Struggling with CA finish

I've been practicing my CA finish technique based on numerous videos I've watched. I've tried medium, thin, and extra thin, but I'm struggling to get it right. The coats of medium always seem to leave bubbles and the tin and extra thin sheets flash off so fast that I can't get it even.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Rotary chuck

I have a Acmer p1 s pro with a 20w diode. I tried ordering the Acmer m4 rotary, but they sent me an email that they are out of stock and probably will be for quite some time.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a rotary with a chuck that will work with my laser?

Better lathe stand

I have a rockler 1224 midi lathe. The stand that goes with it shakes like crazy whenever I try to make anything slightly of balance, it anything in balance that is more than about 8 inches in diameter.

I have anchored the stand to the floor and added angled steel bracing that is bolted from the top of the stand down into the concrete floor, but it still shakes quite a bit.

Is there anything else I can try, or is there a better stand that will work?

Wood and resin

Does anyone have, or it know of, a comprehensive guide to casting wood and resin for wood turning?

I am looking for the differences in types of resin and how they react with wood, and whether or not stabilization is really necessary. Could I just heat the wood in an oven until the the moisture is low enough before pouring and using a pressure pot?

Also, what types of resin turn the best?

I've been watching Jake Thompson on YouTube, and he seems to exclusively use Alumilite polyester resin because of its turning properties and clarity, but warms about moisture in the wood.

I've only turned a couple of pen blanks made of aquabright resin and I find it to be very grabby and easily chipped, even with the lightest touch with my carbide tools.

I have a bunch of small off cuts that I would like to utilize and since I already have a pressure pot, I thought that I might give resin casting a go, but I'm a bit overwhelmed with all of the, sometimes conflicting, information out there.

Dust hose

I've seen some videos where a word turner has a dust collector hose that is rigid enough to position in place when you need it and push it out if the way when not needed. It bends and stays in place without a bracket or clamp of any type.

Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where I can find one of these? Does anyone use them and have recommendations on which ones are good?

Thanks

Update

Thanks to u/tedthedude I decide to purchase the loc-line with a couple fittings

Thank you to all that made suggestions

Jig ideas?

Is anyone using their laser to cut out jigs for other hobbies?

I am a wood turner. I like to make segmented pieces, so I used lightburn to make wedges for a wedgie sled yesterday. They work great.

Just looking for inspiration for other jigs that might be useful.

Thanks in advance.

Not sure what to call this

Had a few(very punky) spalted birch branch sections. I decided, since it's full of bug holes, to make a vessel to place a small battery powered light inside. I didn't have the light yet, but here is the finished vessel. Not sure what the other wood is.... Just a random firewood chunk from a friend.

Fume extraction

Can anyone give me any tips on suitable diy fume extraction?

I have an Acmer p1 s pro diode that I plan to make an enclosure for, but I need to know how much air I need to move to to get rid of smoke so that I can set it up inside and vent out of a window.

Would a 12 volt computer fan be enough?

Set of miniature urns

Just finished up this set of miniature urns for a friend who lost their dog. They will be splitting the ashes into the smaller ones for the three of them and placing the rest into the larger one.

Today's work

Here is a lidded vessel of hard maple and padauk.

Not fully finished yet (might reshape the finial), but I think it's going well.

Any suggestions for a finish? I was thinking wipe on poly to make it shiny, but I'm not sure yet

Favorite hollowing tool?

Looking for recommendations for a good style of hollowing tool for how forms with a small opening.

Probably a swan neck with a carbide cutter or an easily sharpened tool steel insert cutter.

I was looking at the Sorby Hollow Master but I want to see what the hive mind can tell me first.

Thanks in advance.

Laser pecker lp1 plus

Does anyone have experience with this machine? I'm looking for a laser that is suitable for hardwood.

I am a wood worker/wood turner who uses lots of hard words(some exotics). I'm in need of a machine that I can set up to engrave my logo on the bottom of bowls and vases without breaking the bank.

Some of the bowls/vases will be too tall for a fully enclosed laser.

Also, this unit is on sale right now. So, that's a plus.

Question about adding a logo to turned pieces

I was looking into branding irons, but then I'm limited to the size of the brand.

I was wondering if anyone uses stamps with ink. Would the stamp wear off? I have seen that some turners/woodworkers sign their work with a sharpie or something similar, but I would like something that's going to be the same every time.

Can't really justify the cost of a laser.

I just want to make sure that whatever I use, that I can hold up on food bowls as well as non food items.

I'm currently just burning my initials into the bottom with my wood burning kit, but I'm not very skilled with it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Small bowl

Little decorative bowl from some very spalted birch. Very full of bug holes. I had no idea the spalt was in there. Was from a log given to me from a friend who had it in his basement for over 10 years

2 New pens today

The Green one is the psi majestic fountain pen in gun metal with a green stabilized maple Burl. I swapped the nib for a Jowo fine tip in gold.

The second one is the psi Gatsby with a natural color maple stabilized Burl.
