I Really Like Season One Korra

Even when Korra fans defend her against haters, I feel like they often say something along the lines of "yeah she sucked in season one but got way better," in my experience. But to be honest, I fully disagree. I don't think she sucked at any point. I still relate a lot to Korra in season one, and I don't think she was nearly as much an asshole as the fandom claims. While she definitely matured over the course of the show, Korra in season one was a little brash, but also incredibly sweet and well-intentioned.

A lot of her worst decisions in season one came from the fact that she had been isolated for the vast majority of her childhood, and felt like she wasn't allowed to be incredibly frightened in her first conflict as the avatar being against a man who could take away someone's bending with much ease, while being manipulated and taken advantage of Tarrlok for his ends.

But also, I really liked her confidence, and her desire to help others, and her drive for independence. I think it was really cool to see an Avatar who wanted to be the Avatar, who was super excited to be able to do what she had been trained to do her whole life, and to me it seemed like she wanted to be able to help people from the start. She made very brash decisions, but her desire for independence also felt extremely relatable, because she hadn't really ever been independent before, and it showed in the first few minutes of episode one that the White Lotus was watching her constantly.

Overall, I think she was always a really dynamic character with incredible depth and personality, including the season one version of her. Throughout the entire show I never felt like I was 'suffering' her presence, as her struggles and emotions always felt really real to me.

(And yeah, there was the whole thing with Mako, but TBH I found the show itself badly fumbled the writing on that relationship almost the whole way through, so I can't really blame Korra as the character so much for that.)

I Really Like Vaatu

Art by me! I’m new to Reddit, but I’ve been posting on Tumblr for a few years. Anyways, for whatever reason, when I first watched this show my brain latched into Vaatu and refused to let him go, so here’s a gijinka I did for him with colors pulled from a black hole! I mourn his season every day.

Life Cycle of the Radiance

Also hi everyone, I’m shadelorde! This is my first post on Reddit ever, but I’ve been on Tumblr for a few years. I really like drawing Hollow Knight and Silksong fanart, and general space-themed stuff.

Also, white dwarf comes after planetary nebulae, but I ran out of page space.
