Waking up

WM3 is waking up and getting settled in the new pot and longer sun times. Another 10 or so days and it's time for MAXIMUM photons to push hard growth this season.

First time! Adenium CHOP

Decide to try and get some radical radial roots (weird specimen because it has 2 legs not a carrot type root)! I cut this one, added root hormone around the beveled edges, and let it dry on a cooling rack for 5 days with a light fan blowing until it was calloused over. Today I potted it up and spread the remaining feeder roots out and away from the caudex, secured it, and put out in the bright shade.

I'll Update after the growing season is over!

Adenium Fatty

Fatty I potted up, I decided to bury it back close to where it was for another season for maximum fatness. I just spread the roots out as I repotted out to the sides so they didn't go straight now. Now a few days in the shade and back to growing it hard!

Walmart find

Picked these two up at Walmart for 14.99. The one with 3 stems has a big ole fat caudex so I repotted and keep buried about the same level of was so next season its even fatter before I raise it. The one with 2 stems I cut a good bit of the roots off flush and put it on the rack to dry. I'm going to try and get some big radial roots going.

14 dollars.. why not give them a shot.

Decide to pick these guys up from the store. They were stashed on the bottom shelf, looked pitiful, and were cheap... my kind of plant. Think I'll grow one normal and try a crazy prune to get serious radial roots on the other. Came in 2.5QT pots.

Travel Question

Has anyone flown cross country with a DR? I picked this one up yesterday. I bare rooted it, placed on a towel indoors to dry out until I fly in a few days on the 7th. It was in a WET thick growing medium. I plan on boxing it and wrapping packing paper around the roots, etc and putting it in my checked bag surrounded by cloths. I expect almost a full leaf drop once I pot it on the 7th.

Travel Time

Picked up this DR today at a big box store in a wet 1 gallon pot. I fly back home soon so I am getting it prepped and ready to fly! Has some cool growth so far, 2 main stalks stuff a few smaller ones coming out of the caudex. Once all the shock from bare root travel, repotting, etc passes and I see new growth I'll probably prune the two larger shoots....CHOP!

New Adenium Arabicum plans

Picked up my new Adenium Arabicum in Tucson AZ from Lowes 7 days ago, it was in a 1 gallon nursery pot.

Day 0: Repotted in a 14in clay unglazed terra cotta pot 6in deep with a 60/40 dry mix of cactus & succlent mix and perlite. (I also lifted the front up a decent amount to straighten it out back is buried the same place as it was in nursery pot).

Day 1 - 3: put in morning sun from sun rise to 1100am then bright shade until 5pm then evening sun from 5pm until morning.

Day 4: increased the morning sun an hour until 1200 noon.

Day 5: Gave it's first watering a good soak into water poured from the drain hole.

Day 6 to to 14: will keep increasing the sun by a little each day until it will stay in MAXIMUM PHOTON exposure, water when soil is dry, and feed a week after second big watering twice a month with a low concentration of equal mix.

Longer term plan: let it grow how ever it wants this season, bring it in once the temp drops. Then next season once it wakes up I'm going to HARD prune 3 to 5in from the caudex! Then let it go all season on the same pot. Next season I'll evaluate the caudex to see about needing a new pot or not and will cut the new branches that grew back to 50% or where they look gnarly.

(I know I have some yellow leaves Im not concerned after a repot and new sun routine I expect it. Also the front legs are off color but imo that's due to then never seeing the sun before, they are hard and firm and that's why we are going slow with the photon exposure).
