Core Theory: MAD STOMP

With my series Frame Thoughts coming to an end, I've decided to start a new little thing I'm titling Core Theory. In these posts, I'd like to both share my own thoughts, and collect you guys' opinions, nitpicks and profanities on the various NPC presets of AC6. Is this an original idea? No, but what under the sun is?

And for part 1... who else could start us off? Who else but The Man?... okay it's mostly because I'm going lowest-highest in arena order, but still.

It's MAD STOMP: the AC of RaD's very own Dubiously-Vincible Rummy. Calling it an Armored Core — rather than a meth-head's design blueprint for a bipedal demolition vehicle — feels like a borderline lie by omission. It isn't particularly fast, it isn't tough enough to compensate for that speed, it has two weapons and the worst arms possible for one of them, and it has these huge Yowie feet yet somehow still looks top-heavy. So in short, tens across the board, the ace of aces, best thing ever built, RUMMY SWEEP

What are your thoughts on MAD STOMP? Love it? Hate it? Meh?

Frame Thoughts: 011 MELANDER (+the kitchen sink)

It's time for the penultimate; part 14 of r/armoredcore's most spontaneous series, Frame Thoughts: where I ask you folks — Michigan's bad falls — your thoughts on the various frames of AC6.

Today we have a popular one. Balam's contribution to the field of mecha melee and big bots bludgeoning the shit out of each other (and they're probably the only corp who wouldn't mind you using those exact words). It's the Toyota Hilux of Armored Cores, and is matched only in its utter lack of pretention by how fucking common it is; this frame could probably qualify as an invasive species on Rubicon.

That's right, it's the 011 MELANDER.

What are your thoughts on the MELANDER frame? Love it, hate it, meh, niches?

And as a bonus... holy fuck, there are a lot of these. Okay, as a bonus, what are your thoughts on its long list of alternate parts: the 012 MELANDER C3 frame, the Q22T BORNEMISSZA tank legs, and the 033M VERRILL head and tetrapod legs?

Frame Thoughts: EL-T-10 FIRMEZA

Alright Ravens, quit kicking Arquebus' shins for a second and come sit down, because it's time for part 13 of r/armoredcore's most soon-to-finish series, Frame Thoughts: where I ask you folks — the RLF's most inconsistent allies/enemies — your thoughts on the various frames of AC6.

Today is the other of Elcano's two offerings to AC frame design, and the third in the trifecta — alongside NACHTREIHER and ALBA — of mechs for those specific pilots who think 'safety' is a social construct, guidelines are punchlines, AP is a thing of fable and myth, and that speediness is next to godliness. It's described as possessing Elcano's "artistic, craftsman-like flair", and it's definitely got a look (whether that's a good or bad thing is really in the eye of the beholder).

That's right, it's the EL-T-10 FIRMEZA.

What are your thoughts on the FIRMEZA frame? Love it, hate it, meh, niches?

And as a bonus, what do you think of its alternative part: the EL-T-11 FORTALEZA tank legs?

Frame Thoughts: NACHTREIHER/E (+KASUAR/Z)

Pull up a chair — not that one, that's mine — because it's time for part 12 of r/armoredcore's easiest series, Frame Thoughts: where I ask you folks — Schneider's eternal financial security — your thoughts on the various frames of AC. We'll be coming up on the end of this little run soon, as by my count, there's only Firmeza, Melander and VP to do after this. Kind of a shame, if I'm honest. I've liked having a little series to do and see you guys chat about. But hey, let's have fun while it's still here (and maybe something else will come afterwards).

Today, we have the AC synonymous with speed... because that's its only goal, and that's what all its pilots are on. Its appearance suggests that its putting on a disguise to get into a reverse-joint exclusive party, and looking at it makes me think that if you knocked it over, it'd make a sound like an empty coke can hitting the ground. Remember how I said the BASHO frame probably requires a forklift certification to drive? Well I'm pretty sure you need an actual airline pilot's licence for this one.

That's right, it's the NACHTREIHER/E.

What are your thoughts on the NACHTREIHER frame? Love it, hate it, meh, niches?

