Waldorf Astoria Seychelles - Trip Review: Nice Addition

Waldorf Astoria Platte Island Seychelles, just got back from 6 nights stay.

We stayed on hawksbill garden villa. Unfortunately it was really windy when we were there, so wasn’t able to do any snorkeling or water activities at all. We stayed at villa 4, on the south end of the island, close to the sandbank.

Our beach had lots of the seagrass, but we are expecting that coming this island. Some people might find it off putting but personally it added to the charm of the island. The seagrass are the reason for the abundance of sea life of the island.

Most of the development are in land, they had to do it this way to conserve the beach.

The island is a year round nesting ground for sea turtles. You can see abundance of wild sea life when you walk or bike around. It is swarmed with sand crab, hermit crab, rays, baby sharks and turtles to name the fews.

You learn to enjoy biking with tiny crabs poking from the trails. They also do have a tortoise enclosure where they had 7 endangered aldebara giant tortoises, which they are planning to bring more ! Those gentle giants are definitely a great addition to the island amazing ecosystem.

The villa itself is the star of the island. Other than breakfast, it does felt like you’re alone on the island. Most guests do end up squating on their villa. Each villa does come with it own plunge pool. Most villas are identical in layout, except for the bigger grand villa. They all come in a standard living room, bed room and bathroom. The room design and layout was very functional. The theme of tortoise shells, coconut and turquoise blue can be seen everywhere through out the design of the villas and common spaces. There are around 50 villas on the island, but we mostly seen probably 20-30 guests throughout our stay. Good mix of couples and young families.

Food can be tiresome, especially with having only 3 restaurants on the property, it can get repetitive on a longer stay. Breakfast is made to order of 15 dishes or so items you can order as much as you want. We tried pretty much all of them by the third day. Although the reef fish dishes was definitely amazing, we had fresh caught grouper two times for dinner. Definitely must order when you’re there. You can get it either at La Perle or Maison des Epices. You do have to pre-order it. Food is pricey but not as eye watering as Maldives level. Keep in mind, prices on menu is inclusive of 10% service charge and 15% tax, even with in villa dining. Expect $200-$300 dinner for a couple, sharing one appy, two entree and one cocktail each. We skipped desserts. They do grow organic vegetables and fruits on the island, which they use it in all the dishes. Moulin, a set menu only restaurant, does their cooking based on what the chef sourced from the garden that week. They also do delicious musk melon juices for breakfast !

Staff was definitely amazing and hospitable, with 4:1 staff guests ratio, most of them would know you by the second day.

Definitely do not skip the Moutya dance by the Seychellois’ staff, it comes with a cocktails and bites complements of the manager. They do provide snorkeling gears and reef shoes that you can keep in the villa. It is a coral island, hence the sands are a bit on the rougher side.

Overall it’s an excellent stay. We did this after a week safari trip from Kenya, it was nice way to wrap it up. It does require a bit of logistics to travel to Platte, we had to stay one night in Mahe as they only do one transfer per day. Depending on your arrival and departure from Mahe, you might need to do the same. We do wish we had more times to visit other island like Praslin and La Digue, as they would probably be a better representation of the Seychelles postcard pictures, but we felt lucky to be able to experience Platte Island. It is one of the unique additions to Waldorf Astoria portfolio.

Which city completely blew you away on vacation?

Out of every city you’ve visited, which one gave you the vacation you still think about years later? What was it about the place that made the trip so memorable, whether it was the food, people, scenery, atmosphere, or just the overall experience?

I’d love to hear your best picks. And if you’ve got a favorite photo from the trip, drop it too 😊

Credit Cards with Highest Fuel Savings

Fuels expenses can add up to quite a lot and credit cards can offer decent savings.

I personally use the ICICI HPCL one but still not convinced with it.

Which is your choice for fuel expenses?

What place made you stop and think, “How is this even real?”

I’m talking about those landscapes that look so amazing in person that photos barely do them justice.

For us it was Oeschinensee in Switzerland

Where did you see it, and what was it about the place that stuck with you the most?

Have you seen any celebrities during your travels? Who and which hotel?

I just saw Paul McCartney at the Mark hotel!

Wondering if anyone else had any cool celebrity sightings during their luxury stays.

What tourist attraction doesn’t get enough hype for what it actually is?

What’s a tourist spot you visited and walked away thinking, “That was AMAZING”?

I’m interested in the places that look amazing on travel lists and actually are or places you’ve discovered in your travels you’d only tell the special people in your life, like me.

What’s one attraction you think is seriously underrated?

Park Hyatt Kyoto – King Suite Garden View

Park Hyatt Kyoto – Review of our amazing stay!

Someone once said that if you could choose only one Park Hyatt to stay at from the entire Park Hyatt portfolio, it would have to be Park Hyatt Kyoto. Staying here during my Kyoto trip was already incredibly fortunate, and I felt even luckier when I managed to secure a Park Suite with Garden View.

