Microtubes or Alpha/Omega?

Long story short.

I have a Warwick Thumb bass, and was VERY attracted to the versatility of very clean tone, the EQ shaper, compact size, power, cab simulation, compression etc.

I ordered the Alpha/Omega Darkglass amp head since (don’t laugh) AI suggested it as the best choice for Mudvayne and Tool, which were the choices I was really hoping to hit the most.

Did I make the right choice? Or should I ask to see if I can swap to the Microtubes or Microtubes X version?

I’m obviously very unfamiliar with the product and should have probably asked here first but….🤷🏻‍♂️

Edit: this is my FIRST huge upgrade out of an amp/combo too. I was just really tired of how it sounded and wanted something I could really have fun with.

Help! 😂😭

Experiences on Ritalin IR or LA? Trying to find something that works for me.

To preface:

I have been on ADD medications throughout my life in the past, and recently. Adderall XR has almost always been great for me...until lately.

I tried Vyvanse, it was great...until the crash in the evenings....made me feel really off/disconnected feeling. I would also have weird mini crashes through the day where I simply couldnt focus at all. I expect I was just not a good candidate for it.

Tried Adderall XR again....10mg went great....and then bumped to 20mg....and that just felt like such a massive jump for some crazy reason. My only issue with Adderall so far (coming back to it), is that it just makes my brain feel absolutely dumb after several days of consecutive use of it, which I dont recall happening in the past. Also, I kinda just dont feel super great either, almost like I have nausea.

Currently, I have been taking Modafinil as prescribed by my doctor for several weeks now, sort of as a means to kinda get some sort of stimulation, but without being super demanding on the body or cause insane crashes/brain confusion. Overall... its okay I guess, but no real help to ADD symptoms...I guess thanks doc for letting me have a shot at it.

All that is to say....Modafinil is okay.....thats just it. Okay. Doesn't help emotional regulation, doesn't help motivation in the slightest bit. So while you might feel awake, and like you SHOULD be motivated....its just not there.

Curious to know how people felt on Ritalin IR or LA?

Is the crash really bad in the evening? My thinking is, if I can handle being on Adderall or Vyvanse, Ritalin shouldn't be that bad, especially if its not PUMPING dopamine into the brain, just inhibiting reuptake. Im kind of wondering if that might help feel less crashed or "burnt out" feeling.

Guitarbuzz is now out, as a website that is similar to Bassbuzz. Has anyone tried it out yet?

I have always wanted to learn guitar.

I remember I tried a very long time ago (35 now), and I gave up....it felt overwhelming, and I never knew where to start. Of course back then, there was NEARLY the amount of online resources as now, its actually crazy.

Anyways, I started with a bass guitar and bassbuzz website. So far thats been a really really useful place for learning bass, and just the backbone of music tbh. Things you kinda know exist, but its really dissected for you to think about.

Someone mentioned they now have a "guitarbuzz" version, and this got me really interested right away.

So the question is, has anyone here tried that version out? I have seen justinguitar as being one of the many greatly suggested options here, but I really think the bassbuzz course is well structured for bass....so im hoping the guitar one will be too.

Follow up of the 5 string Warwick Rockbass $$ (double buck)

Hello, I posted about a $600 Warwick I saw on FB.

This is the photos for anyone who was curious to know what it was. I am a goofball and should have done that in the first place, my bad.

It looks like it is the newer version with double bridge, double humbuckers, great condition as far as photos show. Also from what I can see, probably the ones made in China and not German.

I know that’s not AS ideal, but my god are Warwicks sexy bass guitars… :(

He said he will let me play it or he can send me a video of it played, obviously will want to look it over throughly (tone knobs, volume etc)

Photos: https://imgur.com/a/apLYnV2

Is this still worth it? Or is it junk?

Warwick 5 string worth it?

So I know I asked about thumb placement earlier, and appreciate the honest feedback about that.

But now….I have a new question 😂.

This guy is selling his 5 string Warwick, and even if I’m only learning 4 string now, is this price worth it?

