Russian river tule perch

Russian river tule perch

Tule perch are the only subspecies of freshwater surfperch and are endemic to California. There are three subspecies of these fish, the sacramento tule perch which mostly resides in the sacramento and san Joaquin rivers and the delta, the clear lake tule perch which is endemic to clear lake, and the Russian river tule perch shown here which is endemic to the Russian river. The three look quite distinct with the Russian river and clear lake tule perch having more yellow blotches compared to the sacramento subspecies

Sacramento perch I caught today

Shoutout to u/akkavvadrre for pointing me to this population. For the uninitiated, these are the only native sunfish to California but have become endangered due to the introduction of other sunfishes.

White crappie and spotted/alabama bass near Sacramento California

The bass is a bit of a weird one because it could technically be either alabama bass or spotted bass. As it turns out alot of the “spotted bass” that were introduced to california were actually alabama bass. I honestly cant really be bothered to scale count it rn but maybe another time
