I hate that the public doesn't see that Taylor is a manipulative narcissist

Disclaimer: I'm not diagnosing. Merriam Webster marks the difference, and one definition defines narcissist as "an extremely self-centered person who has an exaggerated sense of self-importance" and defines Narcissism as "egotism, egocentrism." Also, she said her charitable behavior is narcissism disguised as altruism for optics in the song Anti-Hero and called herself a Machiavellian in Mastermind, so...Taylor agrees with me that she's a manipulative narcissist🤷🏻‍♀️

The way she handled Ana's death sent a shiver down my spine. The handwritten font post she had made on Instagram (so it looks personal, though it isn't. Again, it's all about optics) where she didn't name Ana, probably because she didn't know her name, and then lied, saying Ana died before the show. I remember watching a part of her eras tour performance in Brazil. There was a moment when the crowd chanted for water and Taylor's response to her Brazilian fans, people who paid money to see her and were in 100+ degree weather, was "we don't need to chant" as she points to one person to get water and the entire arena starts chanting "water water water". Her audience decided that during the moment of the tour where Taylor stood and received...what was it...a 2 minute standing ovation after Champagne Problems? they were going to be silent for Ana, so Taylor cut the segment and moved on. This might be unpopular, but I side eye Ana's family for doing a photo op with Taylor while they wore shirts with Ana's face on it. If Ana was my daughter, I'm suing the venue and suing Taylor or her team for not cancelling the tour despite knowing the conditions, and no amount of money would shut me up. I would be on every Brazilian news program telling as many people as I could how disappointing Taylor's indifference had been and wondering why people still support her.

She was silent for a whole month after cancelling the Vienna portion of her Eras tour, but found time to do a pap walk in London (I think it was the pap walk in response to Healy's engagement. I'm not sure), and then decided to address her Vienna fans in a post where she lectured them. "Let me be clear". Imagine talking down to people who could've died, all because they asked for a little acknowledgement.

If you read up on every feud she's ever had, it's all lies and manipulation. Scooter Braun did nothing illegal and Taylor's dad was on the board of the record company and made 15 million off Scooter's deal. Yet Taylor still asked her fans on tumblr to harass Scooter "Let him know how you feel". Taylor is on video gaving Kanye permission to say he made her famous, Tree Paine said Taylor never talked with him, and then pushed the narrative that Taylor was in hiding though you can find a timeline of her 2017 where she performed live multiple times and received applause. And let's not forget Taylor mocked Kim's robbery in her Look What You Made Me Do music video. Taylor started the feud with Katy Perry. Taylor tried HARD, so hard, to manipulate the public against Joe Alwyn as she had done for like 99% of her many exes. Because she couldn't turn people against him (there isn't a lot of info about him that she can easter egg and he's not a big name. Sorry if that bothers people here because you all seem to love Joe) she had to shame him for gray rocking her and refusing to give her ammo to use against him during their relationship, so she went full mask off and called him nothing and said she was emotionally cheating on him the whole time. If Folklore and Evermore really weren't fictional, then she admitted she turned down his proposal, so I don't know where the "Joe wouldn't marry her" narrative came from, and when Lavender Haze was about not wanting to get married too. I don't know what she wants and I don't think she knows either.

But she constantly contradicts herself, and she admits it. "When I said I didn't believe in marriage, that was a lie." Kudos to her for admitting she lies, but that isn't even one of her top 25 worst lies. Let's talk about how she tried to paint Jake as a monster for dating her when she was 20 while he was in his 20s, and then in her 20s she dates two 18 year olds, one of them one day after he turned 18. Let's talk about how she hates the b word being used against her because she's miss feminist, and then in Life of a Showgirl she calls women that same word. Let's talk about all of Miss Americana, which has completely aged like milk. And if you think Taylor or her team doesn't lie, you weren't paying attention to the Baldoni-Lively fiasco.

I really hate when I see comments from people who know little about Taylor say Taylor is hated for no reason. If you're a fan or former fan, at least you know her enough to know what you're talking about. I feel like a person shouldn't speak about Taylor with confidence until they've read that one article that goes deep into the Conor Kennedy story. I can't use the "G" word here, but that's obviously what it was. If Taylor was a 22/23 year old man hanging out with a 17 year old girl, going public with her the day after she turned 18, checking her out of High School, calling the paparazzi for a photo op as he accompanies his 18 year old girlfriend to visit his mother's grave, buying a mansion next door to her home after 4 weeks of dating, that's what we would call it. It wouldn't playfully be "unhinged behavior" or an "era" or part of a lore. It's legit creepy, psychotic behavior and the fact Taylor's team swept the Conor stuff under the rug is a testament to how good her PR team is.

