Finally got a decent Red drum

Almost took me under the boat. It had me wrapped around a stump one point in the fight and we had to move the boat to get it out. Thankfully it was still on, We also forgot the net so that was very challenging. Can’t complain very blessed.

Another sunfish I pulled in northern NJ, this one on the chunky side

Just a well fed bluegill? It slid off the hook, sorry… I know that’s not good.

What species?

Are these pure bluegill or coppernose? I wonder because they have a fully orange belly.

Sorry for bad photo 😢

Collection of my Favorite Recorded Catches (2021-2026)

Been fishing all my life, but it wasn't until 2021 that I discovered that not every panfish was a "bluegill." The vast majority of these were caught throughout NC spanning mountains to coast and all over the piedmont in-between. #1 was the first time I realized that I had caught a "funny looking bluegill with a big long ear and a larger mouth."

To this day, other than carp, the humble sunfish is my favorite fresh water fish to chase after on light tackle and little flies, especially when you get your hands on a dandy. My next project is to find and refurbish an old paw and click fly reel and get my grandad's old fiberglass fly rod set up and catch some fish out of the creeks he probably fished as a kid with his dad.

Large Coppernose Bluegill

On the 1/16 oz black rooster tail, which has been nailing the bigs of every species for me the last several months

This is a Greengill appreciation post ❗️🗣💯

I found a secluded pond in public land absolutely loaded with undersized greengill. Somewhat disappointing haul but at least these little guys were gorgeous

Luck, or else?

(Sorry for the long story? 🤷🏽)

Almost never I tie a jig like this due to vegetation , i did 2 of cast on a fluke on TRig and the fluke nose broke so a discarded it. water was really murky but the sun was strong enough to pierce thru, then i decided to throw a golden flake style of that very same bait, all this while inspecting what colors stands out from the water i saw some bluegills & shade of turtles and thought… I couldn’t quite see their colors but i could saw their shade and how the sun made the bluegills a little darker and not brighter. So tie that shad / dark color l.
Saw a little bass and i did a terrible cast that landed behind and kind of far of the bass next time i went to look for the bass and he was gone. While working my bait the next second I felt that thumb and “ FISH ON” the bass went for it and i didn’t even get to see it 😎🔥✌🏽

4 mins later while leaving cast it again to a deeper side, while working it back bum 💥 1st and bigges shell cracker ive ever seen !!

All this in less than 15mins 🤣✌🏽 so you guys think that was luck or that im finally learning how to read the environment in this particular case to improve my catches ??
