Current quality?

I've been driving GCs for 30+ years and just assumed I'd get another one when my current one (2017 Altitude) is ready to be replaced. I'm rethinking that now, though. I took mine in for some supsenion work (routine after 100k miles) and the mechanic told me that quality has gone way down post-Stellantis. Does anyone have feedback on this? If I do get another GC, it sounds like I should avoid the air suspension. I've also heard of issues with the 4xe. About thoughts on the turbo 4 cylinder? That just seems like one more thing to go wrong - it would be great if they would start offering the 6 cylinder again in higher trim versions.

Things to look out for approaching 100k

I have an '18 Limited Sterling with ~92k miles. I have heard some horror stories about these Jeeps when they get up in age. I have been keeping up with maintenance, changing the oil every 3k miles, replacing wear and tear parts (wheel bearings, brakes, pulleys, serpentine belts, etc.) I tow a 4000LB enclosed trailer on weekend trips in the summer ranging from 200-600 mile round trips in the summers. I'm just worried about something driven by the serpentine belt going and I am stuck on the highway with my trailer.

I have a fairly good extended warranty that covers a majority of the components. Including both the OEM items mentioned below.

So far I have had two OEM components go.

- TCCM Computer - Was throwing codes, bought a knock off replacement from Amazon for $100 issue resolved

- AC Blower Fan - Died last week, $40 part. Easy fix.

I just purchased new shocks as well. Which will be installed this week. (Mechanic recommendation)

Is there anything else I should be prepared for?

2018 Limited Transmission

2018 limited with 108k . Over the weekend I was headed into town and the on the way the started shifting hard and threw a check engine light. Went to auto shop to get checked. P0731 and P0735 were on the list. Drove it home and it shifted fine but was sluggish now won't shift out of 1st. We replaced the filter and pan and thinking the transmission is shot or could be a solenoid. Anyone run into this problem.

Trailhawk or other trim

Hi all.

Ive been interested in getting into off-roading and was looking into GCs, specifically Trailhawks. I want to do some upgrades and mods like a lift, bigger tires, etc. However, I know that the trailhawks have air suspension and most other trims don’t. Is it going to be easier to mod other trims (like a limited) lacking the air suspension? Is a trailhawk still the better bet with all the bells and whistles it comes with? I’ve heard about airlinks and adjusting the ride height as-well, I’m just not sure if I would be better off getting a trim with normal suspension. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know!

2026 Hurricane “Lag”

Love everything about my Grand Cherokee L Summit, except that dead space and time on the pedal. It’s actually difficult to turn from a stop and manage acceleration at times.

Taking it to the dealer Monday to reset the transmission learning and make sure it’s on the latest control software.

I have a Pedal Commander throttle controller on the way. Does anybody have experience on the L turbo Gramd Cherokees with throttle controllers to fix the dead zone?

What do you guys think, I’m a college student and JGC are my dream cars.

This is 6.9k and ofc i would need a car fax or VIN but, the main question is if it looks like a scam off rip? Or any details you’d like to share or tips or opinions!

More details about me it would be my first car, I’m also a tall individual who wants a SUV because of so.

I didn’t post the car picture but it is in perfect shape of appearance so it was no point.

Happy Birthday America the beautiful!

250 years in the making and although the world is constantly in chaos. We don’t always agree with the choices people make. But at least we are free to make those choices! I can’t think of a place I would rather call home than America! From sea to shining sea, I am proud to be an American.

Also where I can buy 2 different type vehicles and always have the right to worry which will break down 1st🤣🫡
God bless America and here 🍺is to another 250 years of freedom! 🇺🇸

Part #’s for 2018 WK2 Limited shocks

Just bought a new to me 2018 4WD Limited. 114K miles on it and the factory non air ride shocks are pretty mushy. We have air ride on my daughter’s 2015 Summit that I drove prior to giving it to her that I really liked in terms of ride feel and handling. I’ve had Bilstein 5100’s on 3 previous trucks that I absolutely loved and would like to get them for the newest WK2 in the stable. Not opposed to 4600’s, however, I can’t find any part numbers for them after ‘15.