I'm so glad she made a spectacle of her wedding and invited Brad Pitt, Steven J. Demetriou (and his son, junior, the Ohio Republican), Joshua Kushner and she had Rob Schneider's (who is a transphobe and racist and who has publicly mocked Travis and Taylor as a "left wing psyop", among other things) best friend and former George W Bush fan Adam Sandler officiate the wedding. I also love how she was the only pop star to stay silent for years as Trump's admin used her music and image despite her being sue happy enough to threaten etsy creators, college students, and an 18 year old Olivia Rodrigo.

For me, the argument isn't whether Taylor is a great lyricist

The question is "Why is she treated like her ability as a lyricist is superior to others?"

Please explain to me what puts Taylor, especially this era of "ChatTPD" and "Life of a fauxgirl's girl" Taylor, above her contemporaries like Hayley William, St. Vincent, Lana Del Rey, etc. How is it Taylor whose the best of her generation, or of all time?

How does she compare to younger acts like Phoebe Bridgers, Lorde, Billie Eilish, etc.

Or Older acts like Fiona Apple, Tori Amos, PJ Harvey, Dido, Enya, etc.

Is it because of her quantity of work? Is that more important than the quality of the output?

I know I'm using specific examples, but there's so many great songwriters who write poetically about deep themes, some personal and some cultural.

I like a few Taylor songs, but people talk about her like she's the Joan Baez of her generation and it drives me up the damn wall.

And I don't care about accomplishments (committee recognition). I could point out Billie Eilish is only 24 and already has 10 Grammys and 2 Oscars, or that Kendrick has a Pulitzer and 13 Grammys. But it's not the awards that give quality to their work. It doesn't matter what Taylor wins or how she charts or what she's inducted into or how many legends praise her. The quality of her work is separate from that, and I just don't see her as something special.

It's fine to say she's okay. Why do we have to pretend "Shakespeare or Taylor Swift" is a challenging game?

EDIT: I just saw a video where Aimee Mayo and Brad Warren talk about how they wrote with Taylor when she was a teen and how Brad was only paid $900. So...I don't know if I trust whether she wrote her own music or not.

ATTENTION EVERYONE ON REDDIT COMPLAINING ABOUT AI

All of our posts are being used to train AI. You are literally helping AI when you use Reddit to complain about AI.

Artists/writers: if you publish your work, it will be used to train AI. If you post your work on Reddit, guess what happens.

Writers crying about Google Docs feeding their AI: Your concern doesn't make sense. It's like if someone wanted to plant a tree in the forest, but felt like they had to hide their seeds. The logger doesn't care about your seeds, the logger is coming for your tree.

It's done. You are shaking your fist at the clouds.

Thank you for your attention on this matter.

The Other Side - Alfred Kubin

We are all wanderers—every single one of us, without exception. It has been so as long as humanity has existed, and so it will always remain. From the most ancient nomadic tribes to the modern-day leisure traveler, from the marauding raid to the latest voyages of discovery—however varied the motives, the wandering goes on. Foot, hoof, wheel, steam, electricity, gasoline, and whatever else may come—the means matter not; the wandering remains. Whether I walk to the local inn or circle the globe, I am wandering. And all animals wander with me, moving now here, now there. Our ancient Earth sets the great example. An instinct, a law of nature! No matter how weary you may be, you must go on—ever onward. ... True rest comes only when one has finally wandered away for good. And secretly, everyone looks forward to that—even if they do not admit it to themselves. Many do not even realize it. There are those who have traveled far and no longer wish to wander, or who lie sick in bed, or are otherwise unable to roam; yet they travel within their own minds, in their imaginations—and they, too, often journey far, very far... but standing still? No—that simply does not exist!

