Don’t know anyone who will appreciate this vinyl purchase

This isn’t officially released until tomorrow, but it got delivered today! I thought it might show up next week some time. The sea blue vinyl is nice, like a translucent teal. I hope it sounds good - it’s released by Real Gone Music whose records tend to be well pressed.
14 record stores in East London collaborated for an event today called The Dig. ome had DJs and special drops or guest sellers, some were giving away free beer and tote bags.
We r&b vinyl collectors know the r&b gems can be few and far between at these things, but I managed to snap up some goodies. It was fun trying to drop in on some favourite stores as well as less familiar ones but tough in today’s heat. I covered 10 out of the 14 stores.
I’ve listened through the full album a couple of times now. She said this was a more uptempo summer album and I can confirm this is accurate ✅ It sounded great whilst walking in the sunshine this morning.
I enjoyed it overall but I think this album is more of a grower whereas Obsidian was an instant classic. Unfortunately it does lose steam halfway through, before picking up again towards the end.
The issue for me is the downtempo / slower vibey songs from the midpoint are simply not as good as the ones on Obsidian or The Only Love We Know EP.
If she had swapped out some of those songs, especially for Can We Do This Over, Feels Like Home, Calm Waters, this album would have been another surefire winner with no skips
I work for a big holding company that owns three subsidiary companies, all of us are located in the same building. I used to work for one of the subsidiaries, but moved to a new role at HQ earlier this year.
I was working with Company #2 (pun intended) on a pitch. Those meetings were intense with a lot of people and loud voices. When I’d try to speak, their CEO wasn’t very respectful; she’d give me a death stare that read “why are you talking?”, shush me or tell me she’d “rather hear from subject matter experts.” (FYI - I was a “subject matter expert”; the topic in question was related to what I worked on in my previous role.)
So since then, every time I need to take a huge shit in the office, I climb 3 flights of stairs to use the toilets on the 4th floor - that CEO’s company’s floor. It does great things for my daily steps. It’s been 4 months.
The last couple of weeks, I’ve been working on a pitch with Company #1 - where I used to work. I don’t know that CEO well as she joined as I was leaving. It was a last minute scramble approaching the deadline, and boy was CEO stressed. I heard she was a nightmare to everyone. I was pulled into meetings to go over the part I led, and got the brunt of her frustrations. “I fucking need something that makes fucking sense!” she barked at me about something that made perfect sense until she changed things around. “Can you get me someone who knows what they’re fucking talking about?” (TBF I had fumbled an answer to her question about something else because I was done giving her energy to find the right answer.)
So guess where I’m going now for my gastronomic evacuation? Yes - the 2nd floor where I used to work. It’ll be nice to bump into old colleagues before and after blowing up her bowls.
I’m yet to work closely with Company #3. Their CEO seems nice, but they’re on the 5th floor so my step count would love that.
Between the two trailers, we’ve seen quite a bit of Peru / Lost Valley and T-Rex, and now a few glimpses of Greece, Egypt, Qualopec, Larson and Natla.
Other than level designs, what’s left? I guess Pierre and everything Atlantis: the design, Atlanteans, Doppelgänger, Atlantean Natla? I really hope Atlantis is more of a TR1 unsettling fleshy horror show than TRA’s generic concrete and metal fortress.
What’s everyone excited to see? And would you rather it’s saved for in-game discovery or revealed in the run-up?
I know it just came out a couple of days ago but wondering anyone has any tea from it? Is there any??
I listened to a 5 minute sample of the audiobook and have to say I struggled through even that 🥱
The R&B racks are full in Reckless Records today! These are the OG R&B LPs they currently have, so I’m sharing here as a heads up in case anyone wanted to snap them up (they weren’t for me).
They also have a lot of brand new & sealed represses / new releases in stock for quite good prices:
- Usher - Confessions (£25)
- Jennifer Lopez - JLO (£25)
- Brownstone - From The Bottom Up (£25)
- Lady Wray - Cover Girl (£20)
- D’Angelo - Voodoo (£25)
- Toni Braxton - The Heat (£25)
- Toni Braxton - Secrets (£25)
- Joyce Rice - Overgrown (£90)
Vinyl back in stock on her website!
Must have found some lying about in the back of her trunk!
HEADS UP: Flashback Records in London have listed a flurry of 90s R&B gems over the last few days. They currently have:
- Waiting To Exhale Soundtrack
- Monica - Miss Thang
- Joe - All That I Am
- Jade - Jade To The Max (OG copy)
- Eternal - Always & Forever (OG copy)
- Donell Jones - My Heart
- Boyz II Men - Evolution
- SWV - New Beginning
- SWV - It’s About Time
- Jodeci - The Show, The After Party, The Hotel
- Jodeci - Diary Of A Mad Band
- Horace Brown - Horace Brown
They’re all on their online store, or in their Shoreditch and Crouch End stores. They’re all VG or G+, so not quite the best condition but should play OK for anyone keen to add some grails to their collection. (Note their gradings are sleeve condition first, then the record condition)
I’d have snapped up the Joe album but I’ll hold on for a copy in better condition.
Selling all 4 for £100, release date of August 7th.
Just spotted a VG+ copy of Soul For Real’s first album Candy Rain from 1995. It’s in Jelly Records in Clapton, London. I’ll pass but it seems like a great find for someone else, so I thought I’d give a heads up and hope a fellow Redditor goes and snaps up this rare LP with my love and kind regards.
It was £60 which seems like a good price; it’s sold for a lot more than that on Discogs and there’s only one copy on sale there currently for $200.
I promise this is the last post I will create about this release! To recap:
- EV3 by En Vogue was announced on forest green vinyl for Record Store Day. First time ever on vinyl with Japan bonus tracks.
- UK release was cancelled because the record label didn’t press enough; it became a US release only.
- Record label confirmed they are repressing it later this year but without the bonus tracks.
Nonetheless, I went for it anyway because the bonus tracks make this release for me, plus there’s no guarantee if and when a repress might come. So the second that RSD releases went on sale online in the US I snapped this up. It wasn’t easy as most either had sold out in-store already or wouldn’t ship to the UK. But Yellow Racket records in Chattanooga, Tennessee came through!
In the end it cost me about £15 more with shipping than most UK stores had been listing this for before it got cancelled. So glad to have this in my collection.