And as a bonus, what are your thoughts on its two alternate parts: the KASUAR/Z head and reverse-joint legs?

Please Explain Chem Lasers To Me

First, I don't have YAML or any other Mechlab mod. On console.

One piece of kit I've never really understood in this game are chem lasers. On paper, they sound kinda cool: lasers that make much less heat, but require an ammo bin.

But in practice, I just... genuinely don't get them. In any Mech that can have chem lasers, it's never felt better compared to just having regular lasers and using the tonnage that would've gone into chem ammo — because the ammo is the same tonnage as heat sinks — for heat sinks instead. Which helps the whole Mech instead of just these specific weapons.

Can anybody explain chemical lasers to me, please? What situations are they better? I really don't get them.

Frame Thoughts: LAMMERGEIR

Pop a bottle and punch a friend, because it's time for part 11 of r/armoredcore's most contrived series, Frame Thoughts: where I ask you folks — Schneider's favourite Rubiconian dashcam video stars — your thoughts on the various frames of AC6.

Today, it's the Unarmoured Core. The prototype fighter jet with legs. If you want irrefutable proof that Schneider just well and truly do not give a fuck, take the fact that they choose, every day, to sell this set to people on the open market. Safety is not aerodynamic, and if you buy this frame second-hand, you're probably buying an AC with an own-pilot kill count.

That's right, it's the LAMMERGEIR.

What are your thoughts on the LAMMERGEIR frame? Love it, hate it, meh, niches?

Archer dying all the time?

I'm really starting to consider binning it. The Archer isn't a Mech I typically go for as my own (I like missiles, but not really full LRM boats), but I've figured it would work well as an ally Mech. And yet, every time — across multiple playthroughs — I give an AI lancemate an Archer (even the all-out LRM variants like the 2R), they consistently get torn to pieces and come home with the most damage.

Can someone please explain why this Mech in particular feels so death-prone in the AI's hands?

Did Chaos Reign change the mission spawns?

I started a new career run a while back, playing for the first time properly since Chaos Reign came out. One pattern I've started to notice, which I really don't know if it was there before and I just avoided it, is how tuned up the enemy weight feels?

I got a Garrison job (270 ton if that matters) where there was literally not a single enemy Mech lighter than Heavy. And in the same multi-mission, I got a raid where there was a Victor at two of the targets, and the final two (right next to each other) had a Marauder each. And I can't help but feel there's an oddly high number of Assault Mechs sometimes in missions around that same weight.

Is this new? Did Chaos Reign change stuff like this?

Jump jets upgrades?

As someone who never took these upgrades (as JJs used to blow and I've only played a little since Chaos Reign), I was curious if anyone has used the jump jet cantina upgrades (burn time, thrust and recharge). Are they good for jump-capable Mechs, or just a waste?

Any fans of the Victor?

As the title says. The Victor feels like the Assault Mech I see people disregard the most/say isn't all that good. I have limited experience with this Mech, but I'm wanting to try out new stuff on my current campaign run. So I was curious: any fans of the Victor?

Frame Thoughts: IA-C01 EPHEMERA

Well, whaddya know? It's part 8 of r/armoredcore's seventeenth most anticipated unofficial series, Frame Thoughts: where I ask you guys — Rummy's eternal anime rivals — your thoughts on the various frames of AC6.

Today is the RRI's baby. The frame that was literally never meant to be driven by a human being, but apparently can do so thanks to a so-called "development quirk". Which just gives me the mental image of 621 crammed half-standing into the "cockpit" like one of those shitty prototype airline seats, but I digress.

That's right, it's the IA-C01 EPHEMERA.

What are your thoughts on the EPHEMERA frame? Love it, hate it, meh, niches?

Frame Thoughts: MIND ALPHA

That's right, it's part 7 of Frame Thoughts, where I ask you folks — ALLMIND's most accounted variables — your thoughts on the various frames of AC6, especially if they're ones I don't hear much about (though we've kinda run out of those at this point) or am just curious about.