Dead Girls - Richard Calder

The stretch limousine turned amphibious at the Ploenchit Road. Conscious but immobile, my eyes like fused glass, I stared, unblinking, through the spray-flecked windscreen at the cleft black water of the klong. High-rises, shopping malls, jeux vérites arcades rose like giant nenuphars to spill their photoelectric sap into that dead, viscous sea; a sea that had reclaimed the city of angels and made it once more the Venice of the East. From the water protruded chedi and prang of sunken temples: indices of an obsolete civilization. The traffic—splashing those humbled steeples with their blasphemous slalom—shimmered behind a veil of luminous gas, a gasoline-methane smog lit by the green lasers and floodlights of advertisement hoardings, holographic and photo-mechanical; by the green mercury-vapour glow of underwater road signs; by the green paper lanterns hanging from the shop-houses of adjoining sois. Sheet lightning scattered the moonless sky and for an instant the green filter dissolved and the city was delineated in hues of sepia, like a time-damaged print of Fritz Lang’s Metropolis. This was an art nouveau city, a deco city, its sinewy, undulating lines and geometric chic copied from the fashions of the aube du millénaire and imposed on the slums of its twentieth-century inheritance and the sublimities of its ancient past. Again, the pall of greenness descended, a peasouper, a gangrenous membrane, a steamy decay of tropical night. Monorails, skywalks, with their hoards of winepressed humanity, passed above us; autogyros too, with their fat-cat cargoes, hovering above the city’s stagnant pools like steel-hulled dragonflies. Once more, the lightning; and then the rain began, coagulating the green tint of the night so that we seemed to be moving through an ocean’s depths. Green was that year’s colour; green, the colour of perversity; a green as luminous as a certain pair of eyes.

What would you say to paranoid writers who are afraid of Google Docs?

This seems to be a thing across this site.

Aspiring writers seem to think that even after they disable Gemini, Google is scanning their docs to feed AI.

I think this is ridiculous because I imagine google would have to deal with legal issues since they state they don't do that for private docs.

But what would you say to someone who feels that way to try and alleviate their concern?

Luddites are about to turn me into an AI defender out of spite

Is my logic faulty?

A) Regardless how anyone feels, AI has been trained on some of the greatest literature ever published.

B) Books that have been published are fed to AI. I highly doubt big tech is looking for sloppy initial drafts to train AI.

C) If someone is published, their work will be used to feed AI.

There are amateur writers who react to Google Docs the way cavemen reacted to fire. They seriously believe that big bad Google is reading their private docs (you have the option to turn off Gemini) and that their docs are being scanned. If this were true, what exactly does it mean? Do I write more human than the greatest writers who ever lived?

"Muh ethics" Pat yourself on the back then. If you're published, you will be helping AI. And why do your ethics begin and end with Google? Aren't we all on Reddit right now? Are our posts not feeding AI?

All of these anti-AI arguments are going to look foolish in 2030. I currently don't have a strong opinion, but the more I interact with Anti-AI folks, the more I become pro-AI.

Country music fans: Don't let Taylor Swift back in

She left country because she thought it wasn't popular enough for her, so she jumped ship in order to expand her brand. She dropped the country accent and stopped pretending she was from Nashville.

With acts that continuously chart this decade, and chart for more weeks than her songs, acts like Ella Langley and Shaboozey and Morgan Wallen, she wants back in. Country is popular again, and she wants a piece of that. That might be the real reason she attended TEU, she's networking with country acts and trying to endear herself to Nashville again. That's why after being silent for the passing of Toby Keith and not paying respects to a single country artist from 2012 to 2024, she suddenly shows up on a screen to pay respects to Alan Jackson during his farewell tour. (Thankfully she was booed).

She might even think she can manipulate the general population into forgetting she's from Reading, Pa. I know she won't do this, but It would be so funny if she tried to act like she had a southern accent again 😂

But seriously. I'm asking that all fans of country see what Taylor's doing with this Toy Story song. I'm willing to bet money that TS13 will be a country album. If you're a southerner or country fan, please know that Taylor looks down on you. You were nothing but a stepping stone and she never had respect for the genre. Please, please don't let her back in. Even if kind-hearted legends like Dolly Parton or Reba bring Taylor on stage (and I'm sure she thinks of them the same way she thinks of Celine Dion), don't fall for it.

I'm sure if Gospel ever became popular enough to dominate the Billboard hot 100, Taylor would start wearing crosses and singing about the lord. Don't pay Taylor Grift any mind.
