Rented a 2026 limited GC for a 10 day trip. Check engine light came on on day 1

When picking up the rental the agent mentioned they had a brand new 2026 GC and I thought, perfect thats what we have at a home. COMPLETELY forgetting the 26 model year now has that GARBAGE 4 cylinder. We have the 25 4x4 limited L that still has the 6 cyl.

This vehicle was so awkward to drive. Terrible at keeping up with traffic when traffic heavy, the sport mode comes on somewhat uncontrollably. So you're either going nowhere or shooting like a bullet....Vehicle had 900 miles when I picked up up. 20 minutes from our Airbnb, after driving about 200 miles, the check engine light came on.

Started reading about this happening in so many of the 2026 models and pretty sure it was the spark plug situation as it started to idle pretty rough after this. Had to drive an hour the next morning to exchange it and ended up with a new blazer that was honestly a dream. STAY AWAY FROM THE 2026 GRAND CHEROKEE with the 4 cylinders!

Upcoming California trip questions

I have an upcoming family trip to California, first day we land in Los Angeles rather early and we're planning on visiting Venice Beach and Santa Monica Pier, going into Beverly hills and towards the Griffith observatory before heading towards Joshua tree where we will be spending the first couple of nights.

I've read about the sketchy parts of LA to stay out of such as skid row,Compton South La etc.

my biggest question is; should I worry about the valuables in the vehicle while we are parked and visiting Venice/ Santa Monica areas? I've heard there's a lot of vehicle break-ins and would hate for all our possessions to be stolen before making it to the hotel.

It's a 10-day trip we will be venturing into Disneyland/ Universal studios/La Zoo/Laguna with Palm springs as the home base after the first couple of nights at Joshua tree.

Any tips and advice would be highly recommended thank you in advance.

UPDATE: Rearranged the trip after the suggestions in the comments. Replaced the LA zoo with the aquarium of the Pacific and gave Venice/Santa Monica it's own day. Definitely staying in Anaheim possibly 2 nights between the Universal/Disney/Laguna day. Also have a few days staying closer to Palm springs like Big Bear Lake and the Desert zoo/botanical gardens.

Thank you for your insights.

Draco a.k.a Randy Savage

This is Our 2nd dragon after losing our 1st over a year ago . Little guy loves his food, not crazy about beiing held. 1st time I held him outside he dove off my hand and ran for it, thought I'd lost him. Never seen a beardy make an escape attempt like that!

He attacks his veggies with the same enthusiasm as the crickets/roaches.