Today is our favourite AI's contribution to the field of big bots beating the ever-loving fuck out of each other, the MIND ALPHA set.

So what are your thoughts on this frame? Love it, hate it, meh, niches?

And as a bonus: what do you also think of its two alternate parts, the MIND BETA head and reverse-joint legs?

Hand Missile Launcher Appreciation Post

Used this thing for the first time recently, as I finally started trying out more explosive weapons I hadn't before. I've used it as a double trigger weapon, and as the offhand for something else, and either way? I really was surprised by how much work this thing does. Might be one of my favourites, no joke.

Frame Thoughts: HAL 826

It's time for part 6 of r/armoredcore's most mildly anticipated series, Frame Thoughts. Where I ask you guys — Carla's biggest business expenses — your thoughts on the various frames of AC6, especially those that I don't hear much about (though from this point forward, there aren't so many of those) or am just curious about.

Today is the HAL 826: the Rubicon Research Institute's final contribution to the delicate science of beating the living shit out of each other in big robots.

What are your thoughts on the HAL? Love it, hate it, meh, niches?

(I don’t think this needs a spoiler, as it's just a pic of the frame, but let me know if otherwise. Either way, there likely be spoilers in the replies)

Missile launchers: four, six or ten?

Exactly the title. For the standard Furlong missile launchers, do you like the four, six or ten cell? Folks seem to have opinions on these bloody things, and I'm playing a missile build at the moment, so I'm curious what you guys prefer.

Frame Thoughts: C-2000

It's time for part 5 of Frame Thoughts, where I ask you folks — Ayre's strongest soldiers — about the various frames of AC6. Especially if they're ones I don't hear much about, or am just curious about.

Today is the starting frame. The original. The bane of PCA helicopters, the preferred coffin of Walter's hounds, and possibly the most normal RaD has ever made. The C-2000.

And as a bonus, tell me what you think of its two alternate parts: the SPRING CHICKEN reverse-joint legs, and SHADE EYE head.

Generator and boosters for all-missile biped?

Decided to go through all 3 routes again (seriously, I don't know what it is about this game; I play most other things 3 times and I'd never want to pick it up again, but this sonofabitch keeps calling me back), and for my build this time around, I decided to take a crack at something similar to Carla's FULL COURSE, as I didn't really try explosives much before.

Long story short, I'm barely in chapter 2 and I've already evolved into a hell of a build: medium-heavy biped, two 2 four-cell launchers for arms, 2 ten-cells for the back, boost kick whenever possible. It is obscenely fun.

Which brings me to the question: what are the best set of boosters and generator for a build like this?

Frame Thoughts: XS-5000

Part 4 of Frame Thoughts, where I ask you folks — God's finest pilebunker enthusiasts — your thoughts on the various frames of AC6. Especially if they're ones I don't hear much about.

Today is a frame that I have seen called the FULL COURSE set, the MEAL set, or according to the wiki: the XS-5000. The personal frame of Carla, and another bit of proof that RaD parts are made by Dosers, for Dosers (see also the Sweet Sixteen, Delivery Boy, Double Trouble and the Strider).

So what are your opinions on the XS-5000 frame? Love it, hate it, meh, niches?

Frame Thoughts: VE-4A

Part 3 of Frame Thoughts, where I ask you guys — God's finest coral-heads — your opinions on frames that I feel like I don't see discussed much, or am just curious about.

Today is the only AC that wears bell-bottom jeans. The only one that looks like it's perpetually either smirking or glaring at you. The favourite frame of Sir Snail Arquebus Esq., the VE-4A.

And as a bonus, what do you also think about its two alternate parts: the VE-4B tank legs, and the VE-44B head?

Frame Thoughts: C-3000 WRECKER

After my post about the TIAN-QIANG frame the other day, I realised that there were some other part sets that I don't hear about, haven't used or am just curious about. So hey, might do a few more of these "Frame Thoughts" posts.

For today, I wanna know what people think about the C-3000 WRECKER frame, because this may be the only frame I've heard less about than TIAN-QIANG.

Love it, hate it, meh, niches?
