Upgraded from a 2018 Jeep Compass that was having constant maintenance issues.
Beyond stoked for this.
I was traveling for the 4th of July weekend when the engine on my 2018 Jeep Compass (2.4-liter four-cylinder / 137000 miles) overheated.
I was driving on the interstate and my car‘s temperature gauge was reading just fine until I pulled off the highway to get gas when the temperature gauge immediately spiked to the max reading once I came to a stop.
I just had my coolant swapped and my engine serviced two weeks ago and have been driving in town and on the highway without any issues until yesterday.
I had my car towed back home, and after letting my car sit for a couple hours, I popped the hood and noticed the coolant was extremely low so I filled it back up and let it sit for the night.
This morning, I came back to it and noticed my coolant was low again however I have been unable to confirm if there are any signs of a leak, but it is very likely at this point there could be a pinhole leak somewhere.
I filled my coolant back up this morning and let my car run for about 20 minutes while parked with the heat on to get coolant to the engine while I intermittently hit the gas pedal.
During this entire process, however, my temperature gauge remained at the normal level and not once did it spike like it did yesterday.
I’ve been out with my car for the last couple hours and my coolant level seems to be maintaining with no signs of a leak.
My next thought is the line wasn’t properly burped when I had my coolant swapped 2 weeks ago.
There is no white smoke and there isn’t a sweet smell coming from the car.
There is a little bit of gurgling from my coolant reservoir on the side, where the hose is, but not on the opposite side of it.
All of the auto shops by me are closed for the weekend due to the holiday.
For the time being, I am holding off on driving my car until I can take it back in, however I’m trying to figure out why my engine overheated in the first place and is seemingly back to normal.
Any help or advice would be appreciated!
