hi all!
making a big purchase (circa 20 thousand pounds, and has to be on one chunk). my credit limit ison my amex gold is currently 5k, and as I earn 30k a year I dont think I can get my credit limit up to this amount (?). are there any debit cards where I could earn points on the purchase? I am only aware so far of the Marriott and the IHG revolut but dont know if they work out to be worth it for this sum of money....
curious as a family member has a large sum invested - it is something anyone else has an eye on? not looking to invest in it myself ATM
hi all....
solo female traveller with little mandarin and am considering a stopover in Shanghai with china eastern - will be booking my own hotel. my flight lands in at 12pm and the potential connecting flight out would leave Pudong airport at 11am the next day. is this enough time for a layover and would you recommend for these times staying in the centre or near the airport.?
hi!
am looking at booking the 40k points redemption economy flight from DPS bali to London - would anyone be able to check what the taxes are for me? dont want to swap my amex points over until I know!
hi!!!
will be an mphil student at murray edwards from october. would love to get to know anyone starting at the college (or generally starting an mphil) before we all arrive!! happy to dm my insta or start a gc / join any that already exist :)
I know this probably gets posted every year and I know I'm lucky to have got into Cambridge in the first place!
I'm starting an MPhil this year and got allocated Murray Edwards.
Im feeling frustrated as when I applied I didn't really understand how the preference system worked. I'd barely spent any time in Cambridge, so I just put King's, Trinity and Clare because they were the colleges I'd heard of, and knew were in the city centre (I have disabilities).
Since I've visited Cambridge a few times and walked around a lot more of the central colleges, and I've realised I absolutely LOVE like Corpus Christi, Peterhouse and Jesus. I honestly wish I'd put those down instead.
I think what I'm struggling with is that Medwards feels a bit out of the way and slightly separate from the rest of Cambridge. I know everywhere is walkable/cyclable and people always say college doesn't matter after the first few weeks, but I can't help feeling like I'm missing out on part of the experience I'd imagined, especially as i’m living on the on site accommodation. From undergrad, the quality of the library really affects my ability to study- so a bit worried abt this too!
I also went to an all girls' school for seven years, so I think that's making me overthink being at a women's college. I know it's completely different, but I can't shake the worry that it'll feel a bit cliquey. Out of the women's colleges I think I'd probably have been much happier at Newnham, just because I preferred the location and the feel of it when I visited.
I'm quite sporty and was hoping to get involved in rowing and college sport, and Murray just seemed quite small and quiet when I went to the open day. That might be a completely unfair impression, but it's the one I've ended up with.
I've found myself wondering whether I should just reapply next year as I know there are no transfers. I’m also self funding with money I saved from an undergrad scholarship as I missed the scholarship deadline and feel uneasy about spending that amount on something i’m not 100 percent happy with.
Has anyone else felt like this before they started? Did you end up loving your college? And how do you stop being annoyed at yourself for essentially being silly with the preference list…
hi!!
just hoping for a little bit of advice or direction...
I graduated last summer with a first class politics degree from a top uk uni. im currently working in a public affairs graduate role in a top multinational company with exposure to strategy, RGM, commercial operations etc etc.... but would like to pivot into a more 'corporate' role (in mind of cost of living partly but also personal interest)!... am thinking consulting potentially would suit with my interests and what I have enjoyed exposure to.
I am unsure of what next steps to take - my role is one year fixed contract and I have an mphil offer to start at cambridge in October, on a course focused on finance / ai / tech in public policy. I also potentially have a job on a corporate placement scheme in New York.
I am unsure of whether to attempt to rotate through the cambridge degree, or whether to do a master in management type program which may be better for the rotation I am trying to make ? how common is it to take this kind of masters with 2 years of work exp as would be applying for 2027 entry...
any advice would be really appreciated... or if anyone knows any other forums that might be a better place to ask, do shout! thank you so much in advance :)
hi! im lying into Incheon at 11am and out at 12:30pm the next day. its my first time in Korea so would love to pop into Seoul.
the main ain thing I'm trying to figure out is where to stay - is it worth heading into Seoul and staying downtown, or does it make more sense to stay near the airport given I need to be back for midday the next day?
I'd love any recommendations on what to do/see/eat while I'm there. I've done a bit of research already but always good to hear from people who've actually been!
thanks!
hi!
would love to hear from anyone currently doing this course on your experience.
was also like to hear if anyone has managed to get a decent scholarship for this course, and what the profile of recipients may look like.
thanks!
hi!!
first time redeemer here so may be asking a silly q...
im flying from Osaka to London in a few weeks, and virgin has a flight available from Seoul to London which I have enough points to book. I was originally looking to fly Korean air into Seoul, with a 2 hour long layover (so not long enough to check and recheck bags etc) on a single ticket. the virgin website doesn't offer it from what I can see, but is it ever a possibility to do for example
if I contacted a ticket agent, is this something they would be able to help with? or is it not worth bothering for their time? ...
TIA!
