Question regarding idle sound (170k km): Toyota 1NR-FE (1.3 Yaris)

Hi everyone.

I have a Toyota Yaris with the 1NR-FE engine (170,000 km). I have noticed a specific sound while idling, mainly right after a cold start. As the engine reaches operating temperature, this sound decreases or becomes much less noticeable.

I would like to know if this is a typical characteristic of this engine block at this mileage. I am attaching a video so you can hear it. My main question is whether this sound is part of the normal operation of the fuel injectors and the injection system in this model, or if it is something I should consider looking into regarding the timing chain system.

I appreciate any experiences you might have with this engine.

Thanks for your comments and wish you a nice weekend!

Subaru Impreza III Auto: Can I install a "Manual" radiator since my OEM doesn't have built-in ATF cooler ports?

The Car: Subaru Impreza III (GH) 2.0, Automatic Transmission.

The Issue: The upper plastic inlet neck on my radiator just snapped off completely due to old, brittle plastic. I pulled the old radiator out, and I noticed it does not have the two small ATF cooler lines at the bottom. My car has an external/top-mounted transmission cooler.

I'm looking at aftermarket replacements (Nissens) and I have two choices:

Option 1: The "Manual Transmission" Radiator. Physically, this looks like a 1:1 exact match to my broken OEM radiator. It has a flat bottom tank with no extra ports.

Option 2: The "Automatic" Radiator. This one has the built-in oil cooler ports at the bottom, but it comes with rubber caps to plug them up if they aren't used.

My Question: > Even though my car is an Automatic, should I just buy the "Manual" radiator since it perfectly matches the one I just pulled out? Will the cooling capacity for the engine be exactly the same? I want to avoid using rubber caps if I don't have to, especially for the strict vehicle inspections here in Switzerland (MFK).

Thanks in advance for the help!

Subaru Impreza 2.0 2010

Hello everyone,

I am doing the distribution of a Subaru (first time) and I bought the Gates Distribution kit, with waterpump and all pulleys. I am trying to set the timing, and that is what I have got, it all in position for you or should I send it like that?

Thanks for your help and a good weekend to you all!

Weekend trip with Yaris 2013

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to share a picture from the 380 km weekend trip I took with my car. It has 167,000 km on it and still drives really well. I'm very happy with it!

Wish you all a nice start of the week!

TOYOTA YARIS 2013 XP13 1.33 CVT

Hey everyone,

I drive a 2013 Yaris 1.33 equipped with the K411 CVT, and I'm dealing with a transmission issue that has me stumped. I'm hoping someone here might have some insight.

I was experiencing some issues under load in the manual mode ( in Drive works perfectly, even when it is warm).

Because of that, I recently had the CVT belt and both pulleys completely replaced.

Here is the weird part: after the repair, the car drives perfectly (in manual mode) for the first 20 km (about 12 miles) on the road. However, once I pass that mark—presumably when the transmission gets fully up to operating temperature—the RPMs start fluctuating and varying again whenever the transmission is under load.

Has anyone experienced this specific behavior with the K411 CVT? Since the physical belt and pulleys are brand new, could this be a valve body issue, a failing solenoid, or something related to the fluid temperature?

Any advice on what to diagnose next would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
