New to teaching Geometry and to teaching honors math
I'm currently finishing my 36th year of teaching. I have taught a lot of middle school math (the first 15 years of my career), a lot of Algebra 1, a lot of Algebra 2, and a lot of PreCalc. All of the courses I have ever taught were "on level." I have actively sought out on-level courses, because my heart is for those on-level kiddos.
We just got our teaching assignments for next year and I have been assigned to Honors Geometry. I have a degree in mathematics, so of course, I took a lot of geometry-related courses in college ... IN THE 1980's.
Although I would love to just teach nothing but PreCalc until I retire, I also understand my admin's reasoning and am trying to be a good sport. I also want to do a good job with these kids who might go on to higher level maths and sciences in the career spaces, so I want to find a way to inspire them.
I want to spend a good chunk of the summer digging into more than just the curriculum scope and sequence, but also re-learning the more inspirational aspects of mathematics as an academic field and Geometry in particular.
Do you have any recommendations for reading or internet explorations to inspire me to inspire them or any other ideas for me to zoom out and look at the bigger picture of teaching Geometry, Geometry Honors, or honors mathematics in general? (My students will mostly be 9th grade students - 14-years-old.)
Thank you for any suggestions!
