Seeking guidance on Neelkanth Aghorastra Stotram — practice, tradition and precautions

Recently, I came across a video by Rajshri Nandi discussing the Neelkanth Aghorastra Stotram/Mantra, and since then I've become quite interested in understanding it properly.

What caught my attention is that, after hearing the stotram, I felt a rather strong and somewhat unusual inclination to listen to and recite it. I don't necessarily mean this in a supernatural sense. It may simply be that something about the sound, the association with Lord Shiva, or the nature of the stotram resonated with me. I'm deliberately trying not to interpret the feeling as a "sign" or assume that something spiritual is happening to me.

Since yesterday, I have recited/listened to it several times, but before continuing regularly, I wanted to understand the tradition and practice surrounding it more responsibly.

I'd really appreciate guidance from people who have genuine knowledge or experience with this particular stotram, especially regarding the following:

  1. What exactly is the Neelkanth Aghorastra Stotram? What is its traditional origin, purpose, and place within Shaiva/Tantric practice?
  2. Is there a distinction between simply reciting/listening to the stotram with devotion and undertaking a formal "sadhana" of it? I understand that some versions contain viniyoga, nyasa, bija mantras and other elements. Are these necessary for ordinary devotional recitation, or are they specifically associated with formal practice?
  3. Does someone need diksha or guidance from a guru to recite it? I'm particularly interested in understanding the traditional view rather than just modern internet claims.
  4. What are the actual precautions? I've come across descriptions suggesting that Aghorastra-related practices are considered powerful or intense. If someone recites the stotram incorrectly — for example, pronunciation, number of repetitions, procedure, intention, etc. — is there traditionally believed to be any consequence? Or is the idea that "something bad will happen if you make a mistake" largely an exaggeration?
  5. How should a beginner approach it, if at all? If someone simply feels drawn toward the stotram and wants to approach it respectfully, would it be better to begin with listening/reading it devotionally rather than immediately attempting a prescribed japa or sadhana?
  6. Are there specific rules regarding time, place, diet, purity, direction, mala, number of repetitions, etc.? If those rules apply only to formal sadhana rather than ordinary recitation, I'd appreciate clarification on that distinction as well.
  7. What should one realistically expect from the practice? I'm especially interested in separating traditional religious beliefs about its benefits from claims that may have developed through modern social media or popular spiritual content.

I'm asking because I don't want to approach the practice either with unnecessary fear or with blind enthusiasm.

The fact that I've felt naturally interested in this stotram is simply something I've noticed about myself. I'm not assuming that it means I've been "called" to it, that I'm spiritually advanced, or that there is some supernatural reason behind it. I would rather understand the tradition first and then decide whether and how to practice it.

So if anyone here has genuine knowledge of Shaiva, Aghora, or mantra-shastra traditions, I'd really appreciate a detailed and grounded explanation of the Neelkanth Aghorastra Stotram and how a beginner should approach it.

Please feel free to correct me if I'm misunderstanding the nature of the stotram or using the terminology incorrectly.

Experiences in mantra sadhana

Can someone guide me through what are the experiences with mantra japa, because from a lot of time I am experiencing a lot of distraction, lot of imagination runs in my mind and although like in every puja I take sankalp that I will only focus on the mantra but still I feel with every puja or japa i am becoming worse in this and my mind just wanders while I am chanting, I am doing Bhairav nam japa from quite a few timw but not very much I am not under any guidance, I am looking forward to guidance so how can I improve it, also sometimes from 10 15 days Or so I am facing this problem, I am also facing a problem that if someone worship in front of me I feel a lot of rage as well. What to do?, any guidance is appreciated to solve this issue. PS I also feel pull in my left side of face.
