Upcoming Meeting to Select LA Metro Board Member Representing North County/SFV – Aug 26 (Wednesday) at 11:30am – In Person, Phone, & Online

Source: https://cityselection.lacounty.gov/ And yes, I'm aware they mistakenly put Thursday (instead of Wednesday).

On August 26^(th) at 11:30am, the North County/San Fernando Valley sector will have a meeting to select their candidate for the vacant LA Metro Board of Director seat. Once selected, it will go to a full vote on the LA County City Selection Committee (where all cities within LA County votes).

Previously the Sector for North County/SFV selected John Gibs (Santa Clarita Councilmember), only to not get approved when the full LA County City Selection Committee voted. Now the Sector is meeting again to decide who will be their candidate. There were other candidates running in the previous Sector meeting: Dan Brotman (Glendale City Councilmember), and Eric Ohlsen (Palmdale Mayor). It remains to be seen if the same or different candidates will be running for the seat. Please note that both the North County/SFV Sector & LA County City Selection Committee votes are based on city weighted-population votes (and not raw number of cities vote). Picture for North County/SFV weighted votes posted above.

Members of the public can provide public comments In-Person or By Phone:

*In-Person at the LA County San Fernando Library (Meeting Room). Address: 217 N. Maclay Ave, San Fernando, CA 91340

*By Phone: 1-213-306-3065, Access Code: TBA, Passcode: TBA

Note: TBA will be updated when the info is posted, the most up to date info is here: https://cityselection.lacounty.gov/

Newly Appointed Board Member Mayor Rex Richardson Rides LA Metro to His 1st Board Meeting

Source: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DbKR2vttFqC/?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==

Hopefully Rex Richardson will continue using LA Metro (and often) throughout his appointment on the LA Metro Board of Directors (he represents South-East LA County Region).

We definitely need more Board Members who are actively taking LA Metro often in order to encourage more pro-transit policies that best represents us transit riders. Even during the video, he mentions how he supports having an active transit rider on the LA Metro Board for that similar reason.

Montebello Bus Lines - Line 20 (Greenwood Ave/Montebello Blvd-San Gabriel Blvd) - Now Offering Free Fareless Rides from June 1st to Dec. 31st 2026 (Tentatively).

Found this neat post on the Montebello Transit Instagram account, saying they’re offering free rides for the next 6 months (if funding permits) for just 1 out of their 8 bus lines: Line 20.

Line 20 travels from the City of Montebello to City of San Gabriel, along Greenwood Ave/Montebello Blvd, and through San Gabriel Blvd until you reach Las Tunas Dr. (please note: there’s currently an active detour between Montebello Blvd/Mines Ave & Montebello Blvd/Whittier Blvd due to a Union Pacific Railroad grade separation project).

Also it has a 28-minute frequency average with service starting from around 4:30/5:30am to ending at around 8:30/9:30pm.

It remains to be seen if Montebello Bus Lines will be able to extend their free fares into more time, or if they plan on providing more free rides on more bus lines?

Free Farless Rides – June 2nd (Tuesday) on LAST DAY for Primary Election – LA Metro, BBB, LBT, RTA - VBM Ballot Drop Boxes @ LA Metro Stations Map (Photo)

To encourage riders to cast their votes (whether it’s voting in-person or dropping off their ballots at an official drop box/vote center), different transit agencies are offering free rides on Tuesday June 2nd: LA Metro, BBB (Big Blue Bus), LBT (Long Beach Transit), & RTA (Riverside Transit Agency). Note: You should double check with your local transit agency to see if they too are participating.

Currently I do not see LA Metro's VBM drop box map for June 2026 election, so yes (before anyone says anything) I'm using a previous map from the Nov 2024 election, but I've confirmed using LA County's VBM locator that all the VBM drop boxes on the map are still in use. Here are the 9 Vote-By-Mail Drop Boxes list hosted at LA Metro stations (ordered by their Lines):

  1. Union Station. East Wing - Customer Service Center.
  2. B (Red) & D (Purple): Westlake/MacArthur Park
  3. B (Red) & D (Purple): Wilshire/Vermont
  4. B (Red): Hollywood/Western
  5. B (Red) & G (Orange): North Hollywood
  6. C (Green): Norwalk
  7. C (Green) & J (Silver): Harbor Fwy
  8. J (Silver): Harbor Gateway Transit Center
  9. J (Silver): El Monte

And if you prefer to vote in-person at a Vote Center or drop off you VBM at a Vote Center, here's a full list map for LA County voters: https://locator.lavote.gov/locations/vc?culture=en

As of recent, voter turnout for LA County is currently at 8% (490,000 voted out of 5.8 million registered voters). So all the more reason to go out there and make your voice heard!

Free Fareless Rides - Bike Day May 21st (Thursday) - No Bike Needed for LA Metro & LADOT; Bike Needed for Metrolink; Bike or Helmet Needed: Big Blue Buses, Culver CityBus, Norwalk, Torrance Transit

In celebration of Bike Day on May 21, there are several transit agencies offering free fares to riders.

For LA Metro, all buses, trains and Metro Micro will be free. Metro Bike Share will have free 30-minute rides with promo code: 052126. Also LADOT is offering free rides [Commuter Express + DASH + LAnow (promo code: ACTIVE26)] .

Other transit agencies I found offering fareless rides are: Big Blue Bus, Culver CityBus, Metrolink + Arrow Service, Norwalk Transit, Torrance Transit. However, you will need to bring either a bike or a bike helmet (except for Metrolink which is just bike only).

Here are upcoming Bikeshare events planned for the month: https://bikeshare.metro.net/events/

And have a great Bike Month!
