Need travel router for work for blink camera

Hello!

I have to travel for work and am brining my puppy. I'll have him in a crate for part of the day, but I want to bring my blink camera so I can watch him. Does anyone know if this will work? I've read online that I need a portable router. Does anyone have any tips or advice? Thanks!!

Tailscale on slower GL.iNet devices + employee wifi

I was a little frustrated when I upgraded an older/slower E750V2 router and found it had removed Tailscale support from the official packages (and as I was away from home, got kicked off the router)

So digging into it, I found out they didn't want to support it because of the slow specs. Not content with this, and with the help of some AI, I whipped up working packages (and a few extra features) in an open source package to get it working on this and other devices. Take a look here

Biggest win here is the toggle for the automatic firewall setup, so you can easily give devices behind the router access to Tailscale services. This was getting quite tedious with every new device we setup.

Further to this, we often send off routers to employees that work remotely, but the biggest hassle is we don't want the employee to have access to Tailscale secrets, and we also don't want them to have root access on the device. So what did we do? Another plugin of course

You can set a password, or just give access to anyone with the wifi details access to get on foreign networks. Great for debugging remote problems (and yet more Tailscale solutions!)

Open to feedback and suggestions

Edit: Added Mullvad support as a separate package

Need advice on VPN router setup for accessing home Canadian IP while travelling

Hi everyone,
I’m trying to set up a VPN/router solution so that when I travel internationally, all my devices (laptop, phone, etc.) can connect through my home internet in Saskatchewan and appear as if they’re browsing from Canada.
Current setup:
Home internet provider: SaskTel
Home router/modem: ARRIS NVG448BQ
Travel router I already have: GL.iNet GL-MT3000 (Beryl AX)
Goal:
When travelling (e.g. India), connect laptop/devices to the GL.iNet router
Route all traffic through my home network in Canada
Get Canadian residential IP instead of using commercial VPN IPs
Questions:
Does SaskTel offer any built-in VPN/static IP service for this use case?
Has anyone successfully done this with SaskTel internet?
Can I keep the ARRIS router and add a second GL.iNet router (Brume/Flint) behind it for WireGuard?
Will I need a static IP, or is Dynamic DNS enough?
I’m considering either:
Keeping SaskTel ARRIS + adding GL.iNet router as VPN server
OR
Replacing part of the setup with a GL.iNet Flint/Brume device.
Would appreciate advice from anyone who has done a similar setup, especially with SaskTel. Thanks!

Best WiFi extender option to work with Flint 3?

Hi all,

Currently have a Flint 3 and want to extend the WiFi coverage to reach the back of my garden.

No option to run ethernet so need something that I can put in an extender/repeater mode that will make up the WiFi signal between the Flint 3 and the back of my garden.

Want to connect Sonos to this extension and mobiles etc

What is the best value option to achieve this?

We have a 2gbps connection but don't need super fast speeds in the garden, just enough for multiple phones to connect and a Sonos Move.

Thanks for your help

Beryl not connecting to wifi

I leave in a day and my gl mt3000(beryl) keeps giving me this message “Connection failed, will retry later…

Could not find the network, please check the SSID and security type you entered.

While attempting to reconnect, your router will periodically scan for Wi-Fi networks, and your guest Wi-Fi network will be temporarily unavailable during this scan.” when i try to connect to my home wifi or hotspot. i’ve tried factory resetting it and been troubleshooting for a day. help plz! would it help to just reset everything?

Flint 2 Nas : Error " The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -8062)." on MacOS 26 when trying to copy folders with files onto NAS

It works perfectly fine if it's just the files but copying folders over often but not always gives this error which is extremely annoying. Does anyone know how to fix this? Claude gave some help but none of it worked.

Beryl 7 pocket-build

Hey all!

Just wanted to share a (simple) build i recently completed with a beryl 7 and Anker Zolo power bank to have an always-on beryl 7 that stays with me throughout the day whether I'm using my phone as a USB tether, WiFi-as-WAN, or plain-old ethernet...

Was looking at a mudi 7 for the built-in battery, but for my use case, I didn't need the cellular modem nor the $400+ price tag...

Its simple, and semi-pocketable (maybe a coat/jacket pocket, not jeans...)

Parts List:

  1. velcro dots ($
  2. UGREEN Right Angle USB-C Adapters ($

Known issues:

  • Due to the nature of USB-C power banks, the router briefly power cycles when plugging in or unplugging a power supply from the power bank...

Planning to follow up with info such as battery life and power draw...
Edit: I tested the battery drainage to get an idea, and I started at 100% at 10:30 and made it 8 hours and 10 minutes before reaching 10% charge at 18:40 (6:40)…

Thanks for taking the time to check it out!

Mudi 7 worth it?

My Netgear m1 has finally died and my original mudi is not keeping up with demands anymore. Mostly due to the cat4 modem. Is the mudi 7 worth the $400 price tag? Never snagged it during the pre order or in the last sale on Amazon. Was curious if everyone's opinion.

Thank you!

New flint 2 firmware

Buying a new flint 2 should I upgrade the firmware if I’m using it as a basic home router with a beryl 7 travel router? Or will the whatever it comes with be good enough for what I’m using it for? Tia

Connecting beryl 7 to phone hotspot

Hello,

I am trying to connect my Beryl 7 to my phone hotspot. It seems ok, but the Internet connection never works. I tried many different setups and searched everywhere, but I couldn't find a solution. Do I need to tether it? I didn't test it yet because of the old USB connection (not c).

