Can I laser with a scar?

Hey everyone,

My doctor recommended me doing laser removal for hair in my face. I want to laser my chin but I have a scar there. Is it still possible to get laser sessions?

If not, what are other options? (please DONT say shaving or nair, that makes it worse)

Body Insecurities

I really wanna get laser done because I am so tired of shaving every week and the constant razor burns and I grown hairs. I also have PCOS so I am much hairier than a normal female.

I have a lot of butt acne + acne scars between my thighs due to the previous ingrown hairs and bumps. It’s all over my butt and thighs and this is the one thing that’s holding me back from booking my first laser appointment.

Along with that, I am on the bigger side. With stretch marks and cellulite, and this is another aspect that adds to my insecurities.

I can’t help but think that my technician will def be judging my body acne, scars and weight.

Male upper-arm laser hair removal: where should my transition zone be?

I’m a male getting laser hair removal on my upper arms. I want the transition into my natural lower-arm hair to look natural and masculine, not like a hard cutoff or obvious line.

I do not want to laser my whole arm. I want to keep my forearm hair because the rest of my body is hairy, and I do not think it would look natural on me to have no forearm hair. I’m lasering my back, shoulders, upper arms, and neck, but my chest, stomach, and legs will remain hairy. For context, I trimmed my forearms a few weeks ago, so the forearm hair in the photos is shorter than my natural baseline.

I’ve had two sessions so far, and the lower part of my upper arm, near the elbow, was treated lower than I would have preferred, especially on my right arm. Going forward, I’m trying to be very clear about where no future laser should happen and where the transition/fade zone should be.

In the photos, the red arrows point to a natural crease on the inner arm. I’m thinking of using that crease as the lowest boundary, meaning no additional laser below that point.

My questions:

  1. MAIN QUESTION: For the lower boundary, does the curved red line look more natural than the straight pink line?

  2. Above that boundary, how much room would you leave for the transition/fade zone, around 1 inch, 1.5 inches, 2 inches, or more?

  3. In the transition zone, would you do fewer treatments to gradually thin the hair? I understand that laser may not be able to create a predictable fade just by doing fewer sessions. I’m open to maintaining the transition zone with a trimmer if that would look more natural.

  4. If I use the curved red line as the lowest no-laser boundary, should the transition zone stay a consistent width above it, or should it vary? My concern is that if I follow the curve and keep a full 1.5-2 inch fade zone above it everywhere, the transition zone may climb too high by the time it reaches the outer arm.

I’d appreciate feedback from anyone who has had arm laser hair removal, works in laser hair removal, or has thoughts on what would look most natural. Even quick feedback on just one question would be really appreciated.

Advice for a first timer

I've never removed my hair before. The only thing I've done is trim it. I don't have any allergies. I searched on Google, but I also want to hear from someone who has actually gone through the process. Does it hurt? What happens during and after the hair removal? I'm just thinking about it right now.....I haven't made a decision yet.

Sharing my Braun IPL 5 Experience - Looking for advice/recs

This isn't a super in-depth post about my experience with the Braun Pro5, but I wanted to post this bc I see so much hype about the device. I bought a Braun Pro5 about a year ago and used it on my armpits, lower stomach, and bikini/brazilian area consistently for about three months. Then my device stopped flashing properly and I had to get it replaced. I was like, okay, cool, this is within the 100-day warranty. So I got it replaced. And then the replacement suddenly stopped flashing just after the 100-day window. Looking back, I absolutely should have gotten the 5-year warranty. That's on me. But also, the devices shouldn't just stop working after 3-4 months. It's not like I used them on large areas of my body, either.

As for my results: I would say I had about a 60% decrease in hair in my bikini/brazilian area, 80% in my armpits, and nearly 100% on my lower stomach. I'm basically back to square one now. I'm struggling again with my ingrowns, so I'd love any recs for IPL devices that will last. I also have some dark marks from digging out super deep ingrowns in my bikini area (ik that's bad but these were DEEP and left over from waxing; that's a whole other story lol) and I'm hoping that IPL could help with that. Honestly, rn I'm mostly concerned with the dark marks; I'm using tretinoin, topicals faded, benzoyl peroxide wash, and a salycilic acid toner. Sounds like a lot but my skin isn't irritated. Is there any way I can get these marks to fade within a couple months?