Currently have the cheaper $400 stingray ray 4 (Sterling by musician) bass.

This guy is selling his 5 string Warwick Corvette (assuming rock bass?). He is only asking $600….if I’m not mistaken, these are actually worth quite a bit more.

His posts writes

“Barely used Corvette Warwick 5 string bass.

Don't have much use for a 5 string bass at this point and moving soon so looking for a good home for it.

Slight buzzing on 7th fret for the 2 high strings but doesn't come through amp.

Perfect for anyone playing Jazz or drop tuned metal. Sounds and plays beautifully but I don't play bass much anymore.”

Also mention they are interested in drums or guitars.

It looks pretty mint, but I asked for more photos, and when asking about the pickups, he just says “they are active MEC pickups”.

Is this bass worth it? I plan to try to shoot down another 500 so my local music shop can just go through it and restring or check anything if necessary. I asked them about marketplace items and the owner said “there’s really not a lot you can’t adjust or make sound right again, assuming it’s not severely damaged or needing a lot of help, but we would tell you if that was the case, in most cases, you’re probably fine. We charge 65 for basic checks/setup, and 100 usually at most”

Curious on your thoughts. I love the Warwick tones, a lot. There’s none around my area at all. Happy to send a DM if you’re curious to know what the posted photos look like.

Thumb on bass neck when playing/practicing?

As seen in this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKRhUCskRjI

I find that having my thumb on the neck to play is A LOT more comfortable than trying to "keep it behind the neck" which seems to be the "proper?" way when learning/practicing?

Ive been blasting through the bassbuzz course, and honestly found that bass comfort overall is a lot easier than I even realized, but that might also just be because the course is done so well. So thanks to people for suggesting that. I just remember when I tried to learn electric guitar YEARS ago, and it was a complete disaster. Still want to, but I will get to that whenever I can lol.

ANYWAYS, to the point:

Did this person just learn a bad habit?

For reference, I have a Sterling Stringray Ray 4, and my god the neck just does not feel wide enough compared to my hands. I find that trying to keep my thumb behind the neck just does not feel comfortable at all, and often times I lean more towards doing what Nate does in that video.

But I am so early on where I can make or break bad habits, and I want to know if should say F it and do it anyways, or just train my hands to get used to it.

What would long time playing bass experts advise?

Best places to learn electric guitar?

Hello,

Currently have a bass and have the bassbuzz course, pretty highly rated, fairly informative, great for newbies.

Is there anything like this but for electric guitar?

I’ve seen Justinguitar. Is there anything else?

I guess what I’m looking for is something structured and logical like bassbuzz, that’s to the point, actual helpful and will not leave you scratching your head lol.

Bass is fun, but my wife’s dad also owns guitars himself, so I’m trying to see if maybe I might be into that more. Figured at least trying both to see where I really settle in between those two.

Just started esthetics

(Please delete if not allowed).

I just started esthetics last week, and so far it’s been a bit of a bumpy road. I am 28F and never really did super well in high school, as a I had a learning disability and still do. With that said, I am at the point in life where I wanted to pursue something I love, as opposed to a regular 9-5 that didn’t pay well or treat me well.

More to the point. Our school uses pivot point. Our teacher creates slides we go over in class, and we have a “study guide” that we do homework in. We also have an IPad with the ebook and other online quizzes to test knowledge.

So far, the first week has been “ok”, but I’m struggling with the book work side of things, and doing very well in the hands on side.

So we had our first quiz, and I bombed it. 50/100 :(. The teacher gave us a “study sheet”, so I worked hard to look over that sheet and try to understand that material (which I had no issues remembering).

The problem:

the teacher told us not to read the book, since she will be going over most of what we NEED to know for our state boards in the homework parts, and slideshows.

The problem is, some of the questions on the quiz were things pulled from the slides per each section of the book, eg: 101.1, 101.2 etc. and I did not realize this. I asked my husband and he was confused, and that’s when he realized that the question was not from a study guide or “end of section quiz”, but it was a tidbit from the slide that she just threw in there as if it was “are you paying attention” and I guess that makes sense.

