Reminder: there is an election today! Go vote!
Some districts (like the 8th) have a dual party primary. Most of Fairfax county (10th and 11th districts) is only a Republican primary. But in Virginia, any voter can choose to vote in any primary—you are not registered to a specific party. If you’re in a dual primary district you’ll choose which ballot you want to receive today.
It’s 7:15am and my precinct just saw its first voter. 🙁 Go visit your poll workers, we are lonely.
Whole Foods prepared foods bag—a cautionary tale
Picked up a Whole Foods prepared foods bag last night in Fairfax, Virginia (Fair Lakes) and it was very regrettable. It came with 4 items: an Italian sandwich, a turkey wrap, a cheese tray, and a deli container of chicken curry. Paid $10.99.
Sounds ok right? Well, the sandwich was clearly very very old and was prepared with a whole bunch of dressing on the sandwich instead of on the side (which is just a terrible way to make a sandwich that’s going to live in a plastic box for days.) So the dressing had utterly disintegrated the bottom bun—it was a soggy mess that we threw away. The lettuce also was spoiled from sitting in dressing. We did eat the top bun and meat/cheese but the top bun was stale and the whole thing was just not good from sitting far too long in dressing.
I didn’t try the turkey wrap but my family said it was similar, just waay too old and stale to be edible.
The chicken curry is fine.
The cheese tray had cubes of cheese, crackers, grapes, and 2 little brownies. About half the grapes are mushy and everything else is stale—again, these are items they should have put for 2 good to go days ago—they’re spoiled now and should be tossed.
I will not be getting this box again and honestly I don’t recommend buying they’re “50% off” stuff in store—it’s already past the date they should be selling it at all, based on my experience.

Why isn’t this in effect all the time?
Surely this pays for itself, why do the police only have limited windows during which they “target[] speeding, reckless driving, distracted driving, and other unsafe behaviors”?

The commonwealth hasn’t authorized fully autonomous vehicles but I guess Waymo thinks it’s happening.
How does the process work when the start date is ~18 months away?
My daughter just finished her junior year in college so she has another year to go. She accepted a job in fall of last year which requires a clearance and they interviewed a bunch of contacts for her in Dec/Jan. Since then, radio silence. Is that normal? It does seem like approving her now when it’s a full year before she can start would be odd but what is happening to her application? Does it just sit on someone’s desk until closer to her start date? Is there any point at which she should reach out if she hasn’t heard anything? She does still need to do a polygraph.
I’d love to also hear from anyone who was a college hire like this.
