B&B Towing hunting cars on Broad Canal Way (Kendall area)
Last week around noon I parked on Broad Canal Way. The sign says "15 minutes standing only" for a private road. I stepped away from my car for a minute, then a B&B Towing truck rushed in and hooked my car.
I was RIGHT THERE picking up my lunch. I ran back immediately, explaining that I'm only getting in to get my lunch. The driver refused to release my car unless I paid a $100 cash only "drop fee". Sadly, I rarely bring cash on me, let alone $100. I tried so hard to negotiate it down with all the cash I have left. Shout out to the gentlemen who let me Venmo him for some cash to end this nightmare...
Anyways, I sat in my car continue waiting for my lunch. I saw the same tow truck circling the block repeatedly, clearly waiting for anyone to step away from their car for even a moment. This is clearly hunting for cash.
A few days later, I spotted the same tow driver sitting in the Star Market parking lot at Twin City Plaza just waiting. Noticed that the lot also have B&B Towing signage. Guess what he's up to!
So... What I learned is to avoid parking on Broad Canal Way even for a moment. Remember to watch your surrounding for tow trucks. I saw some earlier post about the same pattern in Porter Square, Dunkin' lots,... I believe it's the same towing company.
Has anyone else been hit here? Is the cash-only demand even legal in Cambridge?