Any advice or recommendations for comparable shocks that won’t break the bank? Gratuitous picture of the new ride…

Edit: not really wanting OEM, looking for something comparable to Bilstein aftermarket

2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee CarPlay + iPhone 17 Pro issues – anyone find a real fix?

Hi,

I'm having persistent CarPlay problems with my 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited and an iPhone 17 Pro.

Symptoms:

  • CarPlay becomes very laggy (swiping between apps, Maps refresh, audio controls).
  • Eventually CarPlay disconnects and the Uconnect screen reverts to the generic Jeep phone screen.
  • Sometimes CarPlay won't launch at all and stays on the phone screen.
  • I only use wired CarPlay (the phone is not paired via Bluetooth). Wireless is not available for this model year.

This all started after upgrading from an iPhone 14, which worked almost flawlessly.

Here's what I've already tried:

  • Replaced the USB cable (Apple and Anker never worked reliably; a Beats cable worked for a few months before the problem returned).
  • Cleaned and inspected the USB port and connections.
  • Removed Waze and Google Maps, leaving only Apple Maps.
  • Renamed the iPhone and reset the CarPlay connection.
  • Deleted all phones/Bluetooth settings from the Jeep.
  • Rebooted both the phone and the Uconnect system.
  • Disabled Background App Refresh on the iPhone.

At this point I'm considering a wireless CarPlay adapter. Has anyone had success with one in a 2020 Grand Cherokee? If so, which adapter has been reliable? Reviews seem to be all over the place.

If you've experienced these same symptoms and found a permanent fix, I'd really appreciate hearing what worked.

Thanks!

New owner suggestions

Hello everyone.

Im a new owner to a 2021 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk 3.6l and wondering what the community thinks about possible engine upgrades to maybe have the engine run a little smoother and hopefully last a little longer. Not really worried about serious horsepower performance upgrades.

Suggestions I'm looking for can be as small as what weight oil people have had best success with to as large as upgrading certain engine parts that are prone to early failure. Or just anything to look out for and best maintenance practices that might not be listed in the manual.

Thanks in advance!

Ugh... After 15 years, I received the great gift of the death wobble.

We have an 04 Jeep Cherokee. Ran amazing. Only used it for fun things and chores and whatnot. Kept it in great condition.

Just last week, it happened going over a small bridge on a two lane road.

Now, if I wanted to do this myself, where would I start? When I called up my father, who has a wrangler tha had the infamous 'death wobble' to which he repaired himself, he explained that it may be the tie rod and ball joints.

Where should I start?

Is there DIY material on the web that may be able to walk me through step by step in diagnosing it myself?

Just want to see if I can save a little money and have a project to play around with before I throw in the towel and get a quote from a garage.

Thanks!

How to update the map?

I recently bought a 2017 Trail Hawk. Happy with it so far, although I kinda dread the air suspension going out.

But the map is the current issue. We recently had the map display up while driving across town. I turned onto a section of newish road that was built maybe five years ago. ...and the map showed me driving through open fields with no road.

It had clearly not been updated to reflect new road construction, which is a bit of an issue as I live in an area that has seen some crazy population growth and associated construction over the decade since that car was built.

I have a bit of a road trip coming up next week and it would be nice to use the onboard map rather than google maps on my phone.

How does one get the map to update?

What’s the best mileage range you’ve had displayed in your Jeep?

Currently on a road trip from IL to NJ and I just filled my car up with my range showing 635 miles. Driving a 2021 grand Cherokee.

Pentastar tick

Does anyone know a mechanic near Pittsburgh, PA that will replace the rocker arms and possibly cam shaft. So far no one wants to do the work. They all say ride it till it dies or replace the entire engine.

For context I have a 2015 V6 Jeep Grand Cherokee with about 105,000 miles on it. I believe I caught it early it’s only been ticking a couple months and I’ve been trying not to drive it much.

Any advice would be appreciated.
