Lamenter Riever

To change up from painting flesh tearers I've decided to paint some other successor chapters. My first attempt is the most radically different scheme I could think of, the Lamenters.

What do you guys think? Have I done our cousins justice? Would you be okay playing against a mixed chapter unit so long as they are all Blood Angels successors in one way or another?

Sanguinary Guard alternatives

Didn't think the golden boys fit in with the ripping and tearing so here's my alternative.

The moulded blood angels symbols on the pauldron were a pain to shave off, and the kit seemed to have a lot less customisation than I remember the old kit having.

All things considered I'm happy with how they have come out

Reclusary Guard

Having picked up the BA combat patrol I had to work out what to do with the six sanguinary guard. The whole flashy golden looks didn't seem to work with flesh tearers so I decided they weren't sanguinary guard at all, but a personal bodyguard to my chaplain. What does everyone think?

Contrast Paints

As an old head recently returned to the hobby:

Contrast Paints are a total game changer. What used to take me a week takes me an afternoon. I no longer hate the colour red. They are literal liquid magic and I'm unsure who made a deal with the dark gods to create them, but thankyou!

Kitbashed Seth

Picked up the combat patrol this afternoon, a quick 10 minutes "look at the sprues for inspiration" turned into a 5 hour frenzied kitbash and paint marathon.

Needs some follow up work on the details but I've managed to put together a half decent Seth kitbash!

Armageddon box completed

It's taken a little while, but after a lot of experimentation I'm finally happy with the beginnings of my army.

Picking up the combat patrol this weekend to round out the host of ripping and tearing!

Transfers!

After many aborted free-hand attempts I had got my guys some transfers, I've never used them before and didn't know what I was doing in all honesty.

After a bit of experimenting here is the end result and I couldn't be happier, they looked unnatural just stuck on so a light Matt varnish and some weathering later and they have become part of the model!

One week in

One week of obsessive painting later and Armageddon is almost complete! It's been a great re-introduction to the hobby, and my skills have improved over the course of the box, from the quite sloppy tactical sgt (the first model I tackled) to the vanguard vets who's paint is still drying!

I plan to revisit all the models, touch them up where needed and come up with a consistent basing technique

Armageddon box set, what's next?

I have returned to the hobby after a long time out of it, as such I bought the new box.

Having happily assembled and half painted the marines as Flesh Tearers I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to my next purchases to fill out my army to 1500pts (if that's still even the default size for games?)

My initial thoughts are some assault intercessors or death company, but I'm so far behind the times I really don't know how things work anymore!

Pictures for interest :)

Returned to the hobby

After more than a decade away from the hobby I have picked up the Armageddon box, not exactly new but definitely out of practice! Any advice for improving my painting more than welcome
