I keep getting told that I need to learn to compromise
"It's so strange when I get told I have too high of standards because like why would I willingly make my life worse for the sake of a relationship?"
~ quote from Pinterest comments section
I am single and unmarried, and so many people have told me that I need to learn to compromise if I wanna be in a romantic relationship and get married.
But that's the thing. I don't wanna be in a relationship. So why do I need to compromise? 😭 Like, why would I voluntarily make myself miserable?
I might be neurodivergent (unsure, I do think I could have ADHD) and I honestly don't understand why do people make relationships sound so miserable while simultaneously trying to sell them. Like do they think they are sharing pearls of wisdom by telling me to compromise and to settle?
I think we already compromise in other areas of our life. Jobs are a great example of this.
But it's a compromise I'm willing to make because the benefits are worth it (autonomy and financial independence). And we live in a society where we literally need money to survive.
I honestly don't see what's so good about compromising for a romantic relationship. It's not necessary for our well-being. In fact, it can actually be harmful based on my past experiences.
Anyway, everyday I become more at peace with my single life of peace and freedom as I grow older, and people's comments bother me less and less ☺️💜
