I'm an incoming UPD engineering freshman planning to shift to Industrial Engineering after my first year.
My current program's first-semester curriculum has 21 units. Aside from being a pretty heavy load for a freshman, five of those units come from courses that won't be credited toward IE if I successfully shift.
Luckily, I was granted all my other courses during pre-enlistment except for those 5 units (Chem). How risky is it to continue with a lighter load instead of trying to complete all 21 units?
My thinking is that having fewer units might let me focus on maintaining a high GWA and building a stronger profile for shifting. On the other hand, I'm worried about the risks of shifting in general, and taking fewer units that could somehow hurt my chances of shifting.
I'd really appreciate any advice or experiences.
Hi! I'm currently an engineering student in UPD who's planning to shift to IE. I've already read the primer, and I'm aware of the minimum GWA and MSWA requirements. I wanted to ask about the things that aren't really stated there.
I'd especially love to hear from successful IE shiftees and those who attempted to shift, but I'd also appreciate insights from current IE students or anyone in UPD who's familiar with the shifting process.
I'd also love to hear any general advice or tips you'd give to someone hoping to shift.
Thank you so much in advance!

Hello! I'm currently set for UPD. To all Iskas and Iskos at UPD who've finished or are finishing the first year, how did it go? What things would you have done differently? Can you share your experiences (and general background, if possible)? I appreciate different answers in different aspects (academic, social, cultural, lifestyle ...) What would you say to someone who's about to go to college pa? Thank you, and have a great day ahead!
I'm planning on pursuing a BS in Industrial Engineering at UPD. I passed, but my first choice at the time was Mining Eng. I'm not really the type to hyperfixate on a certain area or field; rather, I love overlooking and am quite obsessed with making sure everything is done efficiently.
My concern is IE's broad and flexible nature, and I heard that it's best to specialize. How do I maximize the four years I have in college to gain an edge as an IE? How do I keep momentum after graduation and increase my value even more?
I've heard of specializing early on, utilizing projects, experience, and internships during college, and training and certifications after graduation (and while working), but I only know the gist of it. I'd really appreciate a breakdown on what these really mean, and what more is there for an IE apart from the mentioned above. Thank you and have a great day ahead!
Hello! I want to hear your thoughts about the decision I'll make. USC isn't a bad school for IE, and I heard you're secured and covered by the institution in terms of career after graduating. But I'm also leaning more toward UPD dahil sa prestige and since feel ko worth it naman ang possibility na ma delay ng one year if it means I'll be working in MNL, obviously more progressive than Cebu. I'll still try mag Appeal for IE.
