Aftermarket head unit has constant hissing/static noise when playing music — OEM system was crystal clear. How do I fix this?

Hey all, looking for some help diagnosing an audio issue after an infotainment swap.

I’ve got a 2012 VW Jetta 2.5L. The original factory infotainment system sounded genuinely great — clean, clear audio with no issues. After installing an aftermarket head unit, I’m getting a continuous hiss/static sound in the background whenever music is playing. It’s there across all sources, not just one.

The OEM unit didn’t have this problem at all, so I’m guessing it’s something with how the new one was installed or wired.

Anyone dealt with this before? What’s the best way to actually track down where the hiss is coming from, and what’s usually the fix? Should I check the wiring behind the dash first, or is there a smarter diagnostic order?

Any help appreciated, thanks!

Steering wheel vibrates above 65 mph, fine at low speeds — worse on bumpy roads. What could it be?

Hey everyone, hoping someone can help me narrow this down before I take it in.

I’ve got a 2012 VW Jetta 2.5L and lately I’ve been noticing the steering wheel vibrates once I get above 65 mph. At lower speeds it’s totally fine, no issues at all.

The vibration gets noticeably worse when the road has even small bumps or imperfections in it.
Worth mentioning — I recently got new tires and a wheel alignment done, so I figured those would be ruled out, but the vibration is still there.

It’s not undriveable by any means, but it’s definitely noticeable and a little concerning. I’d rather get ahead of it before it turns into something bigger.

What could be causing this? Could it be a wheel balance issue (even with new tires)? Bent rim? Worn tie rods, control arm bushings, or wheel bearings? Something with the suspension? Anything else I should be looking at?

Any guidance on what to check first would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Airbag light on after aftermarket stereo install - 2012 Jetta 2.5L

Hey all, hoping someone here has run into this. I installed an aftermarket head unit in my 2012 Jetta 2.5L and now I’ve got the yellow airbag/SRS light on the dash. Seatbelt light is on too but that’s just because I wasn’t buckled when I snapped the pic.

For context, the install went smoothly otherwise, radio works fine, no other warnings. Just this one popped up after I buttoned everything back together.
Any help appreciated. Thanks!

Took my car (2012 VW Jetta 2.5L with just 66K miles) in for inspection and they found:

Oil seep from the lower oil pan (they mentioned catch and reuse oil)

Oil leak from the vacuum pump

DAP quoted me almost $2000 total for both repairs. 😭

I’ve attached the photos. I’m trying to understand how urgent this actually is. Can I safely drive it for a couple thousand more miles while monitoring oil levels, or is this something that needs to be fixed ASAP?

The quote feels really expensive, so I wanted to get opinions from people who’ve dealt with similar leaks before. Mainly worried about whether this is just a minor seep/leak or something that could turn into a bigger problem quickly.

Any advice appreciated.

Hey all,

My 2012 VW Jetta 2.5L has started throwing a low oil pressure warning, and it’s happened twice now.

First time:

Happened yesterday while driving up a slight slope (nothing crazy). The warning popped up randomly and disappeared in less than a second. After that, I went ahead and changed the engine oil and oil filter.

Second time (today):

I was just idling while waiting to fill gas, and the warning started coming on repeatedly. I turned off the engine, restarted it, and then it was gone again.
There are no visible oil leaks, and oil level seems fine.

I looked online and saw possible causes like:

Clogged oil pickup tube (sludge)

Failing oil pump

Faulty oil pressure sensor

Has anyone experienced this before?

How serious does this sound?

Is it safe to drive for now?

Roughly how much could this cost depending on the issue?

Would really appreciate any input 🙏

Hey everyone,

I recently bought a 2012 VW Jetta 2.5L, and I’m planning to upgrade the head unit to an RCD330 along with adding a reverse camera.

I had a couple of questions and would really appreciate some guidance:

Where’s the best place to buy a genuine RCD330 (reliable sellers/websites)?

Does the RCD330 come with a reverse camera included, or do I need to purchase that separately?

Any recommendations for a good compatible reverse camera setup?

Also, anything I should watch out for during installation (wiring, coding, etc.)?

I’m pretty new to this, so any advice or links would help a lot!

Thanks in advance 🙌
