Reality check on M&A internship: Is it normal to mostly do sourcing, research, and pitch decks?

Hey everyone,

I’m currently about two weeks into my M&A internship (Corp Dev), and I just wanted to get a reality check from people who have been through similar internships.

For context: I'm a rising sophomore at a semi-target.

My day-to-day so far has mostly consisted of making pitch decks, sourcing, researching, and a fair amount of doomscrolling. I always keep seeing other kids in my network talking about getting "crazy deal reps" and massive hands-on deal experience right out of the gate, which always confused me.

Don't get me wrong, I’m still really glad to have this role. It's giving me insanely solid foundational experience, and I'm learning a lot on the small necessary skills for later interviews (attention to detail, how to properly format and send a good email, etc.).

I just want to make sure my "quality of work" here isn't lacking compared to what others are actually getting. I'm pretty sure this is the norm and I'm just tripping, but I'd love to hear some thoughts from this sub.

  • A) Is this normal? Are most early internships like this, or am I missing out on heavier technical work?
  • B) How can I maximize this role? What should I realistically try to get out of this experience so I can best leverage it for internships for M&A/IB interviews down the line?
  • C) What were your internships actually like? I'd love to hear some honest perspectives on what your day-to-day was (actual hours worked, meaningful tasks vs. busywork) compared to the usual larp on linkedin

IB/MBB Consulting Recruiting (Incoming Soph Transfer)

Had couple questions regarding this process:

  1. How competitive are the clubs for sophomores? Are they more likely to accept you as an incoming freshman? Just wanted to see where I stand.

I was most interested in VIC, CCG, FDP, and Vandy SCNO. Anyone able to share more info on the process and expected technical prep timeline?

  1. Hows the overall resume look for recruiting purposes, dont really know how well Vandy recruits for major firms. Have an interested in healthcare M&A because thats what my resume is aligned with.

Roast My Resume - Sophomore at Semi-Target (IB)

Finalizing my resume before 2028 IB apps and sophmore internships.

  1. How good is the corporate development internship I landed for myself and recruiting? Nervous since it's for such a short duration but I figured I'd be able to spin a great narrative for recruiting/interviewing.

  2. Will a health-care IB focused resume lead to higher hit results for networking/coffee chats?

  3. Any advice on what and where to go from next would be great, actively trying to recruit and make the most of my current internship.

All replies are welcome, feel free to be harsh and if you need help yourself feel free to dm me and we'll set up a call. I'm not cracked by any means, just slightly average (so many resumes here are better than mine, kinda insane lol)

E1 vs S1 - read description for context

Have guaranteed, 0 pity.

Team Comp - E2S1 Sparxie, E0S1 S99, add yao, add H2

Do you guys think its better to grab E1 or S1 in this teams case?

Context: My Sparxie has 134 speed, S99 has 201, and Yao WILL (key word) have 201 as long as I grab her S1.

This teams, with S1, I can have perfect speed tuning which is broken for elation team....

The issue is.... her e1 is also insanely op! Should I whale for both? Is that worth it?
