Anyone moved to England to make use of the NHS?

I recently paid a few hundred quid to see a specialist doctor in London privately, because the surgery I'll probably need isn't available here in NI.

Privately, further investigations will likely cost a few grand, and if I end up needing surgery, likely about £20k.

The doctor in London said I could just get my GP to refer me to him on the NHS and there wouldn't be much of a wait.

But I spoke to my GP here and they said they can't refer me to specialists in England just like that, because it's NHS NI and everything's shit here basically. She said it would be a 5 year wait just to see a similar specialist here in NI (and I already know they can't even do the investigations or surgery here anyway).

If I was with NHS England, the whole thing would probably just take a few months or even weeks.

Pretty grim that I'm even having to consider this, but I'm wondering if I should just move to England for a while to make use of the NHS there. Or even just pay rent somewhere there so I can have an address there to use the NHS, but just stay here and go to the appointments in England.

Anyone had a similar experience?
