So my mom is from Sto. Domingo Nabua but I practically grew up in Manila then later moved to the states when I was a teenager.

At home and among my mom’s side of the family, I’ve always been used to hearing rinconada. at the time i just assumed that bicolano is just a monolith language that everyone from the bicol region understands. it wasn’t until i was an adult and met other bicolanos in the states and other parts of the philippines that I realized the standard bicolano like from Naga is actually almost incomprehensible to me😭

when i asked my mom about she said it’s true that our bicolano is different from the rest but everyone can at least get by and somewhat understand each other even if they’re from different towns. idk if it’s just because i’m not THAT fluent in rinconada/bicolano but whenever i hear other bicolanos talk like on a podcast or on social media, i swear i could only maybe understand like one word in every sentence. for rinconada (at least within my family/relatives i’d say i understand like at least 85-90%, and i can also hold basic convos)

Fellow corporate slaves of LA, do any of you work a weekend job? or some sort of gig to make some extra cash? i’m not super talented so maybe not something that requires creativity lol