Any thoughts?

Thank you

iPhone 12 gets better speeds than the Mudi 7…

Is this normal? I thought the Mudi 7 was supposed to be blazing fast? A 5-6 year old iPhone gets better and more stable speeds than this thing… the connection also drops, a lot. It’s updated to 4.8.5. It arrived with 4.0 and with that firmware, cellular didn’t work at all. I’m not impressed with this thing at all.

Wanted to show my Beryl AX Set Up

Full Set-Up for anyone curious:

‎Router: GL.iNet Beryl AX (obviously)

‎Modem: ZTE F50 Pro

‎Power: UGREEN PB312 20,000mAh

‎Cabling: Sony USB-A → USB-C (0.25 m)

‎UGREEN USB-A → USB-C (0.5 m)

‎Been using this setup for about 3 months now, mostly in and out of buildings and its pretty decent.

‎For the pics above, The F50 Pro acts as the internet source here which is then tethered via usb to the Beryl AX. I have QoS/SQM installed here too and its performed really well based on my tests. Once had 15 people connect to it and it handled the traffic nicely.

Beastly router for its price.

Does Brume 2 Have Tailscale?

Would anyone mind confirming for me if Brume 2 has tailscale? I want a tiny router to enable me to view shop cam remotely (without relying on the manufacturer's P2P server). Just Raid Owl's 3yr video and Tailscale appears nowhere in the GUI but search results say it supports tailscale. TIA.

Mudi 7 is a great travel router, as long as you're not using cellular overseas

Got my Mudi 7 when it first launched, and being in the US, got the US version to use with US carriers. It's worked great, but recently had a work trip come up to parts of Asia so I figured it'd be an interesting experiment to bring it along.

For background, when I go on these trips, I used to have the Beryl AX, and last year, upgraded to the Slate 7. For this trip, I packed the Mudi 7 and Slate 7.

Now that my trip is almost wrapped up, figured I'd share my thoughts:

THE GOOD

Mudi 7 is now my go to travel router, but not for reasons you'd think.

  • Built-in battery. This was a gamechanger for me because it allowed me to use one less charger. I have a travel charger with 3 USB-C and 1 USB-A port, that I use to charge my devices, and with the Mudi 7, I can also power it with this adapter, saving me from having to bring another one. With other travel routers, like the Beryl AX and Slate 7, I have to use a dedicated power adapter because when I unplug a device from the travel adapter, it has to re-calculate the wattage to redistribute, so there's a brief cut in power to all devices. Not an issue for laptops, tablets, and phones, but is for a travel charger
  • Connect directly to laptop via USB-C. I use a MacBook and in the past, to have a wired connection, I'd have to bring a dongle and ethernet cable to connect to the travel router. With the Mudi 7, I can connect it directly to my laptop via a USB-C (3.0) cable and have a connection. I already carry USB-C cables for charging, so this lets me remove 1 other item.
  • Screen Control. Like the Slate 7, the Mudi 7 has a screen for easy config and status. Unlike my Slate 7 where I need to scroll through screens, I can see all the important information at a glance on my Mudi 7, like WiFi, mode, VPN. On the Slate 7, I'd need to scroll from screen to screen for the information.
  • Faster VPN Speeds. Among the 3 travel routers I own, this provided me with the fastest VPN speeds, which made using it an easy choice.

THE BAD

  • Don't rely on using the Mudi 7 for cellular connectivity overseas. You might get lucky and the country you're visiting will have bands that your version supports, but if you're traveling across continents, that's probably unlikely.
  • What to do with the other travel routers. Was not expecting the Mudi 7 to become my default travel router. Now I'll have to sell either the Slate 7 or Beryl AX. Previously, my Slate 7 was primary and Beryl AX was secondary, but won't be needing so many anymore.

OTHER THOUGHTS

  • Get a compact case for the Mudi 7. I got a cheap one from Amazon, and don't use the one that came with the device. This made carrying it so much easier.
  • USB 2.0 vs. USB 3.0. My VPN speeds were closer to 300Mbps, and while a USB-C 2.0 cable would have sufficed, I found using a 3.0 cable getting me closer to max throughput

Reset GL-iNet 1200 router trouble

I forgot my password to log into my travel router, and I thought I could just reset it. I unplugged the etherent and power to the router. I then held down the reset button and plugged the power in while holding the reset button down. Within a few seconds, the light started flashing. I set my computer to use 192.168.255.1/24 with gateway of 192.168.8.1 per GLiNet's website. I have my computer hooked to LAN port. I then opened FireFox and entered in 192.168.8.1, and it will not open. I cannot ping 192.168.8.1 either. I tried setting my computer to 192.168.2.1, and that didn't work either. I know the cable is good, because I can access the internet when hooked to a different router. I did try resetting with the mode button in both positions.

I have reset it the router several months ago, and I didn't have any problems then. I've watched different videos, but the ones I found were pretty vague when trying to reset.

Any idea what I am doing wrong? I'm sure it's Stupid simple, I just cannot see it.

Thanks in advance.....