The main question and point:

For those of you who used pivot point, or maybe had a teacher do similar things, what helped you study for those tricky, out of left field questions you weren’t expecting?

Are there websites like maybe quizlet (husband suggested he used this in college), or does pivot point have anything specific that has questions like this info to go over.

Again….I really struggled to learn in highschool, and this has been an extremely overwhelming challenge…truly….

If there’s anyone else who could give me a suggestion to improve the way I think about the studying (since I do great on everything else), I am all ears. I feel really disappointed in myself, but this isn’t a sob post, this is me realizing I hit a bump, but I do not want to give up, I can’t give up…..

My husband has already offered to help me study and create flash cards and whatever he can to help me during those tricky quizzes and exams, but he wants to know how to help, which is why I am here asking.

Thanks so much if this post really works out ❤️

Seeming to lag in games?

Hello. I feel like compared to when I had Starlink my first time around (November/Dec last year) and tested things. I never really got weird lag (in gaming)now…I feel like I do.

Could these obstructions really cause that many issues? I’d think that Starlink would just know the boundaries and switch satellites since it’s only at the very edge.

StarGear 150’ cable vs branded?

Probably silly question, but I figured I’d ask anyways.

I was looking at the Starlink 45m/150’ cable and it’s $115, oof. That’s not even the worst part. The annoying part is that the cables are mostly sold out around me.

Is the StarGear version worth risking? It looks virtually the same, and it’s also significantly cheaper. Also comes in far more sizes.

Obviously, I’d rather NOT risk it if it’s crap, or if people have had issues with them.

I just wanted to see what others experiences with the cable were, and if you felt like it was junk/not worth it.

Also curious to know if Starlink cares if you’re using a third party or not. I did the rental dish with the POE brick, with likely the intention to fully own, since I don’t think Spectrums high split “upgrades” are coming anytime soon? And I also don’t think it’s gonna make a better experience online from what I’ve seen, jitter and latency hardly improve.

Thanks for the feedback!

How to buy Starlink standard 4 kit?

I noticed you can often buy the Starlink standard 4 x kit everywhere....but I do not want that, I want to simply buy the kit that comes with the POE brick and smaller router.

Main reason is...I am planning to go from DISH > POE brick, to 3rd party router....I may use the router initially to set up (if thats even needed?) but mainly, I want to bypass that and just use POE brick and dish to my UCG Fiber and make one of the ports a WAN port. I guess alternatively I could use a SFP to rj45 module, and setup that there too, the SFP doesn't seem to get too hot, and ive had one plugged in for a bit without any issues.

I know I could get the 4 X kit and just put the router on bypass...but eh, one more thing in the mix I dont want lol.

TL;DR

Is there any way I can NOT rent the Starndard 4 kit, but instead buy it? This one seems to fit my needs the most.

Thanks!

Latency/Jitter issues during peak hours

Posted in the official Spectrum subreddit to have a mod look at my account.

During morning noon, my connection is great. I can play FPS shooter fairly smoothly, no major hitreg issues, speed issues, signal issues...everything is great...or as good as it will probably be without high split upgrades anyways.

Then comes peak hour times....in the evenings...everything kinda sucks. Try to play online shooter games, and my latency is not stable at all. What might have been a consistent 26/27 ms in game, is now suffering swings of jitter constantly. I just die instantly in every gunfight, every match. Sometimes to the point where I get slight lagging around feelings. I also play mmos, and I have noticed more instances of desync too.

I asked the support if they could check signal levels (they are rock solid of course), if there is maybe noise, or really any other signs that could point out as to what was going on....more notably congestion issues since it almost seems like that is what is happening, and I had experienced similar on fiber before the ISP fixed the capacity issues.

IS it true that they cannot see bandwidth utilization? I feel like they area allowed to hint it could be an issue, but are not allowed to actually tell me that. If they can see node health (and they have reported it to be fine) why can they not see utilization? That seems like complete nonsense to me.

