Confusing expectations

PGY-1 IM resident on a notoriously busy service and I just need to vent.

Got slammed over the weekend. My list ended up being capped. After about 12 hours of drowning I finally had a moment to breathe and was chatting with my senior, he asked if I had plans for my off day. Casually mentioned that I would catch up on my PC in basket stuff before clinic later in the week. Then got scolded and told explicitly not to do that and my days off are my days off. So I went home that night, had my day off the next day, didn’t catch up on my in basket, and just enjoyed myself.

Got absolutely beat down the next day on service, got some more in basket stuff on top of it. Ended up pulling a 14 hour day. Afterwards, came home and tried to clear out my in basket as much as I could. Only had one message remaining when I passed out with my laptop on my bed. Next morning had clinic, and was promptly reamed out by my attending for not getting to that one patients message which was them freaking out that they didn’t have a refill for their SSRI (lack of refill not on me, but her prior pcp before they graduated), that has been sitting in my in basket for 3 days, today marked the 3rd day. Apologized and explained being on a busy service with long hours and how I was told to not work on my days off. To which I was then told that the expectation was that I respond to all in basket messages within 72 even if it falls on a day off.

This is all so annoying because this could’ve been avoided if I had just stuck with my original plan of working on my day off to play catch up. But I also have a habit of overworking myself and am trying hard to rein that in during residency. Also wish I had remembered to sort my in basket from oldest to newest, but I was running on 5 hours of sleep after a 14 hour shift and I know I was trying my best. Not upset with anyone other than myself. And frustrated that the expectation is that even my days off aren’t really mine :/

Orientation Blues

PGY-1 who just started orientation. I’m at my top choice and a T10 institution for my speciality. I was super happy to come here. But now that orientations started I just feel really out of place. Imposter syndrome definitely plays a role because I’m coming from a mid tier MD program and this is such a good program. But most of my “blues” are coming from the fact that half of my residency class already knows each other. Our total PGY-1 class is huge but feels so small. About 10-15 people all when to this institution for med school. And another big chunk are clusters of people coming from the same med schools. So the vibe inherently feels cliquey. And it’s just made me kind of sad. I’m definitely a social butterfly, and everyone’s nice but it’s a little intimidating trying to get to know people who have known each other for years. It just feels so awkward. Maybe I’m just extra sensitive because this is such a big life transition, and I’ve never felt like I’ve struggled to make friends. But man this kinda sucks :/

IM Intern Year Anki Decks

Starting residency in about 3 weeks, and have always been a big Anki user. Any good deck recommendations that’ll let me look less stupid on rounds? Or do we just use the same Anking decks from med school? 👀 open to any and all recs!

Mat Pilates studios in the area?

Hi! Moving to AA from Miami in a few days for work. Super excited to come back to Michigan (I’m originally from Southfield), and while I find Miami exhausting I would be lying if I said I wasn’t going to miss the workout scene here— there are just so many studios. I do heated mat Pilates about 2x a week and I’d love to find a studio in AA that offers mat classes (preferably heated) since I’m not really a reformer girl. Any recommendations are welcome!

Switch 2 Edition

Hi friends! I got a switch 2 as a graduation gift! I’ve been playing BOTW for the first time for the last few months. I’ve got 96 shrines 197 korok seeds and all 4 divine beasts. My goal is to get all 120 shrines then beat Ganon, I’ve got no interest in finding all 900 seeds (😭) so my question is: is buying the switch 2 edition at this point in the game worth it 👀 all advice welcome!

I’m on my first watch of the series. And I’m currently on the final episode of season 9. And I think Lexi is crazy boots 😭. I’m sure there’s lots of their little “relationship” we didn’t see. But she seems so incredibly toxic and her one sided beef with Ciara is so bizarre?? but maybe I’m missing something??? Idk how did you guys feel?
