The Downsides of immigrating

So my wife and i just made our second immigration. We moved from Atlanta, GA to Reading, UK in April of 2015. We packed up, left our family and our entire support structure beyond for career opportunites and the ability to see other places in the world. Cue our first christmas in the UK, we were sitting in our flat staring at eachother watching movies on BBC.

What people dont talk about is the immense loneliness of immigrating. We couldnt afford to go home for the holidays and the few friends we made where spending it with their families. We had each other and we travelled but it was rough going. Finally, fast forward 6 years, after trying and failing we finally got a decent group of friends, survived covid, watched some of them become parents, and celebrated as most of us turned 40 together. Now here we are in 2026, after 11 years in the UK and getting UK Citizenship, my wife and i decided to move to Ireland. We originally moved to the UK for EU citizneship, then the brits decided it wasnt good enough for them anymore and got out. England was never our forever home so we moved for greener pastures.

So here we are 3 months in, and we are back to square one. No community, no friends, and lonely as can be again. The friends we spent over half a decade making in the UK have all but forgotten our exsistence even after 3 months.

Immigrating has been the best decision in my life, ive seen things and done things i never thought possible. I was the 2nd person in my family to graduate HS and first to get a college degree, so never thought id really leave Atlanta. But fuck me, even having my wife with me, its a very lonely road.

Just wanted to share the experience, and it’s a little theraputic to write it all down.

EDIT: fixed the spelling. Sorry I fight yall my brain didn’t want to comprehend.

Lads, can we start using Transport Huey's the way they are supposed too?

Look,

I havent been playing that long, maybe the past 4 or 5 days. Everytime i play NVA, we wipe the floor, everytime we are USA we get shit on.

Whats the reason? Well NVA has tunnels, fantastic to get around the map and free to use. This gives the NVA a great tool for map control. This seems to be the defining factor in most of these battles.

Now look, the USA has the counter this and the ability to do this as well. THE HUEY, shes a dog, but shes loyal and powerfull. It seems in the games, as soon as the match starts the transport huey's get loaded and squads get dropped off, thats about it. You might get them used in orbital patterns with MG fire. What we need to be doing is coordination with squads and squad leaders. when capping a point you can easily move 2 squads to back lines or flanks of the enemy and drop them in. They can setup OP/Garrison w/e. Why are we not doing this on the USA side? Just takes a little bit of communcation!

If you want to see this in action go watch the movie We Where Soliders.

TL;DR: USA USE YOUR GODDAMNED CHOPPERS TO MOVE TROOPS THROUGH OUT THE GAME!

Contract work in ireland, where to look?

I work as a day rate contractor and looking to pickup some fractional work or just another gig in general in the cloud space.

All ready live in ireland, dont need sponroship and not looking to move to ireland.

Besides linkedin, which is garbage, what is a good resource to use for contracts in ireland? Failing to find a decent resource.

TIA!

EDIT:

Why am i getting downvoted? Its shitty wording in the middle beacuse the auto mod was trying to flag me for rule 3.
