Not leveling up fast enough

I’m level 38 and am on the death spiral quest for Jedi night but all the enemies are multiple levels ahead of me and I almost immediately die when facing a boss. Whenever I look up guides for what to do people are always at a higher level than I am. Do I have to do certain side quests or something? Or did I just miss something?
