I’m 18 and looking to take a gap year after my studies and wanted to find some work. I’ve applied to cinemas, supermarkets, pubs, stores etc. and I’ve had no luck.

After my exams are fully over I was planning on going in person and handing my CV out but I’m hearing mixed opinions online with some people saying don’t bother it goes straight to the bin or that they ask you to just apply online. I’m wanting to work somewhere where I can work lots of hours especially early in the morning or late at night such as Mcdonald’s or Cinemas but unfortunately been rejected.

Does anyone have any advice? Any suggestions or personal experiences are greatly appreciated.

it’s confusing seeing my profile have only a half of the karma i got from a recent post. i’ve seen people talk about how there’s an algorithm but why does reddit do this? isn’t it easier to just do it 1:1 what’s the point 🤷‍♀️

i’m not staying up late or pulling all nighters but i just get very sleepy and love to nap. this habit doesn’t really let me revise effectively so to stay awake i normally have energy drinks. during GCSEs i only did this half way through my exams so i was fine but i was wondering what would happen if i accidentally had too many and i was hospitalised? would i be allowed to sit my exams (i don’t want to get my last mock results as my final grades 😭) im just asking hypothetically. its probably unlikely i would consume enough for anything to happen.

i’ve had iphones for the past 6 years of my life and i think im finally done with them. for context i got the iphone 13 less than 2 years ago and my phone keeps randomly switching off whenever it has less than 10% but now i can have 40/50% and it will randomly turn off and when i try to turn it back on it doesn’t fully load off the loading screen and turns back off again until i put it back on charge but then on charge will show 50% battery. i checked and my phone is at 63% maximum battery health which is shocking as i got the phone in june 2024. my previous iphone 11 also had really poor battery health during the end but i accepted as i had that phone for longer but the battery life of iphones is honestly just shocking especially when a new iphone comes out

im now thinking abt getting another phone i would preferably like a pink one with good battery life and camera quality on social media apps like snapchat instagram and tiktok. i was thinking about the google pixel 9 and was open to any suggestions or experiences from people who’ve switched from apple to another brand and if they recommend it or find that they have similar experiences with either company.

i'm going to be starting my first year of uni this september and i'm still waiting to hear back from warwick (econ) but i have a feeling i wont receive an offer.

my next choice after would be bristol (econ and finance) and i was wondering how much of an impact there is between the two unis when wanting to break into ib.

i have the option of going into clearing for gsd at warwick or taking a gap year but would appreciate if anyone had any advice. im predicted to get A*A*A likely to get A*AA and worst case scenario is ABB but that would still allow me to get into gsd warwick / bristol econ and finance.

i would only take a gap year to reapply if i had 3A* achieved.
