Whoever writes for these characters needs an immediate 3k raise (Lupin Character Discussion and it’s long af too so sorry😅)

I was scrolling through the subreddit today for 60,861,775th time this week and I found u/Endway20 asking why I keep watching the series, and honestly all I could really think to answer with was my ADHD based hyper fixation, the characters, and music.

I answered and said those two things and I started thinking about something that made me write this post and honestly might make me write about it deeper somewhere else.

The 5 main characters have managed to evolve and keep their same spirit without compromising them or feeling inauthentic and they’ve managed to be enjoyed since 1977, and that’s such an insane feet, especially given the character archetypes they have.

I mean, think about it: Lupin used to be a self centered, womanizing thief who steals because he thinks it’s fun. He’s like the typical trickster kind of guy, and the thing is HE STILL IS ALL OF THAT, but now the writers will take traits of the character that don’t age well and ask “how can we modernize and make this work” instead of just taking the trait out.

In the past, Lupin would LITERALLY lose his mind around a pretty girl, but now he flirts childishly and safely around them, while appreciating them for more than just their looks. He still likes them a lot more than you probably should😂 so instead of getting rid of it or toning it down, they just expressed it in as healthy of a way as possible while keeping the essence of the character the same. Instead of stealing irreverently, he more blatantly takes from people that are involved in worse things, and in Part IV, a lot of his heist are just clever money making schemes that isn’t really robbing.

Jigen is a huge example. He’s a man’s man that likes guns, and has had a past with a misogynistic reputation. While I’m not going to name names, let’s just say…it would be VERY EASY to line someone like him up with certain belief systems. So how do they modernize this? They put all his women mistrust on Fujiko (which idk if it’s better but she makes it understandable😅), they’ve given him examples of loving and respecting women in the past (Goodbye Partner, Part IV a bit and Part VI heavily as three examples), and frames his gun liking as something he’s bonded with through tough times and more of an old friend that keeps him grounded in this crazy world. He’s masculine without being offensive, and I cannot understate how RARE, WELCOME, and INSANELY INCREDIBLE that is to have someone who is a man’s man and not…(insert one of the many examples you’re thinking of here😂)

Shoutouts to Goemon. A king 👑. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. It’d be really easy for modern riders to make him no personality in all strength, so they use that by showing how uncomfortable and naïve is about modern times, while still affecting people with his wisdom and refined values. Very good, very good.

Fujiko 😬😬👀😂😅…well…

…so…the thing is…has anyone noticed that since Part IV, she really doesn’t betray the crew? Back in the day, everyone knew it was coming, but now she treats them as begrudging found family. In Part IV, Lupin sipping over her in a bar like he usually is, and what does she make him do with it? She makes him take her out on a date. A DATE. Obviously in Part V, they end up restating the love they have and their dynamic, and every single entry after that (except for that one in The First), she is notably SO MUCH MORE kind to Lupin and less using of him. They barely flirt in Goodbye Partner, barely flirts in Prison of the Past despite having a WHOLE SEQUENCE with just them, and in Part VI I low-key feel like they’re a couple 🤷🏿‍♂️he’s taking her out, they’re eating together, she even tells him to “be careful” before a heist I mean who is this lady?! oh man she has a friend outside of the group now, which is impressive because it shows that she’s capable of relationships.

Come to think of it, she’s always focused the brunt of her emotional and financial manipulation on wealthy and super horny and corrupt businessmen to mooch off of them because she knows they won’t say no to her, and at least half of them are very aware that she’s just doing it for the money and benefits, which kind of makes me think about her non gang related betrayals under a new light when you consider that a lot of times everyone knows what she’s there four and they just give it to her anyway. Obviously, there are a lot of examples where she just straight up targets, an innocent person, but those are a lot less common now, and you can tell that she even is starting to care about innocent more.

Zenigata is super impressive because he’s a cop, and anyone who knows American sentiments with cops can tell you…*breaths deeply and moves on*… so it’s incredible that he’s really well wiped, because the series goes out of its way to show that he is one of the most morally upright people (except when he isn’t, but in those the gang is deliberately drawn in their original way as an homage art piece, and EVEN THEN Koike Zenigata is such a good person) and he genuinely cares about people in a way that is obvious to even normal citizens.

Even when all five of these guys were at the worst that they could be back in the day, I think the series was smart because ALL of them would usually get karma coming back against them, and the series forced them to interact all the time, despite having radically different views about each other, which forced them into a situation where they have to get along and tolerate.

I know that this post is long AF, and I pointed touches on things that get unnecessarily grass touchy, but I hope I got across that point that even with those elements, the characterization of these five can really shine even in modern times and still remain who they are fundamentally. At least, that’s what I think.

In honor of the GOAT, drop your favorite Yuji Ohno track rn 😢😔🔥✌️

Damn, this hurts…

As a music teacher that teaches kids drums using his songs this hits different man RIP😔✊🏼🫡

In honor of the man, everyone throw your favorite song/body of work from Yuji Ohno, the goat.

Mine is the album Isn’t it Lupintic (1999). Peekaboo is my favorite Ohno song it slaps so hard. But Remember is hitting different right now…

I don’t know who they’re going to get to replace him. To be honest, with all the thousands of tracks he has, they might just need to start reusing some songs from the vault… it’s just so iconic with the franchise man.

