"Feral" university cat - final update

so some of y'all might remember last year i rescued this sweet older gentleman that i saw in a parking lot. i finally feel like i can share him without crying. we brought him home on May 21st 2025 and he passed away 6 months later to the day on November 21st 2025 at home, in my arms. when I saw him he had fleas, worms, broken teeth, scabs, and the doctor confirmed he was FIV+. although we only had six months i find comfort in the fact that he lived out his retirement in absolute bliss. he was the sweetest, funniest old man. 9 days before he passed we brought home a dog that was being rehomed. if it wasn't for her, i would've never left my bed. having her forced me to get out and get some fresh air even on the days that i just wanted to rot under the covers. it felt like he was waiting to make sure we were gonna be okay. last month we took in another cat that was being rehomed and i found myself calling him Max instead of his name, Remy, because he reminds me of Max so much it's crazy. last night, this feral little girl limped across our front porch and now she's in our bathroom. our love for Max lives on forever in all the critters we care for. he was one of a kind. rest in peace, Max 🩷🩷🩷

Feral baby girl in quarantine. what can I do?

so this cutie limped in front of my door yesterday. my husband and i knew immediately that we had to help her despite already having 4 cats and a dog of our own, with one cat being special needs. she's missing her back left foot. haven't gotten a good look but it seems like it might be a birth defects rather than trauma. she bit my thumb so now she's on quarantine for 10 days. it's been 18 hours since then. i reported the bite but the person at the AC office said that the bite investigators were the ones that could answer my questions. i believe she has mange/some type of infection. i read that she can't get her rabies shot until quarantine is done but i have to wait for the investigators to tell me if I can take her to the vet or not. is there anything y'all recommend that I can do at home in the meantime? i've rescued before but never a baby in this condition. any (kind and respectful) advice is welcome!

Miss Lily June 💓

she was originally a rescue and was rehomed to me from a wonderful family nearly a year ago. she's 5 years old super sweet, low to medium energy, super smart, does not shed, and she weighs between 15-18lbs. her previous vet thought that she was a jack russell x mini schnauzer but i just don't see it! the pictures at the end are from when i got her and she still had her long coat. at first her fur felt a little rough/wiry but now it's pretty smooth but her groomer and i both use conditioner on her so that's probably why. in the last photo you can see her tummy, she's pretty spotty under all her fur. someone on another sub pointed out she could be a poodle mix so i searched up jack russell x poodle & chi x poodle and i do see it! curious to know what everyone else thinks. i plan on getting an embark test but they're a little out of my price range rn.

Meet Lily June

she was rehomed to me (from a wonderful family). she's about 15-18lbs. I included photos of her when her fur is long at the end but I usually keep it short in the florida heat. when i first got her her fur was kinda rough a wiry?? but now it's soft no matter the length. her groomer does use conditioner on her and so do i so maybe thats it. her previous vet said she could be a jack russell x mini schnauzer mix but i just can't see it! i tried googling around but she looks like every little white dog mix so i wanna know what the people have to say!

Meet my orange cat collection 🧡 + an honorable mention

my pride and joy, my gorgeous gorgeous boys. staring with my newest thrift find is Remy (1-3), approx 6 years old. the vet described him as "really weird. he's just kind of there. not mentally there but just there" and that really sums up who he is as a cat. next up is my second find Murray (4-6), 5 years old. he plays fetch, he gives a lot of kisses, his breath always smells like fish even through he doesn't eat a lot of fish. he is the sweetest boy who's also scared of everyone else. he is beauty, he is grace. next in line is my first thrift success Ari (7-8, 12), 5 years old. i've had him since he was 7 weeks and he genuinely thinks he's a little boy. like a human child. the most uncatlike cat i've ever met. he puts his mouth to my mouth to give me kisses, he loves being picked up like a baby, and enjoys long stroller rides through the walmart. also the biggest asshole but he's my asshole.

honorable mention, my third unplanned pick up, Lucy 2.5 years old. she is permanently tiny fluctuating between 7 to 8 lbs. her favorite things in the world are getting into shit she shouldn't be getting into (like the clean laundry, the dirty laundry, and behind the stove), annoying her brothers, and biting my reusable straws. she loves to gloat about her privilege by watching the ferals we feed eat through the window but will absolutely lose her shit if you try to take her outside. she talks back, sassy as hell. first time she got on top of the fridge i said "what are you doing" with a little neck movement. she stared back for 5 seconds before moving her neck back at me. irritating!
