IEM ECE vs UEM CSE Data Science for Masters Abroad

I’m currently getting ECE at IEM Salt Lake and CSE with specialization in Data Science at UEM, and I’m really confused about which one would be the better option if my goal is to pursue Masters abroad in the future, especially in countries like Germany or other European countries.

I’m more interested in the tech/data science field, but IEM also has a stronger reputation overall, so I’m finding it difficult to decide. I’d really appreciate honest opinions regarding academics, placements, coding culture, research opportunities, internships, GPA pressure, and overall profile-building for MS applications abroad.

Also, if anyone from IEM or UEM is planning for Masters abroad especially Germany please text me or comment below. I’d genuinely love to connect and talk about the process, opportunities, and overall experience.

Help me !!!!!!!!! Please!!! Confused Between UEM CSE Data Science, Techno India CSE Data Science, and IEM ECE Which Would Be Better for Placements, Career Growth, and Future Opportunities Abroad?

I’m currently getting offers for B.Tech CSE (Data Science) from University of Engineering & Management (UEM) and Techno India University / Techno Main Salt Lake, while I’m getting ECE from Institute of Engineering & Management (IEM).

I’m really confused about which option would be the best overall in terms of placements, faculty, career growth, academics, exposure, fees, and long-term opportunities. My main interest is towards software and Data Science related fields, but I also want to keep future opportunities open, especially for higher studies abroad.

I also wanted to know — if I take ECE at IEM instead of CSE Data Science, would I still be able to shift into software/Data Science later for jobs or for a Master’s abroad? Can an ECE student pursue a Master’s in Data Science or related software fields abroad and still build a strong career in tech?

Considering all these aspects, which option would be the better choice overall?

Am I About to Make a Horrible College Decision?

I’m getting CSE with Data Science specialization in both Techno Main Salt Lake and UEM, and I’m honestly a little confused about which one to choose.

From what I’ve understood so far, Techno Main seems to have a stronger overall reputation and public perception, which is why many people are recommending it over UEM. But at the same time, UEM also offers a CS-related branch that aligns with my long-term goals in software/data science.

One thing I genuinely want to understand is why UEM receives so much criticism online. Is it mainly because of strict rules and campus culture, or are there actual academic/placement concerns behind it? I’ve seen very mixed opinions everywhere, so I’m trying to understand the reality in a balanced way before making a decision.

Also, I’m getting ECE in IEM as well. Considering placements, future opportunities, and the possibility of pursuing Data Science later on, do you think choosing ECE at IEM would be a better option?

I’d really appreciate an honest perspective from someone who knows about these colleges.

Is UEM Actually That Bad ?

I really need an unbiased opinion from you. Irrespective of personal preferences, could you honestly tell me which option you genuinely think would be best for my future?

I’ve been feeling really confused and helpless about this decision, so your honest guidance would truly mean a lot to me.

Please rescue me from my own decisions

I’m in a really confusing situation regarding college and branch selection, and I genuinely need some honest advice from people who know the industry better than I do.

So basically, I’m very interested in the data science / analytics side of computer science. I can genuinely see myself working in fields related to data science, machine learning, business analytics, fintech, or companies that combine CS with data-focused work in the future. I enjoy the idea of working with data, coding, problem-solving, and tech-oriented roles much more than core electronics.

Now the issue is this:

I’m getting ECE at Institute of Engineering and Management (IEM Salt Lake), and on the other hand, I’m getting CSE with Data Science specialization at University of Engineering & Management (UEM).

The problem is that I honestly don’t feel much interest toward electronics and communication. Digital circuits especially don’t excite me that much. I know ECE is a respected and versatile branch, but I’m scared of ending up studying subjects for 4 years that I don’t actually enjoy.

At the same time, IEM has a stronger reputation overall in Kolkata, better brand recognition, and probably better placement exposure compared to UEM, which is what’s making this decision difficult for me.

So my confusion is:

- Should I choose the better-known college but compromise on branch?
- Or should I choose the branch that actually aligns with my interests and future goals, even if the college reputation is slightly lower?

I’ve also heard mixed opinions like:
- “Branch matters more in the long run.”
- “College matters more for placements.”
- “You can still go into tech from ECE.”
- “Data Science specializations are sometimes just marketing.”

And honestly, all of that has made me even more confused.

My long-term goal is probably working in tech/data-oriented companies rather than core electronics roles. I also might consider pursuing higher studies or opportunities abroad later, so I’m trying to think practically and not just emotionally.

Would genuinely appreciate advice from seniors, people in tech, or anyone who has faced a similar dilemma.
