So my teenage son has a 2007 toyota corolla. We bought this car back in October thinking it would be a decent starter car. When we checked it out, there was no rustiness, fluid leaks that I could see, no loud noises, clunking, etc. This is the work we've put into it so far which has cost about $2k. I took it to the mechanic today and it needed new front rotors and brake pads. He said there's a front strut leak, right rear shocks leak, and it needs new spark plugs and struts which would total another $3000. We originally paid $5000 for the car. Is it worth putting another $3000 into this or should we just get rid of it? We don't have a lot of money and I feel like this car has been a huge money pit so far. I'm just wondering if with all these repairs, will get my son through his next 4 years of college. I have no idea what to do with this car. I don't want it breaking down all the time and costing us thousands every time we take it to the shop.
