Anyone else suffering with heat & humidity intolerance as a trigger? How are we dealing with it?

I’ve always had a hard time regulating my body temperature but I am now dealing with terrible heat and humidity intolerance when out and about during the day. This is a big trigger for my vestibular migraines and vestibular issues. All made worse by perimenopause of course.

This was actually one of my first symptoms before I was officially diagnosed. I get the dizziness, wooziness, and am unbalanced. I’m used to being a sweaty mess but the vestibular symptoms are harder to manage.

How are others coping with the heat?! Please suggest your best tips and products. I will consider anything and everything right now.

I already try to stay hydrated, wear big hats, and stay in the shade as much as I can. I’m wondering if the neck cooking tubes or personal fans are worth it. I’m desperate at this point for some relief so I can still be outdoors when necessary. I hate that VM takes so much from my quality of life.

Personal cooling options when out and about?

I now suffer from terrible heat intolerance when out and about during the day. I also have vestibular migraines which have been made so much worse by perimenopause.

Being out in the summer heat is sometimes unavoidable (I can’t stay trapped indoors). I’m not only a sweaty mess but also become dizzy and unbalanced (even if hydrated, in the shade, etc.)

Fake Thermacell EX90 refills?

Curious if there are fake Thermacell refill cartridges for the EX90?

We get a lot of use out of our Thermacell. Looking for a bulk deal on refills I noticed some really cheap priced bundles on EBay every now and then. Now I’m wondering if I need to worry about fake refills.

I’d read about some fake pads but not the cartridges.

Can we talk percale? Best "non-grippy" percale sheets? Is "smoother" less breathable? Hudson Park vs Boll & Branch?

I recently bought percale sheets since my husband sleeps hot. Picked up a set of Bloomingdale's Hudson Park Italian percale in the store (on sale). The quality seems fine and I do not consider them particularly scratchy. But I do not like how "grippy" or "sticky" they feel when under the sheets! They even feel "thick" to me although they are a lower thread count and nowhere as thick as true vintage percale. My husband sleeps practically naked but I always sleep with PJs (pants and even socks) because I run cold.

I hate the sensation that with every toss and turn the sheets are gripping at my clothes! I don't even like sleeping with a top sheet but that's a separate discussion (spouse prefers it). I

I also bought Boll & Branch's Vintage Washed Percale (also on sale). I actually do like these better. Hard to quantify, but they aren't as "grippy" and a little "smoother." I also felt their other fabric options in the store but this seemed like a good compromise because percale is supposed to be the most breathable.

I clearly prefer softer and smoother, more sateen sheets. But am I compromising breathability for a hot ass sleeper by going for a softer, less textured/grippy fabric?

And I'll be honest, I'm not sure that either of us can tell the difference when it comes to breathability. Hubby doesn't mind the Hudson Park or Boll & Branch (but we both really like their waffle blanket), so no strong preferences there. Past sheets I've used over the years have been vintage sheets (think mid century in groovy patterns, because that's what I collect, and those are often 50 cotton/50 poly or thick percale), Wamsutta, cheap sateen sets from Costco which never lasted, cheap sets from TJ Maxx, and Target Threshold.

Hubby has zero preferences between all of those, but will keep the house cold and a fan constantly blowing on him all night year round regardless of what sheets or blankets we use. I also looked at trying Sferra, Peacock Alley and Thomas Lee sheets. I touched the Sferra and Matouk percale at Bloomies and felt the Matouk was too "scratchy" for me.

Basically, what's the best compromise here, and does it even matter!? I'm happy to invest in several nice sets of sheets for our bedrooms and guest room, but feel sort of silly going down this rabbit hole (and possibly overpaying) if I'm not noticing any huge differences or improvements in sleep quality, etc.

Avocado Green Mattress Too Firm. Try a Talalay topper? Different brand? So tired of mattress shopping.

We’ve been sleeping on our Avocado green “plush” pillow top queen mattress for almost 6 months now and it’s still too firm. This was formerly the “medium” but Avocado recently renamed/rebranded their Green line.

Husband and I are side and back sleepers. I’ve been waking up with a stiff back and soreness, and spend the night switching from side, to back, to side to alleviate any discomfort. Husband (who is much heavier than me) is also waking up stiff, and says the bed could definitely be more comfortable and is nothing like the one we tried in the showroom.

Avocado offered to send us a topper for free to try. Thinking of doing the 3” plush Talalay latex topper. Guess Dunlop is too firm for us?! But it feels criminal to have to put a topper on a brand new $2500+ mattress.

Back to square one and overwhelmed with options. I had tried Saatva, all the options at Sleepare (MLily PowerCool - which liked, Wink, Puffy, etc), Naturepedic. I awkwardly “tried” Leesa and Beautyrest in stores like Crate & Barrel and West Elm because I happened to be there.

And I’ve been inundated with ads from Sleep On Latex, Latex for Less, PlushBeds, Wright Mattresses, etc.

Not sure where we go from here. Unfortunately, we don’t have time to go try out a bunch of beds again. And that seems pointless anyway if the mattress you receive is going to feel completely different at home.
