Stockton Living

I’m considering a job in Stockton but we have no idea what it’s like there. We are a gay married couple, no kids. So an accepting neighborhood is a must. We do want to downsize our home. Currently in 2500 square foot home, 1/2 the size would be nice but not a must. The other half is stay at home dog dad. We aren’t party guys.

What neighborhoods should we avoid? What neighborhoods should we consider?

NRCS - State Reorganization

Has your state scheduled a reorganization reveal yet? We have no idea what it entails.

The afternoon of Aug 5th in my central region state.

Family Elder Duties

I’m not sure what to do or even how to process this.

I grew up in a very Catholic family, in the days of very conservative Pope John Paul II. I don’t practice, for many reasons besides growing up gay in the church.

My dad passed in 2000 and mom in 2025. My sister’s fiancé just asked if I would walk my sister down the aisle in church on her wedding day. He said it would mean a lot to her. He started crying as we talked about it. I know it’s a big deal for my sister to do this for her, especially being the elder son.

I should add that my husband and I live 1600 miles away, in the US.

Should I do this? I’m seriously conflicted.

Edit. I know that some Catholics are welcoming, more so now, as opposed to the 80s. As one person mentioned it’s more psychological. The hate of gays was a lot for me as 8 year old realizing that the church was not that welcoming of me. It was common for me to cry after church. I’m tearing up just writing this. I feel as though I’m going to burn just walking into the church.

Maybe I do need to just buck it up and do this for my family. Maybe practice getting over my anxiety by visiting some local churches. I don’t know.

Catholic Church

I find it interesting that Catholic Churches are closed today, at least according to Google. Growing up, I remember them being open 24/7.

I just want to visit a church. Sit in the back. Remember my mom. Maybe sit with a priest and say nothing. Any options in the city?

NRCS Reorg

The chief’s reorg message states that the SESs will also be realigned. Is this just NHQ SESs, not the CA and TX state conservationist? Based on the way the message was written leads me to think it’s just above states but I’m not sure.

I was curious to see the number of filled SESs at NHQ and notice the National contact us website is limited for scheduled maintenance. Are notifications of management directed reassignments happening? Any heard of any yet?

Home Buying

We are considering a move to Fresno to be closer to family in Bakersfield. I graduated Fresno State in 1996 and really haven’t been back since. We currently live in coastal south Texas.

We are looking to downsize since it’s just the 2 of us, no kids but expect family visiting frequently. We currently have 2400 square feet which is way too big for us. 2 bed 2 bath minimum. No pool. At least a one car garage. Must be a single family home. No HOA.

Tower District seems nice. I’m leary about anything west of the 99. Besides the Tower District, I’m unsure about between the 99 and 41.

Any thoughts, suggestions?

I’m so done.

My supervisor and their staff are just trash. My supervisor is one of the new Schedule Policy positions. They were bad before the change. I get blocked dealing with performance and conduct issues. I can’t even have an honest conversation with my employees because they cry to my supervisor and my supervisor clearly practices favoritism and other ethical issues. No one cares or does a damn thing even though it’s blatant.

I was really hoping the reorganization would strip the organization of the fluff. Instead, those with transferable skills left. Those that stayed either had hope, believing in the agency mission or were too lazy to leave. I’m hoping we get real change with the new schedule employees.
