Looking to Build a Low-Cost DIY Iron Filter for Household Mains Water Supply in Bangladesh — Is It Possible, and if so, How?
Hi everyone,
I live in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Even in the city, the utility water supply contains a lot of iron. The water looks clear at first, but if it sits for a while, iron particles settle at the bottom.
We use filters for drinking water, but that still leaves untreated water coming through the taps used for brushing teeth, showering, washing, etc.
Commercial inline iron filters for the main water supply do exist, but they are expensive and often do not provide enough flow for a building with 15+ people.
So I am wondering: is it possible to build a low-cost DIY system that can remove most of the iron from the main water supply before it reaches the rooftop tank, using simple and affordable materials, even if the filtration is not perfect? I only need the iron gone.
