Im desperate and dont know what to do anymore.

Hi everyone, I wanted to give you a quick update.

To briefly explain my issue: I had a hormonal IUD for six years. A little over six months ago, I had a new one inserted.

About a year after I first started using the hormonal IUD as contraception, my discharge became very, very acidic in taste, very thick and pasty, and the smell became metallic, stale, and just really unpleasant. Since then, I’ve also noticed a strange phenomenon: if there are any onion residues from cutting onions on my fingers or my boyfriend’s fingers, even if it was two days ago and the fingers don’t smell like onions anymore, as soon as they come into contact with my discharge, the hands start smelling strongly of onions again. This is really disturbing during sex. If you Want to know more read my old Posts.

In general, all of this has made me lose a lot of confidence. I often feel humiliated and ashamed, and it has been really awful.

Doctors don’t want to help me. They all just say everything is fine, but I know that something is not right. You can read my more detailed story in my older posts.

Following your advice, I did a vaginal microbiome test. The result showed that I have 95% lactobacilli. I have now taken the step of having my hormonal IUD removed. It is a bit difficult from a contraception perspective, but it felt like the last bit of hope I was holding onto.

It has now been 13 days since the IUD was removed. Two days after the removal, I had bleeding for three days, and after that my vaginal fluid was actually more moist and normal again, not as unpleasant. Unfortunately, that only lasted for six days.

My theory is that because of the IUD, and because I no longer had periods, the lactobacilli may have become too dominant, since the monthly pH increase from menstruation was missing. That’s just my theory.

While I still had the IUD, I also inserted baking soda capsules several times. They only helped briefly. Now I’m hoping that regular bleeding might improve things again.

However, because I’m still struggling with dryness two weeks after having the IUD removed, and my discharge is unfortunately still pasty, thick, and white, I’ve started using baking soda again. This time I’m using a different method that works much better for me than sitz baths, baking soda rinses, or baking soda capsules.

It is still a baking soda rinse, but instead of mixing baking soda with water, I mix it with NaCl, meaning saline solution, and baking soda. This does not dry out my mucous membranes at all. It actually makes everything feel nicely moist, and what I also like about it is that the thick discharge gets rinsed out. That is something that doesn’t happen when using baking soda capsules.

I‘m so disaponted. the Bad smell the disgusting taste and this weird Onion thing is still there. I dont know what to do anymore

I really hope that things will improve over the next few months now that the IUD is out.

Has anyone had similar experiences? Please let me know.
