How Would a Superyacht Lose ALL Power?

Hi - I'm a writer and a total rookie when it comes to all things yacht! My story takes place on a superyacht where the ship experiences a blackout and loses comms, GPS, etc.

While there are obviously several things that could lead to an outage or a fault with the main switchboard, doesn't the emergency diesel generator automatically kick in? Therefore powering the emergency switchboard and restoring all comms, GPS, radios, etc? If so, this would create a plot hole in my story. So - my main question is:

Are there ever circumstances in which ships lose both the main and emergency switchboards?

If so - how does that happen? Or how could this happen?

At that point, I believe the main device you would have left in terms of rescue is your EPIRB, but perhaps there are additional rescue devices I'm not thinking of.

Thank you all for your answers, really appreciate it.

Groundbreaking HUT Realization

I have a theory as to why this season of HUT has gotten more hate than others in recent memory.

Sure, you could blame a lot of things - combos, salary caps, TOTS - but every year has flaws.

The reason for this year’s negative reaction is because everybody was already pissed off by the time they got to the lobby. Because each one of us had to:

Look at Matthew Tkachuk’s stupid face.

Hey fam,

I’ve been nicotine free for nearly 22 days. So, firstly - allow me to say let’s fucking go and* *congrats to everyone else who has also quit recently.

Despite the huge win, I could still use a bit of reassurance that my dopamine levels will return to normal soon. I am generally a very happy person - never been on anti-depressants or anything - but I haven’t been able to escape this dull, grey feeling that follows me everywhere I go. Everything feels boring and weirdly joyless right now.

Let me be clear - I am NOT tempted to go buy a vape or anything like that, and not even a little bit. My mind is very right in that regard. I am done with nicotine, in all shapes and sizes, for good. And I’m proud of that, truly. Fuck nicotine!

Long story short, I could use some reassurance from the Jedi Masters in this sub that things might have gotten better for you at the 1 month mark - the 3 month mark - or anything that gives me hope. Something to look forward to. Something to justify this empty feeling and reassure me that it’s only temporary.

Thank you very much in advance, and I fucking love this sub. Stronger together 💪

Hi - as you can see, I'm having some issues with a glare in my frame.

I included a photo of my setup, but it's a newly purchased backscatter macro lens in an adapter attached to the insta360 ace pro 2 underwater housing.

Does anybody know why I'm getting such a pronounced reflection of the underwater housing case? At first I thought it was because I was without a lens cover, so I ordered the older square lens guard, and even that didn't work.

Thank you thank you thank you!

And lastly - is there any way I can remove the vignette WITHOUT zooming in aka clarity zoom?

I recently purchased the ace pro 2, as well as the Backscatter macro and ultra wide lenses. Two Q’s:

Lens “Flip” System

I know GoPro has this, but is there anything comparable for insta360 that I can attach to my underwater housing? Something that would allow to switch between my lenses mid-dive without having to take them on and off?

Lighting

2 - Is a tray with lighting absolutely necessary for good macro shots? If so, what’s a good bang for my buck for lights?

Thank you!

Hi all - recently bought a 16 ft RGBIC strip for the purpose of uplighting a bedroom shelf. Like many have stated, it doesn’t produce a true warm white.

I am not here to complain - I’m simply looking for recommendations for alternative strips that I should look into, whether it’s Govee or a different brand.

I like the ability to put on colored lights, but the most important thing to me is a bright, warm white color that scream “sexy elegant bedroom” etc.

thank you!