TL;DR

Is my only option here REALLY to have a tech come out during those hours? Also as a tech....what should I suggest or ask of the tech to potentially check for when they are here....I really hate that this works so well during the day...and not as much in evening. I dont get any crazy buffering or major speed loss....so I just dont know what to do here...but there is CLEARLY something different between morning and evening...

Sorry to seem annoyed, but I assume if this is affecting me, its likely affecting other people off the same node. It may even be that I am sitting duck until network upgrades happen as well...

Internet connection sucks in the evening

If I play games in the morning, everything feels great. Latency is good, speeds are good. Virtually ZERO issues at all. Gaming feels more real time, jitter is very very minimal. Its as good as it can be without being lower latency fiber.

I work as IT for an MSP and I have seen how snappy, low latency Spectrum enterprise can be....but the cable internet is just an absolute disappointment of a product. I know it probably will get better...hopefully....

However, as the day goes on, things get worse, and even more so in the evenings. Say 5pm to like 10-11pm, gaming online is an absolute MESS. Constantly getting more jitter than usual, more buffering, just problems

Of course, if you look at my modem readings right now, you'd probably see good signals. I have already had techs come and see if we have issues, but I dont think its on our end. I have heard from techs that even your neighbors (literally anywhere up to the node) can be the cause of the issue upstream if they are causing noise to be in the lines.

Is there any way to find out what the heck is happening?

Gaming on 100meg vs other plans

Looking at the 100 meg plan as a solution for gaming.

Has anyone ever used the 100 meg plan more competitively in shooters like battlefield, call of duty etc and noticed any major issues with things like bullet registration, especially more specifically during peak hours?

I have cable, but it’s absolutely terrible, and does not feel real time hardly at all. Constantly shooting and dying first, and Spectrum “does not see any issues”. Of course they don’t.

Anyways, I’m a pretty competitive person, so I am very aware of little annoying issues like hitreg or games feeling like I just died in a split second, or moments where things just feel delayed. I’m sure anyone who’s ever played shooters knows exactly what I mean.

TL;DR

I tried out residential max in the past, and noticed it had much better consistency than cable, but since then, now that I don’t have Starlink anymore, they have rolled out the three tier bandwidth options. My guess is that they should have enough capacity now to where they feel they can offer a quality experience even gaming, at 100 meg.

Anyone who’s used the 100 meg during peak hours and play fairly competitively, I’d love to know your experiences.

Thanks

Questions about Standard 4 vs Standard 4x and connection to UCG Fiber Gateway

Hey guys.

I tested Starlink for a bit last year, and returned my dish because my cable conenction "seemed" to be working okay. Well...here we are, and its running like shit again. Shocker Spectrum.

So I am here now without a dish, and no Starlink lol.

So what I mainly want to know:

With the standard 4 kit that has the router mini, can you entirely bypass that device (take it out of the mix) and could I connect straight into my UCG Fiber as a secondary WAN? I assume if I did, it would have to be AFTER the setup is done?

My goal is to essentially Keep Spectrum because its still cheap at $50/mo for several years (MDU discount I carried with me when moving), and then get Starlink connected as a failover WAN, but then set a static route policy so that my "Gaming Vlan" traffic, gets routed through Starlink, and as needed, I could pause the policy whenever I had larger downloads to pull from Spectrum, since the speeds are great, but the latency and consistency is utter garbage. I have already tried troubleshooting and just get "your signal levels look great"...yeah im sure it has nothing to do with signal, at least not on my end, but it could be a neighbor bleeding RF, who knows really.

Anyways

TLDR;

Can a router mini be removed entirely out of the equation?

How useful are the stats on the Unifi gateways? I saw that when you get Starlink connected, it will track stats for you, which I think it pretty damn cool.

Worst case, I could also just connect directly to the mini router as needed, but that can get annoying when I wanna bounce back and forth between connections, so I figured a policy to set and leave it alone would be helpful.

Started at 30mg, up or down based on symptoms?