Park Hyatt Kyoto has a truly unique design that beautifully blends Kyoto’s traditional architecture with the understated elegance and minimalist luxury that Park Hyatt is known for. The hotel is also exceptionally intimate, with just 70 guestrooms in total, including only 6 suites.

As for the hotel itself, I’ll let the photos below tell most of the story. But there are a few experiences that I think are absolutely worth trying:

  • The Bath House, featuring both hot and cold onsen-style soaking tubs.

  • The hotel’s spa services.

  • An evening at Bar Kohaku, which offers one of the most iconic views of Yasaka Pagoda.

  • The traditional Japanese breakfast at Kyoto Bistro. At $50 per person, it’s worth every penny—not only because the service feels like you’re flying First Class, but also because the breakfast is prepared by the Michelin-starred restaurant Kyoyamato.

The hotel is also home to Yasaka, its signature restaurant, as well as the Michelin-starred Kyoyamato. They’re both excellent but undeniably expensive, so I don’t think they’re must-dos. The Japanese breakfast, however, is something I highly recommend and wouldn’t skip.

What's one travel splurge you'll never regret spending money on?

Every trip has that one purchase that makes you think, "This is way more than I planned to spend," but somehow it ends up being one of your favorite memories.

For me, it was driving go-karts through the streets of Tokyo. It definitely wasn't cheap, but it had been on my bucket list for years, and the experience was even more fun than I expected. Looking back, I'd pay for it again without thinking twice.

What's the biggest travel splurge you've made that actually lived up to the price? Was it worth every cent, or do you wish you'd skipped it?

Review of our stays in Singapore and Bintant

Just wrapping up a long time dreamed up trip to Singapore and Bintan, Indonesia and thought I'd share:

Sheraton Towers in Singapore, we spent 3 nights here. Although a little further from Downtown this is probably one of the best possible locations in Singapore in my opinion. It's one the same block as the Newton MRT station it was super convenient to get anywhere. The Newton Hawker Centre was a 5 minute walk and the centre of Orchard Road was less than a 20 minute walk.

It's an older property and our room smelt a bit musty but they very kindly upgraded us to a pool access cabana room, there's less than 10 of these room types in this category so were very appreciative.

I highly recommend these rooms if you value pool time AND don't mind people being relatively speaking right out your door. If you want more privacy ask for a terrace room instead. The lounge at this hotel was phenomenal. Small but very tasty evening food selection and a very drinkable wines plus cocktails served free flow from 5:30 to 7:30. I enjoyed their taken on a Singapore sling.

We also spent 5 nights in a Pool Villa at the Four Points Bintan. Well this was pretty darn nice for a Four Points! Our 3000 sq foot villa was very nicely equipped with 1.5 baths. Soaker tub in a huge bathroom, 1 indoor and 1 outdoor shower and a very nice private pool. The ocean when we stayed was very warm and clear.

We spent 9 nights total in Singapore and still didn't do everything we wanted to do so we'll be back. Everyone told us we were crazy to spend so long there but we love to walk and did some epic hikes through the nature preserves!

Conrad Bengaluru - Stay Review

In summary, had a fantastic stay worth every rupee.

Though the check in had some issues, The Front Desk Manager went out of the way to make it right. Got upgraded to the Deluxe One Bedroom Suite which is Huge in size. The view of the lake outside is great and calm.

Issues happen, but if resolved and taken care of goes a long way to create the experience and something to remember.

Location - 5/5 Hotel Amenities - 5/5 Suite decor and comfort - 4.8/5 Hospitality - 4.8/5 Executive Lounge - 5/5 (needs more comfortable sofa based seating though) Fitness / Spa - 4.9/5

Overall - 5/5

Luxury Stay in Kyoto

We booked a Nijo Castle Suite that was absolutely incredible. The living space was massive and had an extra powder room.

The hotel and grounds are beautiful and I almost wish we spent more time enjoying the hotel rather than exploring Kyoto! The breakfast buffet was included and had plenty of options, both western and Japanese.

The hotel has an onsen that is coed and requires you to wear a bathing suit, so we opted to do a 90-minute private onsen in the morning. We felt it was well worth the extra expense. Because breakfast was included in our stay, they had it delivered to the onsen for free (only had to pay the in-room dining charge).

I know the Ritz gets a lot of love and is more centrally located, but this hotel was phenomenal and I would highly recommend it.

Which destination totally exceeded your expectations when it came to the food?

Some places have a reputation for being average at best when it comes to local cuisine, so you don't expect much before visiting. Then you get there, start trying the local dishes, and end up wondering why nobody talks about how good the food actually is.

For us that was Malaysia - amazing food scene.

What's a country or city that surprised you with its food in the best way? I'd love to hear the places that deserve way more recognition for their local cuisine.
