Hi all! I wanted to give a quick shout out to the hardworking promotion teams in Times Square!
If you don’t know what I’m talking about, these are people (often aspiring Broadway performers!) out on the mean streets of Times Square handing out flyers for shows to help drive up sales.
This type of advertising may seem innocuous and ineffective (and you wouldn’t be totally wrong), but these people are out there working their butts off for our beloved industry! They’re often standing or on their feet for 5+ hours at a time.
If you happen to pass by one of these promoters (they’ll be in branded gear) I encourage you to do the following:
TAKE A FLYER! Many of these promoters actually have a certain quota for the day they need to meet. You can do whatever you want with the flyer after you take it (keep it, trash it, use it as a bookmark, etc…), it doesn’t matter!
If you are in too much of a rush, or just don’t have the hands for taking one that’s all good, move it along! No need to say “No thank you,” wave your hand, or nod your head. Just keep moving! Can you imagine how it must feel to keep hearing “No” all day long?
I promise these people aren’t here to scam you, they’re just trying to survive in the industry and make money to afford rent! Have a good day everyone!
