously I feel qualified to take on this question that has burdened society for so long.
Now, unfortunately while the dolls all have official birthdays (obviously), they do not have birth times, so we can only look at how the doll would impact the person on the chart. Frankly, I think that makes sense because what is a doll if not an empty vessel with which to fill and project our own hopes, fears, dreams, and in my case as a child, overly complicated murder-mysteries-at-talent-shows onto. Since this is very serious research, I do feel I have to flag my methodology.
Molly McIntire was also born in a fictional Illinois town. However, I found two sources that say it was based on Evanston, Illinois-- a very real town if you listen to old Chicago legend and/or look at a map-- so her location has been listed there. This is important because Mars changes signs on her birthday. We're going with a generalized high-noon chart for her, so by that logic, Mars has changed signs.
Washington's chart has an AA Rodden rating.
Here's the chart:
Now, the first thing that stands out. Washington is a Taurus rising, with chart ruler Venus in Pisces 11H. This is in mutual reception with 6H Jupiter in Libra. Both Washington, and Dolly Molly have the same placements. They even have Jupes in retrograde in Libra.
6H is historically the house of open enemies, daily drudgery, toil, servitude, and slavery. Typically with a retrograde benefic it's less operative, however, it's in mutual reception with a direct, well placed Venus who is chart ruler. I think this is a mitigating factor, and most likely makes the 6H less of a burden, and more of a strength. (Obviously we have hindsight to see that yes, Washington was able to leverage this placement and overcome the Tories. We also know that he engaged in the practice of literal slavery, but frankly I'm too dumb to take that on so we're going to leave it there, in the dirt, where it belongs.)
I very much like the interplay between the 6 and the 11 houses-- it shows a community mindset that is rooted in service. Aka-- Dolly Molly would reinforce to Washington that there is no greater calling in life than to serve one's community.
Then you look at Washington's North Node in Sag 8H, answering to that Jupiter in 6H (routed through Pisces 11H). That tells us that Washington's path was one intrinsically tied to other people's assets, and that since he has the ruler of the 8th place in the 6th place, it indicates Washington dies abroad-- and he does. Since he's successful in his campaign, the United States is formed. Now what role would Molly Dolly play in this?
Her North Node is in Washington's 10th, along with Saturn in domicile. Since Washington is a day chart, that's not a bad thing. His own Saturn is debilitated in 12H, answering to an in-domicile Mars in 7H. Dolly Molly could stabilize this dispositorship, and remind him that his private structure ultimately will have a public display (10H) and that the ideas born from his relationship to people that may be fostered in a hidden environment will eventually be highly visible and seen-- that it's what he'll ultimately be known for. She would temper his more severe side. What a gal! (Her 12H Mercury would also help him sort, name, and understand these thoughts and feelings. She would essentially act as his cipher tool-- as all good dolls do.)
Now let's talk about Dolly Molly's intense cluster at the end of Aries and beginning of Taurus. I think she would give him courage-- if she can get through her own family's hardship, war, and uncertainty, then he too could pull through from difficult situations and lead with stability. She would heal him because through her own shortcomings (temper) he'd learn forgiveness and self-actualization. I base this on the combust, debilitated Mars and Sun in Taurus 1H. Since Washington's own Mars is in domicile 7H, he'd be able to see his own shortcomings through Dolly Molly. Plus, both transiting planets are basically on top of his Chiron.
Finally, we must look towards Dolly Molly's moon and South Node in Washington's 4H. Look at Washington's natal moon condition. It's tired. It has the knowledge but perhaps not the energy-- it's in the southern declination, where the moon is least happy, and is in the beginning painful transition of rebirth into a new moon. Dolly Molly's moon is also uncomfortable, as it's close to the southern node, however, it's gaining light/energy. Being in the 4th house, it can again, help him understand 4th house themes-- family, legacy, lands, and what ties us to the land. For a General in the Continental Army, that is an excellent emotional tool to leverage as you fight the Red Coats. Given that Washington's own moon answered to Saturn via Aries 12H and Scorpio 7H, Dolly Molly's moon activates his 4H Leo, tying to his Jupiter/Venus axis. Essentially allowing him to tap into his benefic structure. All this through a plucky midwestern gal, just trying to get through her own wartime trauma.
For all these reasons, I do think America's First President would emotionally connect with OG American Girl Molly McIntire. I bet he'd love her various outfits, too.
