We have started looking to buy an apartment, but we honestly have no idea how the bidding process works or how much we should bid.
For example, we are currently participating in a sealed-bid auction (I hope that is the correct term).
(The numbers have been lowered for anonymity purposes.)
The apartment was listed with an asking price of 450,000 CHF. We were already told that it will sell for a higher price and that it is a sealed-bid auction.
When we asked our bank about this apartment, the mortgage advisor played around with their tool to figure out the maximum financing amount and confirmed they would finance up to 480,000 CHF. This is the maximum they will allow for 80/20 financing without requiring additional funds from us (except the 20%). This limit is tied to the property itself, not our financial situation (we could actually afford a more expensive apartment).
2.So, what does this mean for the baseline?
Does it mean that most bidders will offer 480,000 CHF, or is 450,000 CHF still the starting point?
We ultimately decided to bid around 4.9% above the asking price. That is more than the asking price, but less than what the bank would finance without us having to put down more of our own money.

Which router would you buy for your parents-in-law?
I'm in the UniFi ecosystem myself, but I think it would be overkill. I have a few requirements:
Which router should I go with? The Flint 2 looks good spec-wise/price, but what about the longevity of support and security updates? They live in another country, so it really needs to be a "set it and forget it" solution.

So basically my unifi is complaining about package loss. but honestly the internet just works fine.
Ping to 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8 are quickly back (2-3ms) and no package loss when run from my wired pc.
My dashboard currently looks like this:

Again ping to 8.8.8.8 / 1.1.1.1 from my pc is fine (which is basically ping.ui.com).

Our current cleaner is leaving soon, so we are looking for a replacement.
We have a 3.5-room apartment in the Zurich Oberland. We are looking for someone to clean every 2 weeks for 3-4 hours.
Please do not suggest cleaning agencies like Batmaid, as we have had bad experiences with those types of companies.
If the cleaner is not independently registered as a company, we will of course register and pay them legally (AHV, etc.) using a third-party payroll service.

I’ll be visiting NY for 7 days soon, and it would be great to have a proper carrier with a real phone number instead of an eSIM with terrible routing and breakout points.
I have two questions about this:
- Can I get/activate the $10 promo from outside the US? The promo expires before I travel to the US (I have a Pixel 9 Pro with eSIM support.)
- Can I cancel it after just one month, or do I have to stay for the entire promo duration (3 months)?
