I work for a community development nonprofit as a grant writer. One of the organization's funders is Wells Fargo. (Pause for violent wretching). In 2024 WF granted the organization $150K, in 2025, $75K. This year, they're promising to dig deep into their evil little pockets for $35K. I just submitted the grant for it.
The org got an email yesterday from the WF rep saying that they needed to discuss something about the application with us. I was thinking about what I must have fucked up with the financials or some other substantive shit. Turns out they were concerned about the racial demographics %.
The nonprofit works in a community whose residents are primarily Black. So the % of people in the org's rental housing is 100% Black. We were informed that "in this political climate" the application had been flagged for that. So, to get the generous $35K we're going to have to submit a statement that says that the org serves people of all racial demographic categories. Never had to do this before. Never a problem before.
The Wells Fargo episode was one of the most mind-boggling, infuriating episodes of The Dollop I've listened to. WF continues to add to its already stellar reputation.
This brilliant, chaotic trifecta was exactly what I needed.
Just posted this in Weird Little Guys too, because the crossover is evident. Anyway, found out about it from an article in the NYT: https://www.freedomcon26.com/
Friend of the pod, Chris Crofton had another painfully funny episode of Cold Brew Got Me Like and concluded it by talking about the shit that is the TN legislature. Thought I'd share the clip he played of Rep. Justin Pearson's speech: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tch3OWyOe8E

International Workers’ Day started right here in Chicago, by workers who were fighting for the labor rights many take for granted today. But on May Day, we remember the Haymarket martyrs and we continue their legacy of struggle!
