What’s the most British Amex experience you’ve had?

For me it’s still small independent shops looking mildly offended when you ask if they take Amex, followed immediately by a Pret, Tesco or random corner shop accepting it with absolutely no issue. The inconsistency still catches me off guard.

Can someone with a BA amex card refer someone for any card or just BA ones?

Going to get an amex gold because of the intro deal and asked my friends if anyone wanted to refer me. One has a BA Amex card but when I click on the link and look to view all cards it only shows the BA versions. Would there be any way to get the gold with his referral so he gets points or would it only work with BA cards?

New Companion Voucher Reward

Surely this is a worse deal, as it stands it sounds like it consumes your voucher for 25% back in avios?

Can’t downgrade my Amex gold card

I just called customer services because I want to downgrade my gold card, the representative said the best option was to move to the rewards card but then he went on to say that option isn’t showing up. I’ve had the card about 5 years now and I never really intended to keep paying for it after my first year but here we are!

The only alternative I was given was to upgrade to platinum (lol), so where do I go from here? I have 40,300 points - I guess I’d need to transfer them somewhere and then close my account? Where’s the best place to transfer them to? I was thinking BA but I’m in the process of buying a flat so not sure there will be much travel on the cards any time soon. Thanks so much for any help or advice :)

Am I about to make a huge mistake or a genius move?

Amex Gold offer ends Monday. 40k points for £5k spend in six months. My brain is saying yes. My wife is saying we do not need another credit card. Who has actually done this and was it worth the domestic argument?

Travel spend

I’m going to be spending £21k on holidays this year. What is the best way to take advantage of rewards on any Amex or any other cards to get the most bang for my buck.

£4k of that is with BA holidays, the other £17k with a travel agent.

No travel plans other than these 2 so not sure if a companion voucher will be worth it as I would have to pay a fee to use the card, and not build up enough Avios to cover a whole fare.

Note that I have had an Amex gold card last year. So not able to get any offers where you have not had an Amex in the last few years.

225k Points in Husband's Amex Account

I would appreciate it if anyone was able to help me figure out a way to use my husbands amex points.

After a long illness, my husband has moved into a care home for end-of-life care, and I have now realised that we have a significant amount of points saved that I don't know whether I can access.

I am the supplementary cardholder for the account and have access to his account as well as Power of Attorney over him. My question is, how can I use the points in the account? My initial approach would be to transfer the points across to Avios, Hilton or Marriott, but I am worried that in doing so, the points will then be on his account under his name, and hence I won't be able to use them.

I have had a look and think that I could possibly use them in Avios either through their household account system or by transferring the points from his BA account to mine.

It would mean a lot if someone could help me answer these questions. Thanks!

Transferring points to avios / airline miles after downgrading

Hi everyone,

I've had the Gold Rewards card since last November. I have around 60k points on it and I'm planning to convert it to Avios / airline miles at some point as I read that it's the best use of the points. I'm planning to downgrade to a free card this coming November as I don't want to pay the £195 pa fee. Would I still be able to convert to Avios / airline miles AFTER the downgrade? ie I don't have to book a flight before November?

List of all major places that don't accept AMEX?

Hi, I just got accepted for my first AMEX (still waiting for it to arrive). I've been reading online, and it looks like AMEX isn't accepted at a lot of places. Is there a list of major places that don't accept AMEX?

Amex gold Deliveroo benefit

With the changes to Deliveroo Plus gold subscription (£7.99/mo -> £4.99/mo, no more Deliveroo credit, no more time promise benefit), the Amex Deliveroo offer isn’t as interesting as it used to be. No more Amex credit on the monthly subscription and less benefits overall.

If you’re a Deliveroo plus gold subscriber, a good workaround would be to switch to Plus silver, (free if you have Amazon prime), to still enjoy no delivery fees and 2 Amex credits on orders monthly.

Non-resident founder, US LLC doing $10M+/yr — how do I get into AMEX Business?

Hey all, hoping someone here has been through a similar setup.

Quick context: I'm Italian, based in Dubai, running a US LLC that moves north of $10M a year across Mercury, Chase, Wise and Slash. No SSN, but I have an ITIN. Solid business, zero AMEX history — and frankly it's starting to feel ridiculous that I can't get a card from a company that should be falling over itself for spend like this.

I've started building a US credit file (Kikoff for now, adding Self and a secured card soon), but I know that's slow. What I'd really like is to get the AMEX relationship going now and let the personal credit catch up later.

A few things I'd love input on:

  1. Anyone here actually approved for AMEX Business as a non-resident with ITIN? Did you apply online, by phone, or open Business Checking first to warm up the relationship?
  2. Which Business card is realistically the easiest first approval when revenue is strong but personal credit is thin? Blue Business Plus? Business Gold? Something else?
  3. Worth trying to get a Business Relationship Manager on the phone before applying, or is that a waste of time at this stage?

If anyone has a referral they want to share, happy to use it — just DM. And if anyone has a direct line into AMEX or knows someone who can make a warm intro, I'm fine paying for the introduction. Otherwise even just data points would help a lot. Thanks.

Misled by Amex UK phone agents twice in 48 hours—now locked out of a 100k bonus. 10-year customer. What are my chances with a formal complaint?

Hey everyone, looking for some advice or insight from anyone who has dealt with the Amex UK executive complaints team. I've been a loyal Amex customer for 10 years, but the last 48 hours have been an absolute nightmare of misinformation.

Here is exactly what happened:

  1. Call 1: I currently hold an Amex Gold card. I called them to ask about transitioning to the Platinum. I specifically asked if an upgrade would get me the welcome bonus. The agent explicitly told me that yes, an upgrade was fine and I would get the welcome bonus. I didn't create or open the card during this call.
  2. Call 2: I then saw a referral link for a 100k points + £250 travel credit offer. I called Amex a second time specifically to confirm everything before doing anything. I asked if I could use this referral link instead. This second agent explicitly assured me that yes, it was completely fine to do it that way.
  3. The Trap: Based entirely on the confirmation from these two separate calls, the card application went through. But when I spoke to a rep today, they dropped a massive bombshell: both previous agents gave me completely false information. Standard upgrades don't get the welcome bonus, and because the card is now open, I am hit by the "Once in a Lifetime" rule—meaning I am completely locked out of using that 100k + £250 travel credit referral link.

I acted in 100% good faith and did my due diligence by calling twice to double-check the rules before the card was ever created. Now I'm stuck with a brand new Platinum card and completely locked out of the massive bonus I was promised I could get because of their staff's incompetence.

Switching from free BA card to paid

I currently use the free BA card for everyday spending and spending roughly £30,000 a year so am getting the companion voucher every year.

Why would I upgrade to the paid card?

Credit limit transfer

I have a high credit limit on my gold card of just over 20k but only a 2k limit on my Black BA card. I phoned to ask if I could transfer 10k of the limit to my BA card but was told I wasn’t eligible and to call again and request in 3 months.

Has anyone else requested similar and been successful?

BA Amex Premium

Anyone seen a better signup bonus around? Been meaning to move from Barclaycard premium over to amex premium for a while but the 30,000 signup bonus is pretty underwhelming.

Any ideas:
- where a better one might be available (sometimes there’s a better one hiding on the BA website or something)
- when a better bonus might appear generally.

No referral links please unless it’s getting me more points than the normal signup bonus.

Thanks

Is 30,000 Amex points enough to help at all flying to India on short notice?

I unexpectedly need to make a trip to India within the next two or three weeks. I have 30,000 points on the Gold Card (free one year trial). Is this enough to reduce the cost of a return flight from London to Delhi, and if so could you please advise me on the best way of redeeming them. Thank you.