Hey there.

So since connecting with my doc again about ADHD meds, I had posted about starting Vyvanse 30mg, and I was not having a great time with that dose.

Issues:

Headaches, regardless of how much water or eating before.

Feeling kinda flat, not really to excited about much

Night time crash, awful, not depressed feeling, but it definitely made me feel a little like I was ancy and could not keep still, whereas actually being on Vyvanse I felt perfectly fine.

Pros:

Definitely more focus, both in work and even gaming like FPS games, my accuracy actually increased substantially, and I didn’t “overcorrect” my aim nearly as much, it felt like I was playing how I should be for my skill level.

At work, definitely more locked in, more assertion to take more help desk tickets and random things I’d normally be like nah, I don’t feel like doing that. Nothing like what Adderall did for me, but better than caffeine alone for sure.

All in all, Vyvanse is absolutely considerably more effective than caffeine for being focused, and even energy wise, I NEVER felt like I need to “wake up” when it finally kicked in. It was like someone just turned the lights on. I actually felt human again.

Despite some of the positives, I wanted to go back to Adderall where I overall had always had better results. So I explained how I felt flat, crashes, headaches to the doctor, and so we we settled with just 10mg Adderall XR…well……apparently there’s a ridiculous shortage with that, and my script hasn’t even been filled a week later, where as became it was no issue at all.

The main point here:

Should I consider lowering my dose a bit to ease my body more into Vyvanse, given the major issues with Adderall? I know that’s the drug I prefer, but at this point I’m just going back to having major issues with focus again, and I feel like the meds made me a better version of myself that actually could focus, so in this case, I guess beggars can’t be choosers :(.

I wonder if 10mg or 20mg Vyvanse might be an easier path to ease my way in. At 30mg, it was definitely effective despite my 230lbs body weight, so maybe it’s just responding well for me regardless?

Any thoughts or advice? Personally I can deal with headaches, but that crash at end of day was very uncomfortable feeling, and maybe even considering if something like Amoxetine might be just easier for sustained focus day to day with no crash? Idk….im just not sure what to do :/

Started 30MG Vyvanse today. Starting to lose focus into the afternoon.

First off, I will say that I am not new to ADHD medications.

I am pretty experienced with adderall XR, IR, and also Ritalin (though that was short lived since I didnt care for it).

This morning around 7:40am, I took the Vyvanse, even though I had it prescribed a few days previous. I guess I was a little anxious about how I would feel on it, since I kinda stopped taking ADHD meds after I got out of college (prescribed of course).

Come 9-9:30, I got what was basically a sense of more energy, and also a lot more focus than I am typically used to. Usually im grasping for some sort of caffeine, did not even need that one bit. For once, I felt like I was actually more FOCUSED. Maybe it was placebo? Idk. I also felt a bit of a slight mood lift, nothing crazy though. I think just generally being addicted to caffeine, im one of those "If I dont have my coffee, GTFO" kinda of people 😄.

Anyways, the MAIN point I made this post, is because now that its 2:32....I feel like my ability to focus is actually crashing. I dont feel tired, actually not even close, however...I dont feel like I can pay attention typing as easily, even as I write this now, but earlier? Not an issue at all.

I have been: drinking plenty of water, eating a snack, trying to stand up and take breaks, as I do have an at desk job primarially (IT hybrid remote).

Has anyone else ever experienced this on Vyvanse or just ADHD stimulants in general? Overall I think im having a positive result. Maybe dosage could be a bump higher, but I think my PCP wanted to see how I felt on 30 and then go from there, given that I was already used to adderall, and this actually has a VERY gentle "come up" if you will. Adderall on the other hand is like take it....30 minutes later its kicking in! I think even on adderall though I may have had some of this issue, but it was mostly only when I drank coffee....I think because the coffee was overstimulating and lead to a crash faster....but that was long enough ago where I dont even totally remember.

TL;DR, is it typical to have a "crash of ability to focus", despite not actually feeling unfocused if you stand up and move around? Its just so whacky lol.
