2015 limited to 2024 Limited

My 2015 has been totaled. I see this 2024 limited for sale. Has this black out package. I kinda like it. Only thing I don’t like is it has a panoramic sun roof. I’ve heard sun roofs are the worst thing a car can have because they inevitably leak.

Anyways, I’ve had the 2015 for 10 years. I’m the second owner. I bought out a 1 year lease. I’ve loved it and it’s treated me well. Only had to spend a couple hundred here or there every couple years on average. I think I got lucky, really no major problems at all.

That said, as I look up the 2024, I see common issues with the battery randomly draining to 0, electrical problems, and potential transmission issues. And then on 1 site I see it’s rated #10 in the top 10 best mid size SUV of 2024, on another site it doesn’t crack the top 10.

I feel like, sexy as they are, Jeeps are not the most reliable. Should I pass on this 2024? Or is 2024 a good year?

2005 Jeep GC 5.7 Temperature / Thermostat

Hey Guys

Quick question. I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7 thats at about 130k miles. Over the past few weeks, i have noticed my temperature gauge sitting higher than normal. It gets as high as about 12 o'clock, maybe a few ticks below.

Never over.

But still higher than normal. Think normal about 11 oclock?

Nothing has really changed. I do notice a small coolant leak near the Thermostat. Im thinking about gettin a new Jet 180 thermostat. (Last one was put in 2018) Last year, had a new radiator put in along with some new hoses.

You guys think a new T180 and housing will help with the temp? Fans seems to work as they should... and very small leak from around the hose area. (See pic) Months back i slapped some zip ties on it and seems to fix the leak 100 percent. Nothing really changed, but do see that there is small leak at times now.

Any other thoughts?

Air in the system? Not sure how it can magically appear over time?

Was going to check the bleeder valve when replacing the Tstat to stop the leak...

WK2 USB ports - always on?

Hey all, 2020 Altitude here.

So, I finally connected the wireless android auto dongle that I bought like a year ago lol, and it's amazing, works exactly as it should!

But... I have it connected to USB 1 (the two ports below the uconnect in the cubby hole). I noticed that the light on it never goes out, it's always green (connected) or blue (looking for connection).

The way I figured it out is that when I'm getting into the car, my phone connects to the wireless dongle before I even push the start button, then I started looking and sure enough, that USB port appears to be giving power at all times.

Is this for real? Like it's always on no matter what?

What is my solution here, is there a dongle that will allow this powered and data connection but maybe with a switch in the middle so I can turn it off for the night?

Any insight would be great, thanks!

Should I continue fixing the car or consider switching

Hey everyone, I need some honest advice on what you guys would do in my situation with my 2014 Jeep Cherokee.

I’ve had the car for about 3 years now and it’s fully paid off. I bought it around 150k miles, and overall I’ve liked the car, but now the suspension/air ride system is becoming a big issue.

I took it to a mechanic because the rear of the car stopped lifting properly, and they told me the air suspension compressor is very weak and basically overworking itself every time I drive the vehicle. The airbags are pretty much shot too.

Right now I’m considering doing a coil/shock conversion kit instead of replacing the factory air suspension. The conversion is looking like it’ll cost me around $1,600 installed, so I’d have to save up for it. On top of that, I still have some diagnostic codes/issues I need to figure out afterward.

So now I’m stuck wondering:
Is it worth putting more money into this Jeep?
For those of you who’ve done the conversion kit, was it reliable long-term?
Once the air suspension is deleted, do these cars generally hold up okay mechanically?
Or is this the point where you’d stop investing money and move on to another vehicle?

I’m mainly trying to figure out if this is just a temporary headache that’s worth fixing since the car is paid off, or if I’m about to enter a money pit situation.

Would appreciate any opinions, especially from people who’ve owned high-mileage Cherokees or done the air suspension conversion themselves.

tldr: My paid-off 2014 Jeep Cherokee with 150k miles needs an air suspension conversion ($1,600) plus other fixes. Worth repairing, or should I move on before it becomes a money pit?

Extended Warranty on ‘23 Limited with 37k miles?

I *think* it’s a Mopar plan offered by the dealership, will confirm tomorrow because I’m fuzzy on the specifics below:

I think he said 6 years and 100k miles. I know he said it would *end* at 100k total miles. Does that mean it ends when the vehicle is 6 total years old, or 6 years from now?

Not sure on the deductible but total cost including taxes is ~$4,100. I probably drive just under 10k miles per year.

Would you do it?

2021 JGC Laredo, transmission went out yesterday

Hi all,

I have a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo that the transmission went out in yesterday. We bought it new and are out of the powertrain warranty period because of mileage. We’ve had a few small issues like spark plugs, coils and cylinders that have needed replaced a couple of times and we just replaced our radiator and components as well as put new tires and Bosch windshield wipers on. We are at 129,400 and the transmission went out with no warning yesterday while I was driving. My only logical choices are to spend $6,982 to let the dealership replace the transmission and components and warranty it for 3 years/100k miles or to trade it in and no dealership so far has offered us more than $1k in trade in because of the transmission. We owe $5k on the jeep. I’ve read all of the complaints on the NHTSA site and I’m weary about putting $7k into it and then something else breakdown in it quickly like the electrical system or any of the other knuckle and wheel issues that I’ve seen listed. I work once weekly in Atlanta which is 2 hours and 40 min away and then at least 20 minutes in each direction of where I live for my normal job. Is it worth fixing for the warranty and to keep it or should we just trade it in and cut our losses?

New engine?

I’m considering selling my 2015 Grand Cherokee, and getting a new one. 125k, rocker arms done, and right now, not a thing wrong with it. But, it’s now 11 years old, and I live in the rust belt of New Hampshire.
I was just looking at the ‘26, and discovered that it’s only available with a turbo’ed 4 cylinder.!! WFT???
I don’t think I can do it! I might have to go Ford Explorer.

Recall

Recently my phone sent me a me a link to a YouTube video about recalls for 2019 to 2023 Grand Cherokees. They don't say much in the video except that there's power transfer problems and could lead to bigger issues. Anyone on here have their Jeep looked at for these issues or know if it's real? I had a new transmission put in last year at 63,000 miles and got so lucky that I still had warranty but pretty worried if it's real that it could cause more stress on the new one. And I know "take it to a dealership" but I don't really trust them especially after I told many of them that I thought my transmission was going out and they all laughed at me til it actually went out.

TIPM Replacement: DIY or Mechanics

Hello. Need to replace the TIPM on my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo following a no start issue. Mechanic is charging a pretty penny, but the built TIPM I can find for sale for much less. I was wondering if anyone has input if this is something I can replace myself. I’m usually pretty handy but anything with crucial wiring or reprogramming is out of my league.

Thank you! Photo for visibility

Changed the batteries in my 2018

They were originals! Realized my start/stop wasn’t working anymore, and saw that “battery charging” was the reason. Figured I’d get ahead of it. 8 years isn’t too bad on a battery.

No Auto Start/Stop on new ‘25

Just picked up a new 2025 GC Laredo 2 weeks ago. Loving it overall. But the Auto Engine Start/Stop has never worked. It always says the system is unavailable in the cluster.

Now, no major complaints with this system not working but slightly worried it might mean something is wrong with the auxiliary battery. Is it possible the dealer is just disabling this feature altogether?