This post is a little all over the place, so thank you in advance for any and all advice!

Poor results after 7 Candela GentleMax Pro sessions. Is 8 J/cm² on a 24 mm spot size too low?

I have skin type II–III (but my bikini area is quite darker) and had about seven laser hair removal sessions on my full legs, bikini area, and underarms using the Candela GentleMax Pro. I stopped six months ago, and the hair has been growing back quickly.

My legs and underarms improved somewhat, but the results were much weaker than I expected. My bikini area still has very dark, coarse hair with almost no noticeable improvement.

After doing some research, I found that the clinic usually used 8 J/cm², which seems quite low. I went back today and asked why. The technician said they use the 24 mm spot size, which has a fluence range of 6–11 J/cm². I asked her to increase the fluence, so she used 10 J/cm² on my legs and underarms and tested 9 J/cm² on my bikini area. The test was quite painful, so she said we had to go back to 8 J/cm².

Is this normal, or are these settings too conservative? The clinic is very cheap, and I’m wondering if they’re keeping the fluence low so clients need more sessions.

is it actually long term?

Hi, I’ve already attended 2 laser hair removal sessions for my legs (diode laser) at a local beauty salon. The results have been amazing so far and I’n about to go to my 3rd session pretty soon. After the 2 sessions the hair got finer and is significantly less visible, I don’t really feel the need to shave it. Does this effect last long? I don’t want to make my legs fully bald so I was thinking about stopping after 3 sessions. Is there a chance for the hair to fully grow back thicker after while? I don’t want to go all in and get 10 sessions and have fully bare legs but I also don’t want those 3 sessions to go to waste lol

Laser hair removal

What should I be looking at before deciding on where to get laser hair removal? Are there certifications, etc I should be looking for to make sure they’re a reputable provider?

Looking 4 encouragement to continue laser hair removal

Hey guys I’m a 20M and i did 4 sessions (1 month apart each) of LHR for my whole body, I do see massive reduction and improvement and the hair literally doesn’t grow UNTIL a month passes and then everything return to normal. I talked to my doctor about it and she said it’s normal and i have to complete 6 sessions and then we will see if i should do up to 8 sessions overall and then do one session each two months. I’m really tired of going monthly and it’s draining my bank account since I’m still a student. What do you think?

Do I HAVE to be clean shaven before appointment?

I finished my 2nd treatment on my face, I’ve been shaving with barber trimmers instead of razors so that way I don’t have to bump up after every session but the lady doing my hair removal said that it’s better to use a razor before hair removal. The problem is if I use a razor instead of some trimmers I’ll be a bumpy mess for like the next 2-3 weeks (I’m black with curly hair so I’m extra prone to bumps). Is shaving with a razor a must?

Is this normal?

Its my second laser hair removal session, first one there was no issues
Second one, and after coming back home this is how my chest looks like
I put topical hydrocortisone cream, now it's noght and i feel it didnt improve, so i took a zyrtek pill and applied topical hydrocortisone cream again
What is it?
Is it concerning?
I am concerned of hyperpigmentation

Please ignore the red patch at the middle of my chest this is something older and is not a reaction to the laser

Anyone had their private area lasered? I have a question

Ok so I hate shaving down there. My hair is super thick and it always makes me UNBELIEVABLY itchy for the next couple of days once it starts growing out.

I’m getting it laser soon. Will the experience be tolerable for the next couple of days? Or is it going to feel the exact same as shaving

Im so nervous about it… especially because im traveling after a week after doing my first session… im scared it’ll ruin the trip

First session

Just had my first session, boy is it faster and less daunting than I thought. Also these were the settings, I basically felt nothing except the cold fan thing.

I got my stomach down done but they didn't do my perenium/gooch, is this normal or do I have to specify for that to be done?

xo thank you.