Regardless, rest in peace my guy🕊️

Sean Connery: Never Say Never Again (1983)

George Lazenby: The Master - TV Series (1984)

Roger Moore: Bond Series (up to 1985)

Timothy Dalton: Bond Series (1987-1989)

*On George Lazenby because he didn’t play Bond but a character in The Master that basically was Bond and purposely had a lot of Bond elements

Lowkey this makes me jealous of you 80’s kids. All 4 bonds were outside 😔😂

Warning I am having so much fun with this post don’t take it too seriously.*

Double posting in the subreddit before I return to lurking you know how I am😭

They saw what I did to Seiya, they saw what I did to Mamoru, and they still managed to piss me off after rewatching it for the first time first time in 13 years smh now I gotta flame some ass🔥😈😅

The second I saw the title “Death of the Sailor Scouts” I knew it was gonna be some bullshit I could just smell the fecal matter lol I remembered how the episode when from when I was a “wee lad” but I had to watch it again because I needed to know if the digital “trauma” I suffered was still there😅

I saw these DD girls and bro my whole soul started hitting the griddy out of anger bc I knew from childhood what they came to do🥱these girls look like the humanoid version of a group of mosquitoes. Rei should have just pulled out the bug repellent and got to work. Honestly, Rei gives me the vibes that she has some on her at all times (she probably sprays men with it😂).

They immediately got to hissing yapping “here in the D Point we have the ad…” no girl, here in the D point no one gives a fuck😒 starts flying around the gang doing the most just for Jupiter to vaporize two of those wasps, and smiled about it too. They were talking so much trash and Jupiter was basically like “Look me in my eyes, and prey to your new goddess” and sent them downstairs. (That’s not what she actually said but that’s what I heard😅) 🔥✌️🎉shout outs to big Jupiter but did she have to die? So she got trapped and immediately was like “time to blow myself up”?? Like hello? I get it, it’s the plot, but ayo…it’s also kind of interesting to think that using their strongest attacks kills them? Like I get being tired but I don’t know how I feel about that.

The scouts are built different because why is Usagi the only one crying, and Ami is a real one so I’ll forgive her pimp hand acting up 💯😅she needs to keep that thing in check but then Mr Plot-Sama makes Ami sacrifice herself so they can see through the illusions that really only Usagi was being fooled by 😒 (Usagi is a real one so we will not comment on the sheep level critical thinking skills😂) kind of sucks because it really wasn’t necessary but go ahead and cook or whatever. Ami is a real gangster 100% because those damn grasshoppers got in her face and was like “We’re going to roast you” and Ami was like “How rude...” which roughly translates to “whatever b*tch but these 10k boots I have on better not be scuffed when I peace out”. (I think that’s what the Japanese said there but idk😂)

Venus put the beam straight to that girls dome and I feel like we’re lucky the anime didn’t really animate what that should have looked like 🔥🔥💯I was actually surprised because I forgot how the 3. Venus basically gave us all a free glazed donut made of wasp skin so thanks buddy✌️

After Usagi still is processing her friends lowkey pointless deaths (very valid emotional reaction from her btw), “Ms. No Nonsense, Ms. ‘Power’s fire like my playlist’, Ms. ‘See these chic 1M heels?’, Ms. ‘Nails red like man tears’, 💅Ms. ‘Certified Diva plus 30 other careers’ (aka. Sailor Mars for the uninitiated) herself descends from her throne of blazing glory and sorts these two heathens out, and it’s so crazy because they tried to end her twice and the first one tried to snipe Sailor Moon and Mars CTRL + ALT + DELETED her shit, then the second one tried to end her and fly away and she was like “umm…I actually wasn’t f*cking finished.” and sent her to the lobby.

The DD girls are so trash😂three of the goons were enough for these damn bumblebees lmao throw some clothes on yall are garbage and I say that with as much respect for people who like these characters as possible 😂. Ami basically tossed up a free kill so she could watch from the bleachers because if she didn’t, yall would be looking at a smooth 5 - 3 kill score in the scouts favor. The fact that they did all this flying around and illusion masking and environmental manipulation just to not even win against girls who can’t even fly tickles my inner child in a way that heals the fear I had from watching them die as a kiddo😂

________________________________________________________

For those who want me to stop joking and give an actual intelligent reason on why I don’t like this episode, it basically boils down to the fact that the Sailor Scouts all died in one go. It just seemed like unnecessary drama and cheep emotional stakes so we could feel bad for Usagi. As a kid, it did its job, but as a grown ass adult😂 I feel like it’s just sad to see how quick they wrapped up the fight. They all happen so fast and I’m unconvincing ways that I couldn’t even really process it. I can’t imagine watching this week to week when it first aired.

I know this post is wild and funnily worded but I had way too much fun writing it😂I wanna hear whatever thought you got from this mental breakdown in words down below please and thank you for coming to my ted talk.

I’m gonna break this scene down later but seeing Fujiko with quiet look of nervousness, affection, and “oh my God, he really loves me” is so good man. I think this is the most real and vulnerable she’s ever been, and it’s no wonder why their dynamic got so intimate in Part VI.

This scene broke me but I’m at my security job so I have to grin and bear it😭

Very short run. Only two movies sadly, though I’m thinking people should have known him as the official Bond for a while until maybe ‘93 or something like that? Either way, were there any fans who liked him? Coming off of Roger, how did Timothy resonate with people? I know what the box office says, but I’m talking about from people’s perspective!
