I Made a Spreadsheet to Track My Own F1 Career in 2012 and Eventually Just Built the Game (8Bit Racing)
Hey r/f1manager, long time fan of the game and first time posting my own game here.
I used to track fictional F1 seasons in spreadsheets, swapping drivers between teams, simulating results, building my own little world. I wanted a game that let me do all of that properly on my phone so I built 8Bit Racing.
It's a full career manager where you build a team over multiple seasons, keep the board happy, negotiate with drivers, develop your car through regulation cycles and make real-time strategy calls during every race. You can play through real seasons, put yourself and your friends in the grid, or build something completely fictional. A full season takes 20-30 minutes, works offline and is designed to feel manageable on a phone rather than be too complicated and slow.
Features:
- Real-time race strategy with tyre compounds, degradation, wet weather and dirty air
- Driver transfers with actual contract haggling and agent negotiations
- Car development across power, aero and chassis with escalating costs
- Chairman happiness system where poor results get you sacked mid-season
- Regulation era resets that reshuffle the competitive order
- Customisable names, drivers and teams
I've just set up r/8BitRacing as a home for the community. Happy to answer any questions and hoping to get some feedback from people who know the genre well. If you do download it, a review on the App Store genuinely means the world at this stage.
