For the people who use dating apps

I’m kind of old-fashioned, but I’m still open to using dating apps. I don’t like the idea of dating multiple people at the same time. If things are going well with one person, I focus on them only. However, I realize that not everyone thinks the way I do, and they think it’s okay to go out with different people everyday. How do you guys handle dating apps?

Upward likes

I’m a woman. I downloaded the “Christian” dating app Upward the other day and I supposedly already have over 200+ likes, yet I have only matched with 1 person. What’s up with that? Are the likes fake? I don’t think I’m that picky when it comes to liking people either, but I guess the people I like don’t like me back, lol.

I can’t stop watching it

I’m a woman, I was exposed to p0rn from a very young age. Sometimes I think I’m done with watching it, but the temptation always comes back. I KNOW it’s wrong, but my flesh seems to defeat my spirit. I know this is bad. I literally feel guilty while watching, but I can’t bring myself to stop. Please help. I know it’s wrong and I know I need to stop. Sometimes I feel like I don’t even deserve forgiveness for this since I already know it’s bad.

I think I disobeyed God

After I got fired from my previous job, I was unemployed for 2.5 months. During that period I was doing well mentally, but obviously not financially. I needed a source of income. I interviewed for my current job in March, and started working here in April. Ever since April, I’ve been severely depressed. It hit me a week after working at this place. I’ve had really terrible and obsessive thoughts that don’t go away. I don’t think I should have taken this job. I tried to be okay, but I just can’t. I can’t help but feel like God didn’t want me here.

Is what we do abusive?

Hi everyone! I want to start by acknowledging that I entered this field without much knowledge about the history of ABA. Recently, I’ve come across videos and discussions from autistic individuals and advocates who describe ABA as abusive. Some of the criticisms focus on the idea that ABA treats autistic people like animals by rewarding certain behaviors while discouraging others.

I can understand why certain practices are viewed as harmful, such as trying to eliminate harmless stimming, using physical restraint unnecessarily, or ignoring a child’s needs and distress. However, I struggle with understanding how teaching meaningful skills and reducing behaviors that negatively impact a person’s safety, independence, or quality of life would be considered abusive.

I’m also trying to better understand the difference between compliance-based and assent-based ABA. I know many clinics describe themselves as assent-based, but I’m unsure how this applies in situations where a client engages in escape behavior during a task demand. For example, if a client refuses a task, is following through with the demand automatically considered compliance-based? Should we allow the client to completely avoid the task, or is it appropriate to provide a break, modify the demand, and then reintroduce it?

I’m asking this because I want to make sure I understand these concepts correctly and provide ethical, respectful care. I’m open to learning from different perspectives and would appreciate any insight or resources.

OCD impacting my job

Hi everyone. I’ve been in this field for nearly 2 years. My problems didn’t start affecting me until I started working at my current clinic (3 months ago). I want to clarify that I haven’t been professionally diagnosed with OCD, but I do have a strong suspicion on it based on what multiple people have told me, including crisis counselors. The subtype of OCD that affects me a lot in this field is moral OCD to be specific. I find myself reporting every little incident and constantly second guessing myself because I am terrified of doing something unethical/inappropriate/unprofessional and violating the RBT code of ethics… it’s so exhausting. I find myself full of anxiety before every session. I know being this cautious might make someone think I’m a good RBT, but I’m actually not. I’m scared that I’m hindering my clients’ progress because of how unsure and hesitant I am. After every session I just keep obsessing over every mistake I made. I just don’t know how much longer I can keep going like this. Some incidents in particular have made me feel a horrible person. Should I stay in this field? I’ve only been RBT certified for 1 week, so maybe it’s too soon to quit?

Incident reports

Does your company take incident reports very seriously? I feel like I annoy the leadership team whenever I bring up something that happened with a client just for them to tell me an incident report is not necessary. It’s part of the RBT ethics code to not cover up incidents, so I’m scared to accidentally leave something out. Am I doing too much?

Should I be concerned?

I work in a clinic and I am beginning to feel concerned about the actions of a male RBT. First, he turned off the AAC device of my client who was using the device to stim. He said it was not “functional communication” and that he shouldn’t be clicking random buttons. I’ve recently seen this RBT grab clients by their upper arms during transitions. It didn’t seem forceful (couldn’t really tell), but I think it’s unnecessary. Those particular clients don’t even need their hands held to transition. Maybe I’m just uncomfortable with his level of physical prompting… maybe I’m overthinking?

He does have a lot more experience than I do, so I’m not sure if he would be receptive to any feedback from me. Am I overreacting, or should I be concerned and talk to a supervisor?

ASMR needs to disappear already

Tell me why I’m watching a YouTube video that is completely unrelated to ASMR, and out of nowhere the creator of the video says “okay quick ASMR chip break” and proceeds to loudly crunch on some chips. Why just why!!?!!?
